2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

I have bad news, ladies...the Sunken Treasure is officially off the drink menu at Hurricane Hannah's  I, like you, dream of sitting in the sun at SAB, Sunken Treasure in hand. When I was there last week, I went to order one, and the bartender said, "Oh, we don't make those anymore, but seeing that it's an oldie but goody, I will make you one." I couldn't believe it, but one look at the drink menu sign, and he was right. He said that occasionally people still ask for it, and he would be happy to make it for anyone who asked him to. Hoping that every bartender there feels like he does. Naturally, I felt the urge to have as many as possible during my stay, in case it was my last.......

Hi I dont remember a corkscrew in the room (we brought our own) but I do think they sold them in the marketplace? We bought some decent red wine there but the name escapes me now-I might have had more than my share:rotfl: Hope this helps:)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a bit more than your share of good wine while at Disney  I think I'll throw a corkscrew in our checked luggage just in case! Thanks!

The villas are supposed to have a corkscrew but I've found that it isn't always there. I bought one on a trip a few years ago and now I keep it in my "Disney box" and bring it - just in case.
The Marketplace will have some drinkable wine. At DVC resorts in general I think you can buy a decent bottle of wine for a reasonable price.

Amanda

Thanks!! We've never stayed at a DVC before (we own a timeshare and traded through RCI - total fluke that I was able to get BCV - so stinkin' excited I was able to)!! So I'm thrilled to hear they have some good wines!! Some of the wine choices at the Value and Moderates we've stayed at left a lot to be desired.

As Amanda said, there should be a corkscrew in the kitchen. If not, call housekeeping and they will bring you one. Like Amanda, we bring our own.

I can't think of anywhere in the Epcot resort area that you can use your TiW to buy a bottle of wine other than the full service restaurants where the markup will more than erase any savings. For us, one of the many delights of BCV is the ability to purchase wine in "France" and bring it back to the villa. We personally haven't enjoyed the wines available at the Marketplace the couple times we've tried that route.

I have a feeling we'll be buying a lot of wines around the world to try as well!! I also thought- if we were at a table service restaurant that sold wines by the bottle then I could have a glass with our meal and have them cork it so I can bring it back to the room. Do you know if they'll do that?

Thanks so much for the responses!!

What a list!! Thanks so much! We've never stayed DVC - so this is awesome info all around :cool1:

If you go to the Beach Club Marketplace, don't get too excited if you see this shirt:

BeachClubYouthTshirt.jpg

I'm not sure if Marlton Mom mentioned it, but this is a youth T-shirt, not an adult T-shirt. The cast member told me that the largest size it comes in is youth XL. In my opinion, it's much nicer than the adult shirt. Other shoppers in the store shared my opinion.

However, go ahead and get excited about the key chain, even if you don't need a keychain:

BeachClubKeyChain2.jpg

It's that soft rubbery, 3-dimensional puffy stuff, which you would be familiar with if you've ever seen this magnet:

Mickeyfriendsmagnet.jpg

I bought the key chain, took off the ring, and attached a magnet to the back to make my own magnet. I happened to have business card size magnets, which are thin enough to cut to size. One side of those magnets is self-adhesive, so I stuck it to the back of the key chain. I realize that most people don't have business card size magnets lying around the house, but I would think you could get a magnet at a craft store and attach it to the back of the key chain.

I seem to recall that they had Beach Club magnets, but they were not that rubbery 3D puffy stuff which I like. (I'm sure someone can tell me the technical name for it.)

Love the kids t-shirt from the Marketplace.....think I'll have to order a couple of those as surprises for the kids before our trip!!

Faxed in my dining requests to IPO on Thursday....my ADR window opens tomorrow. I am very happy to not have to get up at 6 am to make those ADRs in a sleepy haze!!

When we were there in September, I never had any problems getting a Sunken Treasure.....one of the bartenders told me that it was "an oldie, but goodie", so I hope everyone else is as lucky! I can't wait to have mine this September!!

181 days to go!!

Cindy

Hi everyone. I'm sorry to be asking this as I'm sure it has been asked and answered a million times but I"m trying to finalize my grocery order for our trip. How big is the freezer section (or is there even a freezer section) in the fridges in the DVC studio fridges?

Thanks so much!

I'm not sure, but there may be some photos of the refrigerator/freezer on Page 1, the BCV post.

Or hopefully one of our DVC members can give you this info

Greetings live form BC!!!

I had typed a long note & then lost the wifi connection - argh!

BC is BEAUTIFUL and I never want to leave! We're in a Deluxe CL room (the one I requested - thanks Teena & G!!!) and the room is amazing. It's like a small apartment! We're overlooking the quiet pool & hot tub which we've used more than once every day. Just came up from the hot tub on our way back from DHS, via The Boardwalk. The location of this room is sheer perfection!

Teena I'm meeting my parents in the lobby tomorrow morning around 8;30am, hope to see you then!

I wanted to add that the parks are VERY full right now. We've decided to not even go to the parks until evening, and then stay til close. Wait times during the day were 45-120 min. and we just weren't getting anything done but waiting. Tomorrow we're attempting MK til 3am - doubtful it will happen but we're spending the day with my parents here & they don't want to go to a park. So we won't even get to MK til most likely 7-8pm.

