2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Ok, now that I have had to do a "vacation remodel" I switched some ADR's around and lucked into 'Ohana with a 5:00 seating :woohoo: so now I have an open spot on a day that Epcot has EMH. My other ADR's are Teppan Edo, 1900 Park Fare, and Coral Reef.

I need some help from my fellow BC'ers on one more place to eat to fill this hole. :goodvibes

I totally watched last night and thankfully, it's On-Demand so I can watch again! Now how will I know who you are?

Being from MA - home of Yankee Candle, I had to watch.

Our store was the very last segment, Center Valley, PA, with Dan. I was the person that told him that Dan was waiting in the back room when he came in asked where Dan was. I have short straight hair that is longer in the front than the back, and had on a grey sweater. It think my back was to the camera & then I turned & pointed to tell the CEO where to go. In another clip I'm standing with Dan looking at the CEO after he dropped a sign, shaking my head like "get it together buddy!" That was my whole 5 seconds of fame LOL!!

Our store starts at 27:20 and I'm on at 27:28 if this link works:

It worked! And I actually remembered that part. You're famous!!!!

Tara, how exciting! I had to laugh at "the only hardship in my life I could come up with was that it had been 6 months since I'd been in Disney"! I wish I had recorded it to go back and look for you. How did you all know for months before- was it just company rumor mill? I always try to imagine this scenario at my workplace....

We suspected instantly when corporate, who NEVER lets us speak to the media, sent out a memo to all stores early last year that should we be contacted by xyz Media, we could talk to them. I happened to be there the day they called & as soon as they started trying to pull a sob story out of me I knew it was Undercover Boss. They didn't tell us until 24 hours before they were coming to film, it was a huge operation & crew. It was so awkward knowing what it was but not being able to let on. Even when they were flying Dan to headquarters in MA for the "reveal" we weren't allowed to let on that we knew. We knew what Dan was given then already (it was filmed last October) but had to sign papers that we wouldn't talk about it until it aired.

While it wasn't scripted, Dan was "encouraged" on what to say. Anything negative he brought up was quickly cut & he was urged to word it differently. I'm sure most reality TV shows are like that. They cut out soooo much relevant stuff but hey that's TV! I thought they'd focus more on how Dan was struggling to put himself through school while working full time and helping his family after his dad's death (it has just happened 4 months before the taping) but I thought they just focused on his dad's death more than the schooling. He was also given a trip to Comicon for him & his brothers too since their dad was a HUGE comic book collector & fan. His dad was a great guy, we were all devastated when he passsed. Dan's mom also worked in our store for about 4 years until her husband passed away, so we are all very close.

And yes, Dan is a quirky as he appeared! He's a REALLY good kid though, smart, responsible & respectful, and a VERY dedicated employee. I wish he hadn't transferred out of our store, but it was a great opportunity for him to advance with the company in another store.

No idea - What is his favorite song?

So, I should probably read to the end of the thread before posting to avoid being a doofus.

Love the sign, BTW.

LOL I should have worn Mickey ears or something, or done some sort of BC shout out!

Better chat about BC before we're patty slapped again to stay on topic!
Someone mentioned going to Teppen Edo, if you haven't been there before it's a lot of fun. I'ev eeaten there a few times, and I took the boys last week for their first time there. They loved it and learned to eat with cheater chop sticks!

Tara: Hubby wasn't home last night to see it, so we're watching it again now. LOL (We should have a DIS meet at the YC flagship store.)

Ok, I have a dilemma. There is a chance that Be Our Guest, the new restaurant at MK will be open when we go in October, so we're considering it for our trip. I would really like to go if it's open. Rumor is the BoG will be a CS at lunch and a TS at dinner.

As it is now, we have all our dinners planned. Mostly 2TS and then Cape May. We don't have a dinner planned for the night we want to go to MNSHHP. We were thinking a late lunch that day before the party.

So I'm trying to figure out what to do if BoG is open.

1. Do we go for lunch, trading out our Yak & Yeti lunch (yes, I know, different parks, but that's not a concern) which was my original thought? (keep in mind, it may be a CS at lunch.)

2. Do we go to BoG for an earlier dinner on the night of our MNSHHP instead of the Kona lunch?

3. Other? Throw out your ideas.

Of course, this is all speculation because we're not sure when BoG is going to be open and it might just be a soft opening.

After much deliberation and a spreadsheet or two, my DH and I decided to skip on free dining and stick with our BC reservation from 8/20-8/28. As it turns out, we really don't save anything since my DH insists on Deluxe dining and we had an awesome pin discount.

So now we are wondering if we should upgrade from a standard view to a water view. The difference is about $550. Are the rooms any different besides the view? What about their location at the resort? We are taking our two sons (7 and 9) so we will frequent the pool and bus lines daily - the closer we are to those areas the better. I would love to hear your opinions.

Thanks!
Maria

Look at my Mickey pushpin pushing its way out the OTHER SIDE of Spaceship Earth!!!

