I'm a new member as of June. :cool1:

I got my brochure yesterday for the DVC member cruise. I know they start selling on Dec 9th but I have no clue of how much. I wouldn't be using points.

What was the past amounts for say 5A verandah for 2? Or any price would be helpful.

5A = $1,505 pp:crazy2:

it's difficult for me to reconcile paying over $1,000 for an 11C even though it's our vacation week next year.

Aww geez! I knew it was more expensive than a regular cruise, but I'm paying about that price for a 7 night cruise.

Okay. Opinions wanted...Are the member cruises worth the extra funds??

If you want to do one, try it. As a couple, we've been on the 3 night MC in2005 and it was a lot of fun. I never thought I would do one in January, but DSis, DCuz and I thought it would be worth doing and so I'm on the one in January, and really looking foward to it. If it's too chilly to swim on CC, we'll ride bikes, something we wouldn't do if it were swimming weather.

I think the experience of being on the boat with fellow DVCers was special. Everyone talked about their home resorts, what they do at WDW since they go so often, it was friendlier than a normal cruise.

I don't appreciate all of the gifts, but the ones I like make up for it. The DVC huge bath sized towels are favorites of mine, and the Ducky Williams prints of M&M with the Wonder in the background are both framed and always make me smile!

Bummer for us. We booked this cruise back in May and now am being bumped. The cost to upgrade to the member cruise is almost double.

Will probably rebook to the next week. It is hard to justify the additional cost.

why does it cost so much more than a regular cruise ? if I pay cash then I am looking at
$3,731 for the cheapest room (which chances are that I won't get it.). I could book the same cruise for $2,400 and a 7 night cruise for $4,300. Why should I do the member cruise for that price ?

I wonder if us passengers that were on the Dream or Fantasy that encountered Sandy, can use there 25% discount off this? Not that we would, just curious.

OMG were you on that nightmare of a cruise??!!:grouphug: It may have been a great cruise, but the last night sounded horrendous.

We were on the Dream- besides no ports, 65 mph constant winds, 30' swells and no sun: it was great- lol! The last night was absolutely horrible, almost falling out of bed, dishes falling in Cabanas, people vomiting in the hallways-but we made the best of it. Just curious about using our discount.

When the price of a cruise doubles for a DVC member cruise I just cant justify the extra cash or points?! Are the gifts that great? Anything different besides destinations. Shouldn't we get a discount if we use points?

The other issue i have with DVC, since I actually considered going until I looked at the price and points chart for this cruise: More DVC discounts at DLR than WDW. Everywhere i turned cashiers were asking if i had AAA, AP or was a DVC member. Almost everywhere at DLR i received a discount on food. Why is that, because there is only 1 DVC resort at DLR and the rest at WDW?

Because of all those "gifts" left on your bed each night....HELLLLO!!!!..... nothing is free.

Because Disney is in the business of making money.

:earsboy: Bill

And in the market of "brainwashing"..........thinking you are getting something for free.

DW and I went on 4 different cruises in sept. 07,08,09 & 2010 either just before or just after the M-cruise and we saved compared to the M-cruise room cat on average 400.00 to 700.00$ for the same cat each time.

We have been DVC Members since 2007 and are finally considering doing the SS Member Cruise. We love DCL and have been on several Disney (and non-Disney - GASP) cruises.

For those who have done the SS Member Cruise in the past - can you share specifically what kinds of "gifts" they give out? Pics?

Obviously DCL is more expensive and other lines, but we feel it's worth the extra cost for the quality of the ship, the crew, the shows and Castaway.

The question is - the is additional cost of the SS Member Cruise worth the difference?

Thanks

I'd be interested in the value of the gifts as well. As I remember it, we booked a Cat 5 room on a 4 night cruise for roughly $900 pp. At $1500 pp for the equivalent room on the Member Cruise I would really expect a whole bunch of expensive gifts!

Hollywood Glitter's getting ready, she began a Cruise Meet Thread!

Really, it's a matter of experience. To some it's worth it to others it is not. My portion of a 7 night Carnival Cruise last January with a balcony was the same price as my cost for this 3 night cruise, which is also with a balcony. DSis, DCuz were with me for that cruise as well, and we had a great time. We all thought we would try this, they are not DVC members, they are my guests.

We got the flyer as well and are thinking about it. We went on a Disney cruise in January, I loved it and can't wait to get back. I really want a double dip at Castaway Cay and this looks like the best way to get it. The Magic is doing a double dip next fall, but they don't have an Aquaduck! Sure it's more expensive, but it's probably cheaper than a back to back if you want to double dip.

How many rooms can a member book? [update: I found the info that it says you can book 2 rooms per membership id] If friends or family wanted to come with us, could we book them a room?

How much is the deposit?

Also noticed this bit in the announcement:
"Memberships not purchased directly from Disney Vacation Development, Inc. on or after March 21, 2011 will not have access to this Member Cruise."

Of those two rooms you can book, one can be for non-members. Payment is due in full at the time of booking.

hope you're able to switch your plans

on the cruise boards many weren't thrilled with the big jump in 2013 rates. Now they're switching some itineraries for next fall too. If they're having trouble filling the ships, perhaps they'll open up more member cruises since there seems to be lots of interest.

Aside from the gifts (which appear to be the type that are difficult to assign an intristic value) and the member camaraderie; imo there is a certain cache to booking the cruise that appeals to me and i'm sure many others...still tempted.;)
