2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Hi everyone!! I'm just wondering if anyone has a guestimate how much a taxi ride back to beach club would be from both wilderness lodge and poly? Also what is it standard to tip a taxi driver? Thanks for any in put! Our ohana and WCC dinners are the only ones not at Epcot lol and I think a cab home would be best those nights.

We always take cabs from the beach club they typically run 15 to 20 dollars.

Here is a taxi fare estimator with mears

Where do you guys like to eat over on the Boardwalk or over in the Swan / Dolphin? We've eaten at ESPN before and that was fine. Tried a cupcake from the Boardwalk Bakery and espresso from the Boardwalk Joe's. Eaten at Fresh Market for breakfast. Haven't tried any of the other options "across the water" though. Since we like to stroll over there quite a bit, I'm all ears for suggestions.

We've eaten at Bluezoo at the Dolphin and it was wonderful. We'll be trying Il Mulino at the Swan next month. For quick/counter service, I think Picabu at the Dolphin is a great choice (and you get a discount with a AAA card). I would like to try Kouzzina, but it won't be in the cards this time. My kids love the Boardwalk Pizza window -- not the best pizza, but we love to eat and hang out (DH and I have a beer) and people watch.

no, we haven't eaten there before. I know that the people we ate with had been looking at the old menu, and missed the ribs that used to be served. The service was quite possibly the best I've ever had (the other family agreed) and my DH loved his meal, as did the kids, but the chicken I had was completely underwhelming.

So, had a BRUTAL time waking the kids and the other family for our 8:05 reservation at CP! The bus driver held the bus for the other dad, who had run back to their room to get sneakers for his DD. The sight of him running for the bus with all of us singing the Rocky theme at the top of our lungs and cheering was as memorable as the empty Magic Kingdom in the morning and walking on to Space Mountain! My voice is gone from involuntary squealing. LOL. I got diverted from my touring plan by the Next Gen fast passes I was given, and also DS asked for a Tomorrowland Speedway do-over (he ended up having his car driven by a CM last time) so we were NOT efficient. Sigh. Did the whole thing like amateurs! Hahaha Oh well, at least vie proved I'm not inflexible. The Fast Passes were pretty neat. When I scanned mine by the post with the etched in Mickey, the CM had to check his iPad and he addressed me by name. Kind of freaky!

Got back to the BC by 3, DD got a hair wrap with beads, I picked up the noodle family from Momto2Disneyboys (thanks!!!) and all kids went to the pool. I got a couple of Sunken Treasures (yes, they will make them!) and read my book by the pool for the afternoon. The kids were back in the room by 7 and DH and DS decided to do the movie on the beach and DD and I went to Epcot. However, DS was asleep before we kept the room and there he remains. LOL. I can't imagine what it's going to be like to go home and have to readjust our time clocks, but like Scarlett O'Hara, I'll worry about that tomorrow.

DS is sleeping in the rollaway and since DH sleeps the sleep of the dead, he is in bed with DD and I have a comfy queen bed to myself! Heaven!!!! LOL. Night all.

Rest day tomorrow!! :).

Feckless, I can so relate to how you get this idea of how things are going to go that day, and for whatever reason (e.g., do-over at Tomorrowland Speedway, etc.), your plans just change. I'm like you, though, as much of a planner as I am, I take it all in stride if things change. Would love to hear more about the Next Gen FP when you return. And LOL re: you all singing the Rocky theme. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Our plans have changed. Instead of June 15, we now leave in 10 days. We'll be staying at the swan for 3 nights then on to yacht club, club level for 4 nights.

Teena, absolutely wonderful news. Now you can really enjoy your visit. Six whole months until your next appointment is great, too.

Feckless, so fun to read your reports. Hope you and everyone else there continues to have a great time. Isn't the service at Tutto wonderful? We really enjoy the food as well.

We're fans of Crew's Cup, too. Love the atmosphere and the decor. We haven't eaten there for a couple years but will be back.

Someone asked about restaurants across the lake. We love Flying Fish. The chef makes the most amazing risottos.

ooh how much are the beads? Do they have any disney related beads?

Also, how are you finding your wireless connection to be?

Thanks again for your updates!! I have been researching disney all night and was so excited to see your post :)

The wireless connection is great. I'm using it for the kids' iPods, my phone, DD's laptop and the iPad. Streaming netflix is no problem.

Each section of small beads is $5 and each big bead is $5. I think they have some Disney princess ones but my DD wasn't interested so I didn't look too closely. We had $20 worth of beads. Then they charge by the inch. One strip cost $46. Ack!!! They stay in for several weeks to several months. DD loves hers.

Feckless I've been waiting and waiting to hear from someone that had been selected to use the New fastpass system!!!! Been checking on the Theme Parks board I think along with everyone else, to see if a Disboard member had been selelcted yet.

Can't wait to hear all about it when you return!!

Sounds like you're having a Wonderful Time.

Thanks again for taking time out of your vacation to update us!

