2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Greetings live form BC!!!

I had typed a long note & then lost the wifi connection - argh!

BC is BEAUTIFUL and I never want to leave! We're in a Deluxe CL room (the one I requested - thanks Teena & G!!!) and the room is amazing. It's like a small apartment! We're overlooking the quiet pool & hot tub which we've used more than once every day. Just came up from the hot tub on our way back from DHS, via The Boardwalk. The location of this room is sheer perfection!

Teena I'm meeting my parents in the lobby tomorrow morning around 8;30am, hope to see you then!

Can you post a pic of the room? Thanks!

I love coming on this thread. We have 80 days until we arrive at Disney and 83 days until we check in BC for the first time. I cannot wait and reading along with all of you is making the wait slightly more tolerable. I just am ready to burst, I am so excited for this trip!

IPO has been great and has booked some extra surprises for DH. He is going to do the surfing at TL, anyone done it? Should I go with him to take pictures and watch or is it too boring since I will not be participating (they said spectators are welcome).

Just heading back from Toronto this evening. Can't believe that in about a month I'll be the one posting live trip reports! So glad everything is going well for you, Tara. I'm sure your kids will figure out the ins and outs of SAB soon, construction or no construction. Keep 'em coming so we can all live vicariously! And thanks Gincar for leaving some noodles! Maybe we can get the swap back on track.

I think someone asked a question a little ways back out corking wine to take back to your room from the Epcot restaurants. I'm not sure if that would be allowed since I think from the "bring a container or chug the remainder" discussions that we've had concerning the slushy cart (to bring the refillable mug to pour the slushy into in order to get it back to the BC) that I think that it may not work. Maybe someone else has some insight?

This thread has such great info. I am so lucky to have found it and to have had more than 1 person give me the advice to stay put with my ressie at the BC. I truly am estatic with my decision.. It's just about 3 weeks until our arrival.. Yayayaya!!!
teena, when do you work again? I would love to stop by and say hello!!

I do miss the days though when the appetizer and tip were included in the DDP!

I agree. Appetizers are often my favorite part of the menu. Once that was removed, we did the deluxe plan a number of times for a shorter part of a split stay. With price increases, we no longer even do that.

One other nice thing about TiW is that you can use it with the dining plans if that works for you. As Angel said, that way you can save a bit on appetizers and adult beverages.

I remember reading that the drink menus throughout WDW were standardized a while ago, and I think that's part of it. I read about a special drink at AKL that's not on the menu (something like a Natazu, I think - say it out loud and you'll get it!) So I think all the specialities are gone.

But I LOVE your idea of bringing the card - copying the ingredients onto my 3x5 mission list card right now!

Hi BCV23! :wave2:

Hi pixarmom! I've read that about the standarized drink menus as well but am glad there are some exceptions. The last I knew, the Polynesian still served really good Mai Tais which are quite different from the ones served elsewhere in the "World." And Lapus Lapus are still there, too, I think? Natazu...love it. Not the drink which I've never had but the name. :rotfl:

Hi everyone. I'm sorry to be asking this as I'm sure it has been asked and answered a million times but I"m trying to finalize my grocery order for our trip. How big is the freezer section (or is there even a freezer section) in the fridges in the DVC studio fridges?

Thanks so much!

I don't know the dimensions but there is an actual freezer in a studio. We used to put gelatos for our daughter in it. It's large enough for a few things...frozen pizza and Mickey bars, etc..

I have a feeling we'll be buying a lot of wines around the world to try as well!! I also thought- if we were at a table service restaurant that sold wines by the bottle then I could have a glass with our meal and have them cork it so I can bring it back to the room. Do you know if they'll do that?

Thanks so much for the responses!!

Oh, sorry. I should have been clearer. I meant my DH likes to buy bottles of wine in France. We then enjoy them in the villa. They don't allow guests to walk out of the park with an open container of alcohol.

We've never taken a partially finished bottle out of Epcot but have at California Grill. They use on of those corked plastic bag sealer do-hickies. I would think the same thing would be allowed at Epcot if the individual restaurant carried the containers and if the security guards had gotten the memo

We need a volunteer who is going soon to experiment for us, no?

TaraPA, sounds like a perfect room. Sue M, is Whistler even more beautiful in person? It's on my bucket list. I would love to go there by train. GinCar, glad your vacation was so much fun, too.

Hi all! :) It's been a dream of ours to stay at BC or YC for a long time and now we're finally going to do it! We booked using the bounceback offer for YC, water view room 26 Oct-2 Nov. DW doesn't know we're going yet and I haven't figured out yet how I'm going to tell her.

I'm really excited about the resort, especially the easy access to Epcot and DHS, but I'm in need of a little reassurance.

