2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

:welcome:

I'll add you to the list. What are your dates?

I remember that someone in the last year requested and got a microwave for their room, but I don't remember who it was. If they are still reading along, I'm sure they will post.

I'm going 9/16 - 9/22; booked on the GP discount but of course I'm hoping there's a better AP discount coming. I also need to double-check the AAA rates and see if that can save me anything over the GP.

I hope the person who requested the microwave does come along; I figured once we passed the AP discount dates I'd make a request for one then. I was just wondering what the likelihood was of getting one is; I'm ok with buying one but then I'd be throwing a microwave away at the end of the trip, which I hate the thought of. Very wasteful.

I went back and forth between BC and YC; I'm an adult that is probably traveling solo so I thought I'd like the YC, but I plan on a lot of Epcot time this trip and I love the light decor at BC so I figured I'd try there first. Very very much looking forward to it!

Thanks for the info. That time doesn't work for us anymore (it used to)... I guess that's why we keep missing out on B&C. Oh well, at least I can try! :)

mmmears, it took us a LONG time to get to B&C - had to wait until the timing worked out!

I recall an earlier question about dining in the Epcot resort area, and we've been to several TS locations in the area, including Cape May, Captain's Grill, Bluezoo, Il Mulino, Yachtsman, Beaches & Cream, ESPN and Flying Fish. If I had to choose just one favorite, it would probably be Yachtsman. This is kind of funny because I generally prefer the menus at Bluezoo and Flying Fish, and Il Mulino serves very good Italian, so I'm surprised that I identify Yachtsman as a favorite. Based on food alone, I'd rank Bluezoo pretty high. But we've just found the service and atmosphere at Yachtsman to be so warm and comfortable - and the food is quite good. So overall, I'd rank Yachtsman first and both Bluezoo and Il Mulino are close behind.

Another day gone!!! :(. Well, how's about I say, "another gorgeous day at Disney!"????

Spent the day on the resort yesterday. My kids had a disagreement with the other kid a on the trip ( joy!) or else it would have been an awesome day. The other mom took my kids for a couple of hours while the men goofed so I had a couple of hours lounging around my room, which was much needed! After breaking up the argumentm DD and I went to Epcot and did the Japan Kim Possible mission. Wasn't as good as I remembered - definitely time for the Phineus and Ferb update! It was SO FREAKIN HOT we almost died - I think it went to 95 yesterday. Then took the MK bus and the resort monorail to 'Ohana. More food than I anyone could ever put away!! The food was delicious and I loved being able to tour the Poly. However, the restaurant was so loud we couldn't have a conversation at all. The kids didn't like the activities either. We all found that to be quite annoying! The bread pudding was to die for though. The waiter also was a bit slow with our drinks, and didn't seem to believe us when we said our DS was 9. Im not a sensitive type person, and I'm aware people lie, but it was still kind of insulting. DS said to him, "I KNOW I look older but I'm 9 until the end of August!"

After dinner we wandered around and went out to the Poly beach. It was great for the kids to see the pool, and although they were super disappointed when they saw that pool stay open until at least 10:20 when we left, they agreed that SAB beat their pool hands down. The Poly was my 2nd choice so it was cool to visit. We watched the electrical water parade, and the other family left but we stayed and watched Wishes, which was awesome. If only I could have had a Dole Whip but I was too full to move! Didn't attempt the resort transportation afterwards - got a cab and it was about $16.

