2013 Destash- this is the year!

Well I got another box of books packed and we have an offer accepted on a new house but now we need them to fix a couple things so we can close on it. But I'm going to think positive thoughts and move forward with all the packing.

I have another pile of stuff for goodwill and I have to sort through the kids clothes to see what winter clothes we can just get rid of and what we'll want to keep. Plus I need to go through boots. I got lucky this year and they wore last years boots. I don't think we need boots in Florida so everything but the rain boots can go.

I have a TON of schoolwork this weekend and 3 presentations on mon and tues so of course I'm highly motivated to do anything but schoolwork. Lol

Good Luck on the House!!!! pixiedust:

Worked on ever growing pile on my side of the bed. I did a little bit last week but didn't make much progress. I finally took the stuff I did sort for different rooms and put them in said rooms. Now I need to put it all away but at least it's in the correct part of the house.
My pile is now at least 2/3 smaller than it was. I think I can polish it off tomorrow.
I filled a bag for paper recycling, filled a trash bag and filled a small hamper for good will.

Tomorrows jobs are:
an hour in the front yard raking (did the back last week)
finishing my side of the bed
tackling DH's side of the bed
putting shelves up in the boys room
running through the toy bins in the boys room
putting away all the stuff in the various rooms that I gathered from my room
starting to organize the linen closet
finish laundry
switch out winter sheets for summer sheets
wash and put away the winter sheets

Lots to do but if I can keep everyone on task we just might get it all done.
We also have vacation this week so I'm going to get a lot done and DH is taking the following week off so we can get some home improvement projects done.

Good luck with your list today!

Does anyone have a link to a good housecleaning list? I'm stuck doing schoolwork this entire week but once next Monday hits, I really will just be waiting for one last final exam to open up so I need to get on my housecleaning mission before my parents arrive to stay with the kids for a couple days.

The house isn't filthy (well dd15's bathroom is terrifying) but it has been rather neglected this semester and my mom is a clean freak so gotta step up my game. I just need some sort of checklist to get myself in order.

Congrats on the house! LOL on the motivation. Mine comes in when I'm avoiding other things too. Good luck getting everything done!

Wow, great list! I bet you will feel so great when all those things are finished!

I took an entire big car load full of kids stuff to a consignment sale today. Pretty sure everything we would take back will sell. It was so much stuff, plus I hope to make some money.

We also met with a realtor who told us what to change for putting the house on the market. She sad we need to declutter more, which was a little discouraging since I've already gotten rid of so much stuff. What we have left we basically need. But there is still a lot on the surfaces, so we have to clean those off. We don't have an attic or much built in storage, so our closets are pretty full. We have just outgrown the house. :( Anyway, she wants us to be on the market in two weeks. Yikes! I hope we can do this with three kids... I'm going to start by packing up winter stuff and go from there.

Hang in there! Just think that hopefully all this work upfront will lead to less time on the market since the house will look extra great when you are finished.

I caught DD in a good moment so we went through most of her closet yesterday. Now I need to deal with the piles we created that she doesn't need! There is one more shelf and part of a unit we still need to tackle. Then we will move toys from under her bed to the basement and her room will be done! Of course, this does nothing towards getting ready for BIL's visit but it needed to be done.

During spring break I got to work on my closet. The back end of it still needs work but the front end is useable.I have been working on drawers in my bedroom. This morning I tackled the 3 sock drawers and one bag of socks. I threw out all the miss matched socks that I had.

Still going through things here. I went through a few office drawers today. Still so much more to do, but making progress for sure! I'm up to 1571 things gone so far this year!

Isn't it nice to clear out those darn socks! Good work on your progress!

Wow, that is quite a pile! Fun to total them up so you can really know your progress!

I went through DD"s clothes & sorted them into donate/sell piles. Also went through the upstairs bookcase and pulled a bunch to take to the basement. DS & I found a small pile to donate to his school. There is a dance on Friday and they get a discounted ticket if they bring a book to donate. I hope to get through the other bookcases later this week and see what else can go.

This weekend wasn't too bad as far as decluttering goes. I went through 4 tubs of summer clothes and a tub and a half of those clothes are getting donated.

