There are so many of us going at the same time. I just came back home from work and our MBs were at front door. I got orange for me and blue for DH and red for DS.

DS said that we are going to Disney this months as soon as he woke up this morning. :thumbsup2

We've had stressful few months including death, sickness, etc with family and now that everything has settled down (hopefully), we cannot wait for our vacation. We really need one at this point. pixiedust:

Yay for October and Disney!! Hope you have a great time!!

Thanks Teena - from your experience, would this be considered a safe route to go (do packages ever go missing at the convention center)? Has anybody else ever shipped expensive packages to the Yacht Club like this?

Not really sure when I could sneak off to the convention center, otherwise I'm not sure of my room assignment yet, nor if they'll leave the package in the hallway or inside the room. Or is it too much to ask for concierge to pick up the package for me and keep it safe until the big day?

We are at YC! Our flight landed around 11, and by 12:30 we were in our room. Our garden grocer order was waiting, and our bags were up in the room by 1:30 (just as we were heading out to SAB).

Our room is around the corner from the elevator...about two rooms down. It's supposed to be garden view, but we can see water and the windmill! Very nice, huge room and lively view...so excited to be here!

Hi all, first time poster! Due to a contest at work, I have the pleasure of being escorted all the way from BC to WDW (airfare, hotel and some expenses paid!) on Mon Oct 14 to Fri Oct 18 and staying at the Club Level of the Yacht Club!

I'll be going with my girlfriend, and was hoping to take the opportunity propose to her while we're there (in the privacy of our room). I was wondering if it was possible to get the engagement ring shipped direct to the resort and have it held by the concierge desk until at least the Tuesday (along with some other special requests)? It'd save me a couple hundred bucks in taxes plus give me a few more days since I'm not sure if I could get the ring shipped to Canada before we leave on the 11th (staying offsite until Monday)

Should I email IPO or call the hotel? It doesn't seem like the IPO desk is directly connected to the hotel staff? Been reading occasional stories about disconnects. Would hate to 'disconnect' on an engagement ring!

So so exciting!!!!! Congrats!

I have no idea of the value of things that people ship to the Y&B. Would I ship a diamond anywhere? No. But that's me. I'd get it at home and bring it with me. However, if I had to ship something to the resort that was expensive, I'd send it insured and of course signature required. That means the people at the shipping department sign for it and then you would have to sign for it too. The shipping department would never leave a package outside a room and in the case of an insured or signed for package, I doubt they would even leave it in the room ... they would be looking for you to sign for it. As far as asking a concierge to get it for you, I don't think it's allowed. The shipping department is a separate entity ... not Disney. They deliver or you pick up -- that's the way it works.

All you would have to say is you were going downstairs to look at something in the shop, walk over to the shipping department and pick it up. If she says she wants to go too, tell her you just want to surprise her with something. She'll think you are buying her Mickey ears or something. Then stop and get her something small in the gift shop and give it to her when you return to the room. You can then lock the ring in the safe in the room and you keep the key. Or you can put it in a safe deposit box at the front desk until you are ready to give it to her.

Yay for October and Disney!! Hope you have a great time!!

You also have a nice trip!!!
DS saw the MB when I picked him up from his school and he was super excited to see it. Now we just have to survive 29 more days before Disney. :hyper:

Thanks again - thinking of just changing the timing. Will the convention shipping center be open on Columbus Day? Should I be emailing IPO to set this up?

I also checked my MDE page and found that my MB for Oct/Nov trip is currently being customized and preparing to ship!! This is very cool because while I was there on 9/18 I was disappointed in my color selection because the orange clashed with the Mickey bling that could be purchased to jazz up the band :rotfl::rotfl: I wished I had picked the yellow,
I am on the fence about whether I want a pink one or red? I want some bling, and am not a fan of princess bling which leads me to think I want red. But I LOVE pink- so will I be disappointed with pink in terms of what I can bling it with???

Their normal closing time is 7 PM. I checked our schedule and it says they are open but lots of time we don't get notified they are closed due to holidays or close early (like at 5 PM) until a day or two before.