My kids love SAB but we're all confused on manueviung around it with the construction. It was very full yesterday so that didn't help. The kids did play bingo & other pool games which they absolutely loved. They won some prizes so they want to keep going back every day! I did not get to time the lazy river yet (that was on my list from Dee LOL).

PixarmomPm'd you about Whistler trip. Hope you get back there one day! It's about time around here that we've had some sunshine. Guess we don't call it the wet coast for nothing  May go back up for Easter.
Can't believe how time flies! Before I know it, it will be Aug, and WDW time again :goodvibes

HI!!!!! :wave2: :wave2: :wave2:

Have fun!!! Say hello to the lobsters in the Lobster omelet for me at the Captains Grille!!

Oh, and say hi to the Grey Goose slushie, and the Margarita's in Mexico, the Chocolate croissant at the BC Market Place and that smell in the BC lobby and the exit at door 1501 and the fish lamp on the first floor, after the Market place but before the BC quiet pool exit... you know.... THIS Fish Lamp!!!!

Hi Angel. Yes, tax is included in the DDP but not tip.

We love TiW. It works very well for us although you'll have to do a bit of math to figure out if it will pay off for you. Happy planning!:surfweb:

:wave2: Hi BCV23, Good to see you here. It has been a long time since we have visited. :goodvibes Thank you for answering my questions. We have had a TIW card before and used it for ordering appetizers and alcohol. Right now we probably have over kill going on. We are booked club level with the dining plan.

As the kids got older and started being "Disney Adults" (where else would a 10 year old be considered an adult?) we found the TIW worked better for us.
I do miss the days though when the appetizer and tip were included in the DDP!

Oh those were great days for sure! I think you all are conviencing me to go with the TIW card and just order what we want when we want. Silly question...as I should go look it up. Counter service is not allowed with the TIW card right?

Yeah! I miss those days too. Tip, Appy and Dessert! Now the DDP is more of a break even thing, not the value it once was. Esp with price increases.

I think with TIW the break even point for an AP holder is $375 as to weather you'll realize a savings. If you don't have an AP the break even is $400. (AP holders get a $25 discount on TIW ).

Thank you, this is really great to know! We will be at WDW for two weeks. I am pretty sure we will be over $375 with that many days.

Angel16, we love the TIW card - we had one for our trips in March 2010, July 2010, January 2011 and February 2011. In August 2011, our APs had expired and we are not FL residents, so no TIW for us - we missed it so much! So next month, we're getting APs again and a TIW card. Our boys are ages 5, 11 and 12, so we have two "Disney adults." Our 11-year-old always orders from the kids' menu, I usually order an appetizer instead of an entree, we never eat dessert at the same time as our meal, and we love signatures but don't always want all the food that comes with the DDP. But I think it's important to sit down with a list of your ADRs and the menus, see what you think you'll actually order and then decide which is a better value. For us, it's TIW by far, but I know it can work out differently for different families.

Pixarmom thank you for your thoughts and suggestions. I have scheduled tomorrow to work up our ADRs and check menus to decide which will be better for us. I am leaning toward the TIW...but I will let you all know.

I am so amazed by all the answers, suggestions and help I have found here. Thank you all. :grouphug:

Have to ask :) What did they replace the Sunken Treasure with???? Hope it is something good. The recipe for the Sunken Treasure sounds pretty amazing to me. :woohoo:

Gosh, I honestly believe I have a condition! Once again, our plans have changed. First, my family was supposed to be joining us on our first stay at the BCV as DVC members this coming August. My brother can't get out of work, so that's out. Next, we invited my in-laws to join us. August was too late for them due to prior engagements, so I was trying to move us up to July at the BCV with no luck. Then my brother in law says he can't make it with his family, so my wife and I finally said enough. We both want to go in July, family or not.

We finally settled on 2 nights at POR starting on 7/13, followed by a week in a 1BR garden view villa at BWV. I'm looking forward to staying there for the first time, but BCV will always be our favorite. I guess I should be happy to still be saying in the EPCOT area, but I'm still waitlisting for a 1BR at our home, BCV. Keeping my fingers crossed! Nate, sorry for the change sone more time, but you can take us off the Be Our Guest List for now. Hopefully, we'll be back on it soon!

Everyone together... FAMILY! &^%(#

No problem with the list. I'll make the change for now and keep hoping that your waitlist comes through!

Love the Deluxe room on the 4th floor. Great balcony, extra room square footage, great location and view of higher Illuminations fireworks. Enjoy!

Also, see you live in the lovely Lehigh Valley - my son attends Lehigh University.

Sad to say...we are back home.:sad2:

The BC was incredible and is now a favorite resort. The CL was such a surprise to my family. To have the whole stay in CL and not change rooms was pure pixie dust. Thank you Teena for helping contact the right people!

My family is now spoiled to CL. I have a feeling that will be what we reserve on our next trip. The team at BC were so warm and helpful.

We were able to go to all of the parks except AK. This trip was more about my DH and DS watching the St Louis Cardinals Spring training games and me and the girls lounging by the pool. :thumbsup2
I did laundry twice (I know, but I feel better coming home with clean clothes). I love how you can be at the quiet pool and still keep an eye on your clothing.

I left 3 yellow noodles with the valet/bell services. The girl that checked them in had no idea what I was doing. So, if anyone is there, please ask for Mrs. Noodle! My girls enjoyed having them at both pools.

Thank you again to all who contribute here! I will be lurking...