In talking to my family tonight, I decided to change our first night's ADR from Biergarten to Teppan Edo, if I can get it. I emailed IPO... I was OK with the public tables if the other family was going to be there, but they are flying on points and don't arrive until 11:30 pm...

Also, I'm 99% sure I'm sucking it up and getting the DDP. With one TS every night and a bunch of buffets, I think it makes sense. Plus it will give us more of a false "all inclusive" feeling. LOL

We did both Biergarten and Teppan Edo on our trip and I think you are making a good choice. Biergarten was good, but Teppan Edo was way better (IMHO). Teppan Edo will be at the top of our must do list of our next trip.

Absolutely!

I made that sign back in 2009, to bring to Jedi Training Academy, but my boys didn't want to do it. My youngest, Ben, did do the JTA on our 2008 trip, but I wasn't there to see it. I was back at the resort with my oldest son who was not feeling well. :sad1:

I showed DS and he said your Death Star is upside down! :lmao:

We've stayed in standard, garden and water view at BC (we did on-line check, so just grabbed our packet, said "thank you," and didn't realize we received an upgrade until we walked in the room!) We've loved every one of our rooms, but prefer to book garden view, if it's available. I love sitting out on the balcony, and a good view is VERY important to me at non-WDW resorts and when we're doing a non-parks stay at WDW. But for our traditional WDW visits, a garden view is the right balance between possible parking lot view and the extra cost of a water view. But if garden view was not available, I'd probably go with standard.

Much of this depends on how much time you will spend on your balcony or looking out at the view. I'm staying at YC with our youngest son in less than two weeks, and I'm likely to spend more time on the balcony than usual because it's just the two of us and he's likely to fall asleep early. But I still booked YC GV so that I could be assured of a full balcony, not overlook the parking lot, but not pay the extra cost of the water view.

Good luck with your decision!

TaraPA: Thanks for sharing! That was great!

To all planning your trips: Happy planning!

To all at WDW: Have a wonderful time!

Counting down the days with you:cool1:

We really liked Teppan Edo, but just so that you know, you usually share a table with another family her too. I think they seat about 8?

I work for Yankee Candle & our CEO came to our store undercover (ok seriously, we knew for months that's what it was but weren't allowed to talk about it, and corporate kept playing dumb with us). They called to try & find someone with a sob story. I happened to be the one interviewed but I didn't get picked, the only hardship in my life I could come up with was that it had been 6 months since I'd been in Disney!! (After the conversation I truly think they were wanting to interview me as a candidate for My Strange Obsession or something...I didn't stop talking about WDW!)

LOL about the "My Strange Obsession." No one on here would find that odd. I'll have to check it out on Demand.

You really can't go wrong with so many wonderful choices. Our family really likes your two choices -Teppan Edo and Coral Reef.

If you like Italian, Tutto Italia is very good. If you have children, Garden Grill is a great choice. It's a sit down dinner with characters - nice to not have to keep jumping up at a buffet, while rushing back to greet the characters.

I would definitely move things to go to BoG. I'd probably drop Kona and go to an early dinner to get the table service experience. Actually, knowing me, I'd probably check out the counter service too at one point:)

I'm not sure about your views, as my family usually stays at BCV, but I love that you did a spreadsheet or two.

Awesome! We surely are counting down the days together! I didn't realize that the tables at Teppan Edo sat more than one family... Well, my DD wants to head straight to Japan (after the pool of course!) so it will work out great for us anyway...

Anyone do the pick a pearl in Japan? Worth the cash??? My DD loves anime, Studio Ghibli and all things Japanese so we're looking forward to the gift shop there. Hoping for something Totoro or Domo.

We have done the Pick a Pearl in Japan several times and never been disappointed. You can keep the pearl without a setting and have it set at home or put in a carriage-type necklace, or you can have them set it there for the price of whatever setting you choose. It's good to try at least once IMO. My daughters ask to go there almost every time we visit.

Though I made our reservations in August, I finally decided to stop lurking and post. We are going to be staying at the Yacht Club September 24-30. I'm really excited! We were originally scheduled to stay at the Beach Club, but I needed to shift our dates because my Air Force husband will be overseas (not any combat areas) until the 22nd. We couldn't take advantage of the awesome military promotion at the Beach Club for our new dates so switched to Yacht Club. We've never stayed deluxe and probably won't be able to again so this is a thrilling trip. I'm really happy that we get to take attend the first days of Food & Wine now and possibly run the Tower of Terror 10-miler. While I'm a little bummed not to be staying at BC, the resorts seem to be quite similar and I know we'll have a wonderful trip with lots to celebrate.

We always do laundry half-way through our vacation to help save room when we pack. This is our first time at BC and we saw they have a laundry service. I figure it's a steep price, but does anyone know the exact price of their laundry service? Not the dry cleaning that is also available, but the valet laundry service.

Thank you!
Amy in NC

Thank you and your hubby for his service! My BIL retired from the Air Force 2 years ago, and still works for them as a civilian. Hope you have a fantastic YC trip!!
