Hi everyone! So it looks like Tropical Storm Irene might be affecting Florida toward the end of this week. To everyone else traveling this week - I'm sorry.:sad2: It's my fault. Bad weather follows me on almost every vacation.:sad2:
But, I am determined not to get upset, and just make the best of it - it's one rainy day, right?
So to all you Fay veterans out there - what's your advice for having a great time, even in the midst of a tropical storm?
Thanks!!!

Rain ponchos, flip flops, AK and DTD for dinner, and, of course, a sense of humor. Oops--don't forget the camera! We had a blast and boy did it pour. :scared1::scared1:The rain ran over our feet in DTD--think 2 inches at least. No lines--no waiting (except for the rain to stop):rotfl2::rotfl2:

Thanks natebenma and MickeyT for your help. One more question now! - how soon do the buses start running to get us to MK or AK rope drop?

I wish I knew! Ask a half-dozen CMs and you will get 6 different answers! There is supposed to be an early morning bus to take you to the parks in time for early breakfast reservations at Crystal Palace, Tusker House, Norway or Hollywood and Vine, but like Big Foot, I have never personally witnessed them, so I can't confirm that they exist.

I think a conservative estimate is 1 hour before park opening, so 7 am for an 8am EMH park and 8 am for a 9 am opening (but probably earlier than this)

We were staying at the Hard Rock Hotel in Universal during Hurricane Frances in 2004. The kids loved it (me not so much lol) because they missed the first day of school. I think if you bring rain gear and water proof shoes you should be fine. Thanks to this post I went through storage this morning and got out our Disney ponchos from old trips to bring with us when we leave in 8 days :)

So I got two questions; first I heard a counter service at the studios has wonderful cupcakes, where is this place and can you get the cupcakes on dinning plan?
Second, with my scooter and renting one for my DH we are going to be having to use Disney transpotation most of the time and we have never split of vacation between two hotels. Someone said bell service will transport lugage for us, how reliable is that? We are think of trying to take both scooters in the car to the next hotel and might not have room for lugage so how will that work?

Miss you all, and glad to be back! Please update our stay at BCV and the noodle swap to Dec. 20-22, please and thank you!

Heather

Heather bell services will move all of your items from one place to the other. We did this in Feb with our split stay between CSR and VWL. Call bell services about 20 mintues before you are going to head out of your room for the day. They came to our room right away and tagged our bags with the proper resort and took them. We got breakfast and traveled over to wilderness and checked in. By the time our room was ready our bags were there waiting for us. It was very easy so no worries.

My DD20 (will be 21 when we come next year) have decided to come back to the BC. We have gone back and forth over the last couple weeks, but we have decided to surprise our friends and stay here again. We were going to stay at POP. We will be there August 4-August 10th next year. Can't wait.

I'd like to hear from some folks who were at WDW during Charlie. Charlie is the one that really made a mess of Central Florida. My mom's ex was still living/working down there and, from what he said, that's the one that really was the eye-opener. No gas at local stations, no power for a while, etc. None of that stuff sounds that out-of-the-ordinary to us because we've done the hurricane thing a lot (Ivan w/our folks in south Alabama, Katrina at our house when we lived in Louisiana, and Ike at the house we currently live in...just to hit the ones that were the most adventure). I think doing a storm at Disney would be interesting just because we wouldn't have the benefit of our generators, window units, camp stoves, dozen 5-gallon gas cans, etc. It'd be a new routine.

For those who will be there, don't sweat it. The track the storm is on will likely not bring the crazy wind you have to run from. The location of WDW will make the storm-surge a non-issue. Think of it as an adventure. Go outside when you can, watch what Mother Nature can do, and take it all in...especially if you live where hurricanes & tropical storms are something you only see on television. I've lived in close proximity to the Gulf almost my entire life. Our rule of thumb is: Category 1 = fun to watch, probably will find a good place to get outside to feel it. Category 2 = fun to watch, probably won't be outside as much but still will go check it out. Category 3 and up = pack the car, we're out. :thumbsup2