This morning I got the family out the door for Universal by about 9 a.m. I wou,d have liked earlier but it worked out fine! LOL. Crowd levels were very low. We walked on to Forbidden Journey, and it was amazing. However, the ride stopped unexpectedly right before the end and we had to wait a few minutes. Totally broke up the experience. I wanted to go back and ride again, but I got overruled. Bought some every flavour beans and some cauldron cakes and wanted to get a Butterbeer but DD had roller coasters in mind! Rode Dragon Challenge and almost hurled. Luckily I brought Gravol. DH was green!! He stayed away from the coasters after that. LOL

In summary, we rode a TON of rides between 9:30 and 5: Forbidden Journey, Dragon Challenge (no wait either), Then headed for Hulk. I rode with the kids once and then they rode alone once. Also walk on. Then we walked on the Popeye Bilge Rat ride and got soaked (but it was so fun!!) and waited about 20 minutes or more for Ripsaw Falls. I didn't like the whole "Splash ripoff" feel about it, but it was fun and we got completely soaked to the skin which was awesome in the heat. DD couldn't take it anymore so we skipped the Jurassic Park section and went for RRR. There was a posted 15 minute wait, which was more like 20, but whatever! DH again sat out. I was terrified!!! But we rode it and the kids (especially DD) loved it. Had lunch at Mel's diner and then on to the Simpsons! We are all huge Simpsons fans and I think that ride was my favorite. Oh, we also saw Shrek - posted 10 minute ride was really more like 20. Overall, that was a theme - I am used to the conservative ride time estimates that Disney posts and I'm not used to the underestimations at Universal... Then we rode Men in Black (15 minutes wait, maybe) and then DS was done like dinner. DD and I rode front row on the Mummy (also about 20 minute wait) and then headed out. Took a cab there and back (no idea why people use the Meers shuttle for families of 4 or over since it was $35 each way, not stopping, and there when you want!) Now we're toast. Kids went rig to SAB and I'm wondering if Teena is still in the lobby- couldn't meet her in my state coming out of the Dark side! Came back to a beautifully made up cool BC CL lagoon view room, hit the Club Lounge for the appetizers, wine and the melon shooters... YUM.

Tomorrow we have an ADR at Boma. hopefully the kids will be able to eat something there and we can see some animals! :thumbsup2. I had it down as a resort day and since I NEED to get back to MK for a Fantasyland do-over, I'm hoping the kid a are up for AK tomorrow morning! The other family was supposed to go back to Typhoon Lagoon today but they said they want to wait for us, but my kids don't want to go back! Oops. :(

Off to chill out with some American Netflix selections!!! LOL. Sorry to bore you with all of this. LOL

Martha's Vineyard (the bar at the BC inside near Cape May Cafe) opens at 5 PM.

Not boring me in the least, I love reading your updates!!! :)

I don't think either is a bad choice -- they are both lovely resorts. I like the decor at the BC -- it's really pretty! Hope you enjoy your trip! :goodvibes

mmmears, it took us a LONG time to get to B&C - had to wait until the timing worked out!

It was easier for me when my DD was really little, since we spent more time at the resort (nap time, rest time, pool time, etc.) Now that we are in the parks a little longer, it seems that B&C is much harder to get to... ;)

Feckless -- I love your updates! Please keep them coming if you find the time! :goodvibes

Good to know about the cab to Universal. Was the Harry Potter area crowded? I've heard it's so packed there sometimes you can't even get into the shops.

We debated giving up one night at the YC to go stay at US to get the FOTL pass, but it's just not something we really want to do. We keep thinking about going over there for the day, so it's nice to read about it.

ETA: I feel the same way about 'Ohana -- I think we go there for the apps and that amazing dessert!!! I hope you like Boma -- there should be plenty there for the kids (I remember always seeing fruits, salads, chicken nuggets and mac and cheese out on the buffet, plus breads and desserts). And save some time to enjoy AKL -- it's really a special place. :cloud9:

@ Feckless- thanks so much for your continued updates, the good, the bad and the Dark (side).

We had a similar reaction to 'Ohana. I hope you love Boma as much as our family does!

I'm sure I will enjoy it, but I hope DBF decides to come with me. He wouldn't really be doing the parks, I would; but it's nice to have time just hanging out with no work responsibilities. However, he didn't like WDW too much on his first trip (:() and since we're going to DL for my mom's birthday next year I can't imagine he'd want to do back-to-back trips like that. He did REALLY like ToT and TSMM, and RnRC, so if he's staying within walking distance to HS he might be swayed......:scratchin I already gave him all the pluses of coming with me this time; but I'll happily go by myself.

