Audray,

Do you have any copies of the weekly events?? We check-in a little more than a month away...

For everyone else, any recommendations on where to rent a waverunner from?? We can't do a tour type rental b/c we have more kids than we can have passengers for 2 drivers!! :P

Can't wait!

Unfortunately, we didn't bring anything back with us. I know that if you call the resort, they will e-mail you a copy.

Could anyone share thoughts and/or insght into the dolphin excursion and who to work with?? Also are fishing charters big in this area?? I've never been on the Atlantic ocean so not sure... still waiting for waverunner input too... no one has rented any of these @ hhi??

We just returned from our first visit to HHI and had a wonderful time! So much fun that I am trying to figure out how to find the points for another trip next year ;)
We were in a 2BR overlooking the pool. The location was wonderful, it was nice to watch my big kids swim from the porch while the baby napped in the room. It was a little loud later in the evening but the convenience factor far outweighed the extra noise.
The weather was great, the resort was beautiful. We all can't wait to return. We didn't rent anything, but it would have been very very easy. The CMs hand out great info packets at check in with rental companies, boat charters, restaurants, tours, ect. The chalkboards at the resort have tons of info on activities too. We wished our kids were all 5 and up so we could have signed them up for Kid's night out, it looked like a lot of fun!

Oh man that location does sound pretty awesome!! We have a 2 BR booked for our trip in June, I might have to check on that type of location as well as our kids could swim all day if we let them!! haha...

udflyer, we plan on doing a dolphin excursion but not sure who to use though. i would also like to know about the deep sea fishing excursions as well. My oldest would love to try this. I have heard that the dolphin tour that you can set up through the resort is a good one but i remember a couple of years ago some one had posted some good info too.

DH and I did the dolphin excursion through the resort with the discount at the time. We thought it was excellent, we did see dolphins and learned a lot about the history in the area.

I went thru the resort also, and that's what I'd recommend doing. Just go to the recreation counter. Wave runners-in all honesty, it wouldn't surprise me if these were banned on the waters off HHI, much too "tacky" (loud) for the town fathers possibly. HHI has VERY strict beach rules. Down here at South Padre Island, we see wave runners all the time and they do look like so much fun!

DH and I also did the dolphin excursion through the resort in March. I think the DVC discount is on Mondays and Wednesdays, and I believe it was 10%. The guide had grown up in the area and knew a lot about the birds, trees, history, etc., as well as dolphins. He was very professional and also a lot of fun. We saw a lot of dolphins, and some jumped up within a few feet of our boat. You sign up at the DVC Recreation desk, meet there at the appropriate time, and the guide walks you to his boat at the harbor in the front of the resort. He doesn't take you into the open ocean, and the ride is smooth and easy. We've done dolphin excursions at other coastal areas, and we enjoyed this one the most since we saw so many dolphin.

We'll be celebrating our 11th Thanksgiving at HH this year! :yay:

Nov 21 - 25. Our oldest is starting college this fall so we've had to shorten our time but 4 nights is better than none!

Kristen

I was going to ask you to switch our dates but I see we haven't been listed yet. So, please add our new dates Dec 16 - 22!! :cool1:

My sister is due Thanksgiving Day so our annual trip to HH will have to be postponed a few weeks.

Thanks!

Kristen

That's good news for you, but bad news for us. I was really looking forward to seeing you again this year. Aren't you doing the 1/2 Marathon in January? And is Kevin doing the Dopey Challenge? If so, I'm hoping that we'll see you there. It depends on Guy's ability to train after his surgery next week. I tried to talk him into "just" the 1/2 Marathon, but he says "Dopey or nothing".
For you runners, there IS a half-marathon at HHI in February. No full marathon though-the town fathers feel it would be too disruptive to traffic and strain too many medical services. Some dedicated runners are going to keep trying, though!

I'm a little sad to miss being there for Thanksgiving but thankful it is for a happy reason!

Yes, we're both running the half in January. We'll see you there! Kev just doesn't have the time to train so the Dopey is a no-go this time. Tell Guy to take it easy though!!

Whoops! Sorry about that! Adding you now.

Anyone else get overlooked? Let me know and I'll fix it, thanks.:)

I hope everyone on this thread has a wonderful HHI vacation. I discovered the magic of HHI in October of 2011. It was a girlfriend trip. The resort was truly wonderful and I am looking forward to staying there again in spring of 2013.

My present trip report, Why Not Just Queue Up Another Disney Trip? (see my siggie), has several updates devoted just to HHI, Savannah, and Charleston. I took a ton of pictures of the resort, so I thought they may be of interest to some first timers!

You book everything when you get there. You'll get a schedule with all the weekly activities and can call from your room or go to the recreation window to sign up. Some you can sign up days in advance, some are only a day or so in advance, it will be on the schedule.
They have no characters at the HH resort, just Shadow, the (real) dog.;)

The only meals they have are a BBQ and a Low Country Shrimp Boil. If they are having them during the time you're there, you can book it when you get there.:)
How can I find a schedule of when certain meals are served? We too are trying to plan ahead for may 2013. popcorn::
