2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Hi,

Does anyone know if the in room coffee makers are Keurig? I saw that they might be... Also, does anyone know if the lounge is open for coffee before 7:00? I will be traveling with my mom and she is an early riser. Last question - is WiFi really free in the rooms now?

Thank you in advance! :)

I'll take the coffee questions!!! :surfweb: I totally sympathize because I am an early-rising caffeine addict, too!

Yes and No- most of the rooms (including the concierge rooms) have the Cuisinart pod units. See Post 12, FAQ, on the first page of the thread for detailed pictures.

However the 1 and 2 BR suites (and maybe the VP and Presidental Suites), have the Keurig. Why???? No idea!

I believe the Marketplace opens at 6:30 for coffee only and if you are talking about the club lounge, then I *think* there is coffee available 24 hours a day. Can someone who has stayed concierge recently confirm that?

Free WiFi in rooms, I have heard that it is slow especially if there is more than one device being used.

We will be staying at YC for the first time in May 11th-14th) and we are so excited. We have been fortunate enough to experience SAB when we stayed at BCV a few years ago and we can't wait to play there again :) Thanks to Dee for this amazing thread :goodvibes

Thanks Dee. I am really glad you chose us as your project and not some "Dark Side" thread. Can't wait to read about your adventures in PR.

Setting up my meals for this August!!!:thumbsup2 I will be there on my birthday and set up O'hana's for that night. Has anyone eaten there? I have only had breakfast. I am just wondering about folks opinions of the food.

Also I keep going back and forth on the dining plan....Could anyone try to tell me which is the better deal. My boys are 5 and 7. THey are not huge eaters. However, we were just there on February vacation and it seemed like we spent a ton of money on food. All the prices seem to have gone way up for the cash paying folks in order to make up for the dining plans (Pretty disappointing). The Crystal Palace was over $100 for breakfast which is crazy, but I understand we are there to see the characters. I just don't know if the meal plan is worth it. I can't even find on the website how much it is per person per day. Does anyone know????

Thanks in advance

Hello BC/YC!
We are doing a split-stay this summer POR/YC and I am so excited! This will be DH, DD, and my first time at a Disney hotel and it will be a first visit to WDW for my in laws. DD wanted to be near SAB and I've always wanted to stay near the Boardwalk so it's a real treat!

I had a few questions I was hoping the YCers could answer. I am having hip surgery next month and FIL just had partial knee replacements so we will be a slow group. I am wondering if it is worthwhile to try and request ground floor rooms or if the elevators are convenient. I don't necessarily want an accessible room (would rather let those who truly need them have them) but want to anticipate sore limbs.

TIA!

Hello fellow Marylander - It sounds like you would like to minimize your walking for sure. The main elevators at YC are certainly convenient - right off the lobby and they are pretty quick. There is a single elevator - not so close to the lobby and veeerrry slow. In your situation consider requesting "close to main elevators". This would put you an elevator ride away from lobbby, bus and easy walk to SAB. You could request "close to lobby on first floor", however, there are not actually very many rooms close to lobby as the first floor in that area is primarily taken up by the store and restaurants. Hope that helps!

O'Hana has been a bit hit or miss for us foodwise, but we always enjoy the atmosphere. Kids seem to enjoy the games.

If you plan to do a lot of character meals, the DDP may be a good idea. The character meals/buffets are expensive and will drive up your food costs. If you prefer a bit of flexibility, then paying out of pocket may be easier. If you can get a TIW card that would be a way to save with out of pocket and keep your flexibility.

You mention you are going in August, will you be there during free dining? Maybe you could get it added to your reservation?

You sound like us - I have fibromyalgia & my friend has had 3 knee surgeries in the last 2 years - we are a sloooow moving duo! We used to be park commandos - now more the "meandering" type! I do notice with each trip, it gets more & tiring, but we won't stop!

We had a ground floor room at Poly last week - 1st ever - I usually request "not" to have ground floor because I have a snake phobia & I've seen too many "did you see the 6-foot snake IN the room" threads LOL. I have to admit that I loved it. For the average person it wouldn't make a difference to go out into the hall, through the building & around the outside to go places, but for us it was great to just walk out across the grass & be so much closer to where we wanted to be. I've not stayed at YC but I'm sure if you state what locations are most desirable to you - Epcot, SAB, lobby, quiet pool, etc. then someone can direct you as to what to request.

Love the new thread Dee - thanks!

Just made my ADRs yesterday for our Sept trip. Why, WHY does our vacation have to be so far away???? I want to go now!

Where are you going to be the most. Pool, Epcot, DHS, Lobby, Buses to other parks, etc? Once we know where you need to go then someone will have the best suggestion on where to ask for.

I think that's my main issue with trying to narrow down a request - we're going to be all over. We are moving resorts on our no-park day but have the Illuminations Cruise that night... then, we're looking at doing AK/EP and HS/MK for the next two days. I might skip the AK morning with DD. I think she's just going to be too short for EE and Dinosaur is too scary... just don't feel like dragging her around AK with only the safari to satisfy her so we may do MK that morning while the rest go AK. Planning on midday breaks so SAB will definitely be a priority. We will have our own car so not fully reliant on Dis transportation.

Woo-hoo for the Old Line State and for skipping winter this year! I lived in MD for 21 years and am stoked DH and I are stationed back in familiar territory!

I think I'll request a room near the main lobby elevator but not necessarily 1st floor. FIL refuses to slow down (tried to mountain bike down a dormant volcano with a broken tibia!!!) so I'm trying to be covert but accomodating... and using my own hip as the excuse. ;)

DH and I were Disney commandos, especially when we had the AP a few years back and this is our first trip taking it easy. I am like you - fear of first floor 'friends'... I have seen the slithering park guests when going through WS several times (they LOVE France!) and I am not a fan of Jimainey's friends. I think I'll give a call as we get closer and see what they might be able to do. Being close to the elevator should be sufficient but first floor might be good, too. I think we'll be first floor at POR on the first half of our trip, so that might also help us get a better feel for what works best.

Thanks for all the awesome advice! :thumbsup2 SOOOOO ready for this trip!!!!!!!:woohoo:

THanks for the info. I am a DVC member so there will never be free dining for us :sad2::sad2:

I couldn't find it on the Disney site either, so I went on southwest.com and pretended I was going to book a Disney vacation with them. For my 6 days in September, it was $312 per adult ($52 per day) and $96 per child ($16 per day). That will at least give you some reference point....this was for regular DDP.

I like the DDP simply for the convenience and I think it works for us with the mix of character meals that we usually do, but I could easily do my own "dining plan" by buying Disney gift cards before our trip and using those to pay for meals. We are paying for DDP this year after having "free" dining last year.

Just made my ADRs yesterday for our Sept trip. Why, WHY does our vacation have to be so far away???? I want to go now!

Ours is October. I feel your pain and then some.

Why???? No idea!

I wish all the rooms had Keurig. It would make it so much easier for me since that's what we have at home and then I could just pack a few of our favorite K-Cups (tea for me, coffee for hubby) to bring with us. I may have too shop around for some of the pods though and see if maybe I can get just a week's worth and not a big package.

yay a new thread - it means I can keep up to speed with this one. Learnt loads from you about Yacht and Beach already - thanks very much :goodvibes:

We will be dropping our friends at the airport around 5:30 am this Wednesday. Can we check in at 6:30? I totally get our room won't be ready.
Thanks!!