We've spent a lot of time at Beach Club for dining and not much time at Yacht Club. I chose Yacht Club for our trip so that we'd have a better chance at a full balcony. Without revealing the secret, I've been able to find out from DW that a balcony is important to her but she's worried that Yacht Club will feel too stuffy. I know DD2 and DS1 will have no concerns and enjoy either resort. My two silly reassurance questions are:

1.) Will we (especially DW) be okay at Yacht Club as far as "stuffiness?"

2.) Even from the farthest room in Yacht Club it's still a pretty short walk to Epcot, correct? Like I said we've made the walk to and from Beach Club a lot but it's amazing how much a few weeks of separation and the planning bug will make you worry. :)

Ultimately I know it's Disney and that our stay will be wonderful at either resort. Thank you for a very helpful thread!

We've stayed at YC three times and never felt it was too "stuffy".
There really isn't that much difference walking to EPCOT. YC is a little closer to the water taxis and the walkway to DHS, and BC is a little closer to EPCOT, but I think either way there's only about 5 minutes difference.

Thank you! :) I think DW got her impression of YC because we usually walk through the BC lobby during the day and when we checked out the YC lobby it was nighttime and there wasn't anyone in the lobby. I feel better now.

See you there! We check into the YC on Oct. 27 and out on Nov. 3, so we're overlapping for most of the trip. We booked Garden View though. This is also our first trip to the YC/BC, so I can't really answer your questions.

Hope you'll come back to tell us how you "break the news" to DW.

We will be checking in to BC soon!!! :cool1:
I booked a CL standard room as the lagoon view and deluxe rooms weren't available. On our last stay, our CL Standard room was a bit disappointing as we had a stand up only balcony.
Just wondering if there is a particular room request anyone can suggest to me other than "Full Balcony room"? If anyone has suggestions I would love it!
Wish they had a deluxe room available as the previous poster's description of it sounded wonderful!!!
Thank you for you help!!! :worship:

That's exciting! :) Initially it wasn't going to be a surprise for her but when she voiced some hesitation on going back again this year, I thought it best to book the bounceback in secret and then see if I could convince her after we've been back for a little while. She's never stayed Deluxe so I think that will help to convince her that this will be a good trip. The trip is two weeks after our anniversary so I think I can link the surprise reveal to that somehow.

The freezer was inside the fridge. I would guess that it was about 5 inches high. The length and width would have matched the small fridge.

I see a PP told you what they put in theirs.

You could probably get more info on the DVC Resorts or DVC Mousecellaneous board.

I've started my Trip Report!

We stayed at the YC CL March 10-17. Over the next few weeks I will be working on a Trip Report. If you care to read it, you can find it at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2900213

Fair warning - the first post is all background, so mostly text without pictures. I promise to make sure future reports contain more pictures!

Thanks Janet! Things are LOOKING GOOD with that trip report!!!

Yeah, our mugs are invaluable for bringing slushy drinks back to BC. I sailed thru the exit, but the guy behind me got pulled over, lol, for trying to bring a beer thru  I wanted to turn around and tell him next time to bring a mug, but didn't want to get myself busted!

angel16 Grey Goose and Grand marnier slushies can be found in the cart outside in France :goodvibes yum. Bring your mug to transfer. Drink stays cold, and easier to drink without spilling!

BCV23 yes, Whistler is spectacular. Looks like a Christmas Card in the winter, but it's also pretty in summer too!

teena, when do you work again? I would love to stop by and say hello!!

Right now Sundays and Mondays but I'm changing to Saturdays and Sundays soon (just not sure when but I'll post here as soon as I know). I'll be on the Disney Magic though in April. We leave April 13th and won't be back until April 20th (Friday). I'm sure I'll be working the 22nd but not sure about whether the second day will be the 21st or 23rd.

Why o Why have I never thought to bring my refillable mug to the parks for slushy "grown up" goodness :confused3 such a fantastic idea!!! I always make such a mess with those plastic martini type cups! Now to find out if our rented city mini stroller has a cup holder for said genius idea!!

You guys Rock!!:worship:

Got all of my ADRs plus one extra.....IPO booked 'Ohana for dinner instead of breakfast. I went online and did the breakfast ressie myself and will now ponder keeping the dinner one as well. We've never done dinner there, only breakfast and I've heard both good and bad about dinner. It's for 7:10 pm which will give us plenty of time to go to MK for rope drop (after 7:30 breakfast) and time to relax at SAB in the afternoon and still head over to the Poly for dinner. It is on a MNSSHP night, so I'm thinking we might see Hallowishes on the Poly beach afterwards!

We're eating at Captain's Grille on our arrival night....I figure with a 6:05 am flight, we'll be pretty tuckered out by that point, and won't feel like going back into the parks for dinner. :goodvibes

Everything else is an EPCOTxtravaganza with Le Cellier lunch, Biergarten and Garden Grill dinners. I did make a dinner reservation at Whispering Canyon, but might switch to Tutto Italia after their new menu is released.

I just love the 180 day mark.....it just pumps up the excitement level a little bit!!
