I'm not really a sports fan but with the Olympics coming so close to me in 2012 I'd love to experience it. It's a bit early to know for sure but does anyone know how one gets tickets to these events or the sort of costs involved?

Tickets become available nearer the event. I would imagine they will sell out quickly especially for the Opening & Closing ceremonies. Other countries which have hosted the games tend to sell the tickets in batches for each event by releasing a certain amount at a time.

I don't think they will be cheap, although i'm sure I read somewhere that the plan is to make them available to every budget so who knows.

I have registered to be a volunteer for the games & hope to be picked.

I would love to get tickets too Libby.

We will have to all keep a look at a bit nearer the time and post info on here for each other.

Nikki - where did you register to become a volunteer?

I thought we might be able to get tickets for some of the earlier rounds but DH suggested it would be a good time to go on holiday and maybe rent our own house, 30 minutes from London, to a sports fan. (I hope he was only joking!)

There is a bit about the programme & then a link to register

People who live in Wimbledon do this every year for the tennis.

I have just found out the tickets will go on sale in 2011:goodvibes

On Wikipedia it says

They will be going on sale in 2011, with at least 50% of these priced under £20. To reduce traffic, ticketholders would be entitled to free use of London's public transportation network on the day of the event. [...] There will also be free events: for example, the marathon and road cycling.

I'm really excited to go and see something, but I really cannot make up my mind!

My brother was half joking about doing the same thing as part of the Olympic Village is along the road from him :)

Thanks for the link Kerry...I will check it out. :thumbsup2