I, on the other hand, have gone twice in the past 7 months and if I could swing it I'd be heading down in May before the crowds show up. As it is, I'll have to wait the three months. Ugh. :crazy2:

Thanks for the updates Feckless.

Great to hear how much you are enjoying yourselves.

I also am enjoying the Feckless trip report. I am soaking up all these details like a sponge! Now I'm hooked on some of the trip report links that some of you have provided. Keep 'em coming!! Bigger is better! Leave no detail unreported....

DH is now driving me crazy since he discovered the Beach Club half of the Yacht Club. I think I am going to let him decide which one we stay at. As far as I'm concerned you can't go wrong with either one....

I did just the marathon in 2010. (I am not Goofy :thumbsup2) We decided on a split stay. We did Bay Lake Tower for race weekend then moved to BC for the week after. I wanted to be on a monorail for the early morning line up. The bad part was all of the monorail ramps!

Amy

After I finished the marathon this year, I took the bus back to GF because I couldn't get myself to the monorail ramps - much less UP them. :rotfl2:

:rotfl: I've stayed at both. IMO there are plusses and minuses to each of them, but they are both great and I'd happily stay at either one. I think it's just personal preference.

This thread has to be one of the most active on the boards, so you should have no problem satisfying your thirst for details.

I don't think you could go wrong no matter which side of the BC/YC you choose to stay on, so let your husband decide and that way he will think the trip is all his idea. ;)

Agreed! I posted a comparison a few pages back, and many others have experience with both, so if you have specific questions regarding the differences, please let us know!

Quick question: It looks like I'll probably be traveling solo for Marathon Weekend. I'm running the Goofy for the first time. Starting to think about room reservations for the weekend. I'm leaning towards YC (I love BC but I like the "adult" feeling I get at YC for the race weekend plus I think YC feels a little quieter). Anyone have experience getting to/from the races? Opinions?

Thanks!
Amanda

Hey Amanda,
We stayed at BCV's for the marathon relay this year. Staying there again in Janurary for the Half. The buses were great on Sunday. We pretty much walked right on. Saturday morning I went out and took pictures of the half marathon line. (I get up early and take pictures at WDW. What can I say!) It stretched all the way back across the bridge toward the BC lobby. But once the buses started coming it moved out pretty quick.

I think this pretty SOP. We stayed at SSR for the 2011 half and the lines were crazy long when we got to the bus stops. But once the buses started rolling in they moved us out and we were there in plenty of time.

Thanks for the report Feckless. You can 'bore us' anytime!

LOL I meant that I would not chip in my 2 cents and that he could decide between the two with out any input from me. I trust his judgement and we can plan the rest of the trip together... He is just really getting all caught up in the details of the two resorts. Thank God they share the same pool. That pool is his obsession! I may not be able to get him out of it!!!!

Wow, Mike, that photo is amazing! First, because it's just a great photo. (I'm tempted to ask for photography advice here.) But also because I'm surprised to see the line. We were there at the Poly for our youngest son's birthday (which just happened to be Marathon Weekend) in 2011. We're early risers, but not THAT early, and we had no idea of the pre-run activity at the resorts! Before kids, I was a very dedicated runner, and I still run a local race once per year, but hearing of the WDW races (1/2 marathon and ToT) I always think about getting back into it. Someday . . .

No problem on the jogging map. I post it on request. I don't know exactly where it came from so I am a little uncomfortable putting it up Page 1 without the proper authorization.

Dee,
I'm pretty sure this is the map they hand out at the resort desk when you request one. Maybe Teena could check to confirm?

Wow! Thanks for all of the great info. I'm really excited about my stay at Yacht club! We just booked a quickie 3 night trip for June. DH and I debated going to WDW in the summer bc I'll be 25 wks pregnant BUT we will be in Tampa for a family reunion anyway sooo.... we are going to surprise DD with a few nights :cool1:. I'm so excited. I can't WAIT to enjoy Stormalong bay with DD!
