2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Hi everyone!

There is a YC stay planned for July for a conference. The company I'm booking with (they handle all the bookings for the conference) suggested a king room since we're traveling without kids. What are those rooms like? How comfortable are those murphy beds? Will my tall friend fit (he's 6'4'')? Does anyone have pics?
I posted this on the pictures thread first. I also have been searching the web for more info on those king bedrooms and I have to say there is very little to be found. About 15 years ago I stayed in a king room at the BC and the bed was a murphy bed. Do they still have the same kind of beds? What about the room layout, the size of the doom; is it the same as a regular queen room?

Can you tell I'm excited about the YC stay (but also worried about that room).
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

You can't book a king bed, you can only request one. Not sure if they did away with all the murphy beds or not. Last I heard they were all gone at the BC. There are very few king bed rooms at the Y&B. Like I said, you can request one, but you can't book one.

Thanks everyone for all the great info on this thread. We are checking into the BC tomorrow!! Hopefully I will find the Noodle Family safe and sound. :wizard:

Will be at BC in about 25 hours!!!!! I am so excited!!!!! Hope the girls do ok in the car (15 hours). We booked this trip in June and it is finally here! I have been enjoying this thread :)

I don't care if I get a king or not. The possible murphy bed has me worried comfortwise...
56 was the number of king bedrooms I managed to find online. Don't know if that is for only the YC.
I'm sure I will be happy with any room because I will be on vacation!:cool1:

If it doesn't matter, I'd just let it go and see what you get. I just know there aren't many except in the suites. At the BC, there are 37 kings and at the YC there are 75. That's not alot considering there are 1,239 rooms.

We have never stayed at a deluxe, on property resort before. I was searching for a walking path between Disney's Hollywood Studios and the ESPN restaurant at the boardwalk when I discovered all the resorts between DHS and Epcot. Once my husband got a peep at that pool he showed the kids and now all 4 of them are pressuring me to check out the Boardwalk area hotels. We could never afford to do the whole stay there so it would have to be a split stay as far as I'm concerned. I've priced it out and I have a few questions.

First of all is that pool a water park and something different from the resort regular pools? Do other Boardwalk area resorts share it since it's a water park? I know you are not allowed to pool hop but I'm wondering if it is something like Blizzard Beach. If you are allowed to use it by staying at a Boardwalk area resort then the Swan and Dolphin would be cheaper for us, but if it's only for guests of that hotel then I am under orders to check out which hotel it 'belongs' to and get prices.

This trip has turned from staying off property and renting a car to now aiming for a Deluxe with a pool to match. I had a little fender bender in a rented car (Door Ding) and the rental company nailed my insurance for close to $1000 to fix it so we are not happy about renting and would rather rely on ME, at least until the insurance gets back to normal.

I guess that's it for now. Once I figure out how that pool works I can plan which Hotel and when from there. Thanks for the help : )

Hello Ninja Mom!

I am not the best one to answer since I've never stayed at an Epcot resort, but I know the answer to some of your questions because of my research. That big pool you see is called Storm Along Bay, or SAB here. It is the pool for the Beach Club and Yacht Club. If you aren't staying at either of these resorts, you can't use SAB!

Welcome to the Board.

Welcome on board! The Yacht and Beach Resort is made up of three resorts: Yacht Club, Beach Club and Beach Club Villas. They each have their own regular normal type swimming pool. However, they all share a water park type pool area called Stormalong Bay ("SAB"). I assume SAB is what you are referring to.

To use SAB, you must stay at either the Beach Club, the Yacht Club or the Beach Club Villas. To get into SAB, you must show a room key for one of those three resorts.

SAB is fantastic. My husband and I really love it ... especially the lazy river part. If you stay at the BC, it is about a 4 minute walk into Epcot. There is boat service to Disney's Hollywood Studios or you can walk to that too but it's over a mile so I recommend the boat. There is bus service to all the other parks (including the two water parks) as well as Downtown Disney.

If you check out the first page of this thread, you'll see lots of pictures of SAB and the resort. I think you'll like it alot!

Whew... I think our budget just went WAAAaaaAAAy up. Thanks for the answer and the welcome. At least now I can concentrate on pricing out 2 hotels.