IPO can't really set up anything with them. If you want them to deliver it, you would have to wait until you get there and just call the Business Center and tell them what time you will be in the room and request they deliver it then. You can't set up delivery for a package until the Business Center/Shipping Department actually has the package. Depending on their staffing, they will either say they can deliver it exactly when you want it or if not, you'd have to walk down and get it. They will not deliver it to the front desk or concierge. Remember, they are not a Disney department ... they are a separate company, independent of Disney. And you should definitely send it where a signature is required ... so the Business Center/Shipping Department will sign for it and then in turn you will have to sign for it.

Decisions, decisions. I am flying home from our vacation today. When we arrived, it was quickly obvious our nice green and blue bands weren't working. So.. We were given two that were a lovely shade of gray. At least they worked, lol.

Sorry, I should have clarified - I understand needing to go pick up the parcel (or consider getting it shipped to my Washington PO Box and paying for USPS overnight to make sure it gets to the front desk on checkin). What time does the convention shipping department open on Monday the 14th?

I meant to ask if I should start coordinating with IPO for the other requests (flowers/balloons) on arrival, or if this is something I need to make a long distance call for

Well since reds and pinks work together I think you'll be fine with pink. Mine was orange and I wanted the Mickey parts that to me clashed with the orange, so I bought Peace, love and Mickey and that was fine!!

Whatever you decide i'm sure you will be fine!!

How fun and exciting. I have no idea what the answers to your questions are, I just wanted to say yay and good luck! Please share with us how it goes. I am such a romantic!

IPO does not set that up - IPO is for making dining and recreation reservations, golf reservations, etc. You need to coordinate flowers/balloons/wine/gifts with the Disney Florist. The people there are called Dream Makers. You can call a Dream Maker at 407-WDW-GIFT. You can also email them at DisneyDreamMaker@disney.com. They do in-room stuff at designated times (while you are out to dinner, etc) or will deliver stuff to the front desk for you to pick up later or for the front desk to deliver to the room. The Dream Makers will go as crazy or elaborate as you want. Some of the stuff they do is absolutely amazing!!!

If you want to send it by USPS overnight mail to the front desk to hold for you upon check-in, that's your choice but no way would I do that. Any CM could sign for it at the front desk, then it will lay around in the runner's cage or on the front desk just waiting for you to get there to pick it up. That would be very very very unsafe in my opinion. It could easily get misplaced or lost.

Personally I would never mail anything of that value but if I absolutely had to I would probably go with fed ex, insured, signature required.

Normal hours of business center/shipping department is 7AM to 7PM. I do not know if the hours will be different on Columbus Day.

I put my request in for a king bed low or ground floor for the yacht club. Do you find it is easier to get a king bed request or harder. It will not make or break my vacation if we do not have a king bed I just feel like for the 2 of us there is more space with a king bed than 2 queens esp when we do not use the other bed.

From what I have read, there are very few king bed rooms at the Yacht & Beach Club resorts. It doesn't hurt to ask, but it is possible that a room with a king bed will not be available during your stay.

I would word your request like this "King bed, if possible. Ground floor preferred"

Ask at check-in whether your requests were met. If not, if you are willing to switch rooms during the trip to a room with a king bed if there is one
available later, let them know that.

:thumbsup2

Not sure if we can make it back in 2014 or not yet, but if we do, I think it's going to be Beach Club in September :) So excited! Doing research and I think Beach Club is going to be fantastic!!

:welcome:

Hope you are able to book your trip next year!!!

Please let us know if you have any questions.

:welcome: to the DIS and to this thread.

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list on Page 1.

:woohoo:

Congratulations on the trip and your engagement plans!

I think if at all possible, you should keep the ring with you and bring it to the resort. You mentioned sending it to your Washington PO Box. If you would have to go and pick it up and prepare it for mailing anyway, it may just be better to carry it through airport security in your pocket.

It has been many years since I have travelled between the US and Canada, so I don't know if there is extra scrutiny as you go through airport, but my rings do not trigger the metal detectors.

If you don't want to keep it in your room safe, the front desk safety deposit box (there's not one at CL is there?) would be the best place. Not bell services- too much activity there.

Good luck!

Our AKL CL Magic Bands were shipped and they are already out for delivery!! Tomorrow ought to be the shipment of our BC bands. :) I think it was Nannette who said that IT had told her that she would only get one set. I was told the same thing. Glad I checked in on MDE and saw that I had another set to customize. Got them done with little time to spare!