Then I pulled out all of the Halloween Costumes in the master bedroom closet and put them into the tub where they belonged up in the attic. Now I'm starting to feel like I have some space in that closet.
I am not a fan of going up there which is why they've been hanging out in my closet.

So I've made some more progress this weekend.

I got the garge done yesterday and plan to work on one of the crawl spaces in our basement this week.

I'm joining in. We are moving - again. This is our 4th move in 7 years. We frequently move for DH's job. We moved from a 3-BR house to a 3-BR apartment first. It was just the two of us, but we needed the 3-BR apartment to house all our stuff. :sad2:

Our next move, I thought we were doing great by getting a 2-BR apartment, but I just found more ways to cram the crap!

We are in our third home - a 3-BR house with a full unfinished basement - yikes!!! You should see the boxes down there. They haven't even been opened in the year we've lived here. :scared1:

It is just ridiculous that we keep paying to house "stuff". I actually disgust myself. DH and I have been tackling the basement and have thrown 8 boxes of trash away, donated a few things, and garage sale piled the rest. We've sold our excess furniture and have some things on craigslist/ebay. We've already made $200 with people coming for more later this week. I am starting to ENJOY this feeling.

I agree with someone above who said they have a weird emotional attachment to their stuff. My husband has laughed at me, but now that I'm beyond the hurdle, I want to keep going. I need to be free of my things.

This is hopefully our last move for his job for a while, so technically I am not saving the stress for future moves, but we just don't need a bunch of this, and I'm happy to be freeing myself. Thanks for letting me join!

I destashed a huge pile of fallen limbs by the big maple tree today and about 40 huge wheelbarrow loads of leaves, poison ivy, and saplings. Not inside stuff but reclaiming the yard has helped me stay motivated on reclaiming the house.

Didn't get much stuff done from yesterdays list because DH decided to spend the day at Lowes. UGH!!
But the boys handled the sheets and did 3 more loads of laundry today while I finished my side of the bed. And I squared away DD's room and she put all her American Girl clothes away.

Well, it feels like forever, but I finally made it into the basement. Is the rest of the house tidy, ummmm no but I would never get anywhere if I waited to finish the whole upstairs.
Got rid of one BIG black garbage bag of kids clothes with more to go. All the other clothes are neatly tucked away in totes waiting for siblings to grow into them. So pretty, now only 3/4 more basement to attack! Also have gotten rid of 2 more garbage bags of garbage. Have given up on a running count, just happy to get rid of "stuff".

Did another big goodwill drop today, up to 1686 things out of my house this year!

Several days ago now, I tossed 3 shoe boxes, dryer lint and toilet paper rolls. (Was gonna make fire starters)

Just deleted about 3,000 texts! :faint:
Working on deleting a little over 500 emails! :surfweb:

I spent a decent amount of time on Sunday cleaning and de-cluttering. I finished cleaning out both of the linen closets and now only have the bare necessities that we need until we move. I bagged up the blankets and towels that were in good condition, and I'll drop those off at the vet the next time we have an appointment there, since they use the old towels and blankets in the kennel part of the office. I also finished clearing out the coat closet. I had boxed up our coats, scarves, winter hats, etc a few weeks ago, but I still had a few things stored in the closet, so I got those items out. Now, all I have in that closet is a sweatshirt for each of us and the vacuum cleaner. It looks so empty, but I guess that's the point :woohoo:

I went through DSs room again, and got rid of a few more stuffed animals and managed to find a few more junk toys to get rid of. It wasn't much, as he was home and hates to get rid of things, but I'll go through his room more extensively tomorrow while he's at school and see what else I can sneak out ;) And lastly, I went through the arts and craft items again. I held on to a lot of items, simply because I wasn't sure how many more projects DS was going to have at school and what we may still need. It's getting towards the end of the school year, so it's unlikely he's going to have a run on projects, so I started tossing half-opened bottles of paint, scraps of paper, etc. I still left enough stuff so that if he does get assigned one more project we can pull something together with what we have, but I heavily decluttered and cut back on what we had in the arts and crafts bins.

Tomorrow is both DH and my day off, so we have lots to do. We have to get ready for the garage sale this weekend and go through DSs room again.