Are they really that different and is there an advantage to staying in one over the other? It will be 5 of us in the room. I know that is the max so is one room bigger than another. We would be staying in the hotel proper and not in a DVC rental. Depending on who is fighting with who, we used to use an air mattress but since we are flying one of the kids will be in a cot (or stuffed in a suitcase in the closet if the fighting gets too bad!)

My opinion: The BC lobby is bright and cheerful and noisy and fun. It's closer to Epcot. Only half of the rooms have full balconies. If a full balcony is a biggy for you, then make sure you add "full balcony requested" to your reservation. The rooms are the same at each resort. Only difference is the decor (see first page for pictures). However, the YC rooms all have full balconies. You are closer to the boat to Hollywood Studios if you stay at the YC. I call the YC the dark side ... only because the lobby has dark woods. You will find more of the convention people stay at the YC. Just as many people here on our thread like the YC better than the BC and vice versa. It's all run by the same GM and managers. The resorts share the same restaurants and common areas. Also, the BCV guests check in at the BC lobby so that seems to make the BC lobby more active. In the mornings in particular the lobby at the BC is loud and crowded because there is a character breakfast at the Cape May Cafe. The Cafe's entrance is right there in the BC lobby.

My family has stayed at both the BC and the YC. The rooms are the same size, but the decor differs slightly. Look at the photos on page one of this thread -- one resort may appeal to you more than the other.

Like Teena said, a balcony is more of a request at the BC and more of a guarantee at the YC. That may make a difference to you.

We are happy enough at either resort -- if I can get a room discount at one and not the other then that is the one we stay at. I see them as 2 parts of the same resort.

Doing a split-stay is a great way to enjoy the YC/BC and the fantastic SAB while saving a bit of money, too. Just make sure you leave enough time to swim!!!:goodvibes

Kinda a dumb question perhaps.... but do the lobbies of BC and YC connect?

Doing a split stay, and on day we check into YC the plan was check in and head over to Cape May for a late breakfast - can we just keep walking through the lobby and eventually find ourselves in BC's lobby - or do we need to go outside and walk over?

Nope they do not connect. There is an outside walkway that is covered (in case of rain). The walkway runs by Beaches & Cream, the Arcade, Periwigs and the Health Club.

Actually, you do both! The lobbies don't connect directly. But you do walk inside past Captain's Grill & around to Yachtsman's. You then must go outside onto a covered walkway. You'll go past the hair salon, health club & Beaches & Cream. Back inside & around the walkway to the BC lobby. It is very easy & convenient. You do not need to go all the way out to the sidewalk near the lake. And except for the heat, you are protected from the elements if it's rainy.

EDIT: I see Teena types faster than I do! :rotfl2:

Hello Friends,
I've been away from the boards for almost a year now. I'm not going this year (the first time in 11 years) and it's killing me. I knew I wouldn't be able to stand it if I kept coming back to my favorite thread on the disboards.

Robin: Glad your Mom is doing better.

Teena: Hope Lilly is growing like a weed!!!

We're just now starting to talk about a major trip for our extended family next summer. The main focus will be my then 3 year old niece. Planning is just beginning, hence back to the disboards.

I can't believe I won't make the 3rd annual Dis meet this summer. I've been to #1 and #2. Please know that I'll be there in spirit.

I'll be lurking from this point on. Glad to see the old gang again!!

Hi! I'm sorry you aren't getting in a trip this year. I absolutely know the feeling. We were't supposed to go this year either. But I just couldn't do it. So I was able to sweet talk my DH into a short 4 night trip as a birthday present for me & break from a stressful work project for him.

Just think, by next year, so much of the rehabs & new attractions will be done. Have fun planning your big family trip. :goodvibes

Wow this board moves fast! (or maybe I'm just moving too slow these days).

I keep meaning to go back through all the posts so I can join back in the conversation in a meaningful way, but then I get side-tracked.

Maybe it is just easier to join in on the most current conversation.

You will love the BC or YC. We stayed there in March and loved it. In theory I'm writing a trip report but it is taking me more time than I thought to get it finished. I'll try to post another installment before the end of this weekend.

As for which resort to stay at... I'd say book two rooms, one at YC and one at BC.:lmao: Depending on who is fighting with who you can stay with your favourite that day at one resort and make the rest of the family stay at the other. Then you can meet at SAB each day where it is so wonderful that everyone will be happy!

Be sure to find some time for a lunch or snack at Beaches and Cream. Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm.