OK, so I was asked what my favourite rides were in the MK. I was silly enough to think there were more questions coming, and didn't know how it would work, so I would have chosen different attractions if I didn't know that these were the ones they would give me the fastpass for. They actually screwed up our touring because I didn't have them planned, plus we had another family with us and only had the four FPs for us. They gave us four cards with Fastpass on them, same size as our KTTW cards. No magnetic strips, no names. They sent me an email saying the FP window for each of the four attractions I picked, and asked me what day I was going to be at MK. I knew we were going yesterday because of our CP reservation so they gave the first FP for Splash at 9:25 to 10:25, then the FP for HM from 11:15 to 12:15, Philharmagic at 12:30 to 1:30, and SM from 2-3. The lines weren't long anyway, and we went to SM first thing and just walked on. Normally we would have done Buzz next and moved on to Fantasyland, but we crossed the park to use our Splash FPs. Lost the other family along the way and never ended up doing anything in Fantasyland. Anyway, walked up to Splash and put the cards up against the post, and the Mickey would light up. The CMs had iPads on little handles and they said my name and everyone else's as they swiped the FPs. We had to swipe them again at the end of the FP line. We didn't use the HM or Philharmagic FP. Like I said, my plan was kind of screwed up! LOL

Men playing golf today at Osprey Ridge. The other mom is taking all four kids to the quiet pool and I have time to rest and relax wherever I want! Early morning and late night for me and DD so she is crabbbbbbyyyy. LOL DS went to sleep at 7 and woke up at 7. Unfortunately he woke DD who went to bed at midnight. They are watching the Simpsons on the iPad which is improving her mood. :rotfl:

Question: I'd like to go to Beaches & Cream (haven't been there in years) but every time I walk past it there is a huge line. Any suggestions for a good time to try to get in there? (I wish they took ARRs)

Feckless: Thanks for taking the time to write your updates -- they are great!

Feeling a bit down today - we had to have one of our lovely cats put to sleep today - so thought I would just check-in and see whats been going on. The new Fastpass sounds interesting but a bit of a planner disrupter!?

Just got an ADR at Kouzzina as OH wants to spend more time this trip on the Boardwalk - any views?

oooh and we are now 97 sleeps from Florida :goodvibes

I have our Boarding Passes printed, and I am all checked in for our quick Flower & Garden trip. We have a BCV Stuido. I have never stayed in less than a BCV 1 BR,so we will see.
I am so ready and so excited.

Dee,
On a different note we will be down with DS and DDiL for Food & Wood in Oct too.
Could I sign up for the Noodle Swap the week of October 6th to October 13 ?
TIA

We've just returned from a week at the BC. We had a fabulous time. The weather was hot and sunny all week and we got a lot of use out of Stormalong Bay. Our children (6 and 3) absolutely loved the sand bar.

All of our room requests were met and, other than very noisy hallways, we thought the BC was beautiful and perfect for families with young children.

Some of you might remember that I was anxious about my FIL's reaction to the BC after we upgraded my in-laws to the BC from POFQ (their usual resort). Well, MIL loved the BC and lived in the pool. She would return in a heartbeat. FIL, however, didn't like it :confused3. I underestimated how much he likes shopping and loves Downtown Disney. He spent the whole week riding buses over to DD and then complaining about how he missed his POFQ boat. I'm never talking them into a new resort again! Oh well, everybody else had a great time. My parents loved being able to walk into EPCOT for an evening stroll.

I will post a BC review on the main board when I get a chance. I'm currently dealing with laundry and obsessing over my photopass photos!

Thanks for this fabulous thread -- I used lots of your BC tips on this trip!

so glad you enjoyed BC!!! sorry FIL didn't. Glad your parents liked it though, the walk to EPCOT is the best part!!!

Feckless, thanks for the review of Tutto. My family could probably eat in the Italy pavillion our whole trip and be completely satisfied (well, besides the trip to Flying Fish :) ). I'm dieing to try out the new menu, and it sounded great but we'll have to see. We usually do Tutto for lunch though, can't speak much for dinner.

Excited to hear more about your trip!

We are torn about what to do with Tutto also. I have an ADR there, but DS rather go to Tokyo Grill. The menu at Tutto is definitely pricey, and we TiW these days instead of the DDP. What to do, what to do...

Also, add us to the list of those who LOVE Flying Fish at BW!!

MMears- we like BnC anytime between 11am-11:30am for an early lunch before heading out. Never a line then!:thumbsup2

Feckless- still loving the live reviews!

YCFAN... Have you considered BCV? Never done them myself, but they sound like they are roomier with more options for larger families...

Just a thought.

Thanks, I mentioned this too but everyone really wants to stay at YC. I took the majority of the people that are going to YC back in 2006 and they really want to do it again! That's what happens when you start someone out with CL!:rotfl: Beach Club could become an option though.

I am hoping for a little BC pixie dust. I am heading down in June with DH, DD, DS and my mom. We are booked at BC for our first time and are beyond excited. Well, my dad has decided he wants to come down for 2 days (he is not married to my mom anymore but they get along really well-it is weird but good). So, we just closed on our DVC contract so I have him booked at BWV and wait listed at BCV, I really hope some how it works out. Either way at least he will be close even if he can't use SAB with the kids. I had even considered putting him in our room but we have a GV CL room booked and it only holds 4 + an infant (DS) so it won't work. Oh well, it is still Disney, right?