Hey, just wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking for awhile. My son, DIL and myself will be at BC on 9/18 - 9/23. My son and I have been going to WDW and staying on site every other year since he was 3 (he's 30 now) but it's a first trip for my DIL. We've stayed at the GF, Poly, Contemp, Shades of Green, YC and BC. The last 5 or 6 trips have been either YC or BC (whichever we can get into). We love the resort with it's proximity to Epcot (our favorite park). I tried to upgrade to CL this year but it was full, we have a garden view and I have requested full balcony (at least for me). The kids have their own room and could care less but I get up early and love to sit outside and drink my tea. Usually, I get up and go running at least every other morning but since I'm getting a little older that won't happen this year, commando through the parks will be enough exercise. We don't plan anything, not even ADRs. Usually we go to CS in Epcot on the day we arrive and see what ADRs we can get where and that will loosely dictate what park we are in that day. We have booked the dessert thingy at MK this year and have booked Dive Quest. Usually we wait to book dive quest when we get there but didn't want DIL to miss it.
Whew, that was a long intro, sorry. I do have one or two questions. We have the food plan but I was wondering if an adult can get a child's meal. I don't eat a lot and sometimes it just way too much food for me, expecially the TS meals. Also, I'm thinking of going ahead and booking my fantasmic package but can't figure out if I can do that on line. I know I can book the ADR for Brown Derby but don't see if I can specify fantasmic for that.
Thanks all.:boat:

There's a thread on the Theme Park Strategies board where some people who were at WDW during Charley share their experiences. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2784151 Certainly not ideal, but sounds like Disney has their act together for situations like that.

We'll be traveling next August with my DD7 and my parents. Tentative plans are for 2 nights at BC before we move over to BLT for the rest of the week. Here's the question...are there connecting rooms at BC? Opening the door between our rooms makes for a much "homier" feel while we're all munching on bagels and coffee in the morning. Thanks in advance,

I've been very impressed with Disney's ability to handle the extreme weather. Not just hurricanes. The January trip we were there and it snowed --TWICE-- we had an early ADR at Tusker House. It was sooooo cool to see the giganto jet-engine-ish heaters set up warming the areas around the Oasis/entry area to keep all that vegetation from dying. Amazing! I have some pics...cool stuff.

I was on the Hurricane Preparedness Committee for the Sheriff's office I worked for prior to Katrina coming in and that bunch of good ol' boys wouldn't listen to anything a silly little communications girl had to say about how to take care of and provide for our personnel after the fact. It was very frustrating at the time. I got several "Boy, we shoulda listened to you" messages after, too. LOL! What impresses me is that Disney seems to have the capacity and a plan to take care of staff and guests before, during, and after the event. That is fully-awesome! And it's a huge reason why the hubby and I are even willing to book a WDW vacation and a DCL cruise during the height of horrible-cane season. :thumbsup2

I have spent time today reading the first pages.
We (DH and I) will be at the BCV from 10/16 - 10/21, please add us to the roll call.
Also I see a GAP for the Noodle Family during our stay.
I would like to request the honor :rotfl2: of entertaining them for these dates.
Thanks

Hi Heather-

So good to hear from you!!! I'm glad that your recovery is coming along, your family is really helping out and you are maintaining your grades!!!

Here is a link to the "Show Me the Cupcakes" thread
The first page has a few examples of the cupcakes from Starring Rolls- I believe this is the place in Hollywood Studios you are thinking of. They have a lot of (huge) sandwiches and I think you can get the cupcakes as either dessert or a snack, but check the menu listings to confirm. Or maybe someone who has been there can offer more info:

For the noodle swap- the following guests who are interested in entertaining the noodles in mid-December. Can the three of you work out a schedule and let us know.

sndral Dec 9-Dec 19,
Tinkerbell’s mama Dec 11- Dec 21 BC
heatherbabydoll1 Dec 20-22, BCV (DS 13th BD)

Thanks!

As far as switching resorts and luggage transfer- I have never done this, so I don't have any advice or info.

I can give the noodles to Heatherbabydoll on the 20th when she gets there. I will talk with sndral and see when we can do our swap:thumbsup2

That sounds perfect. We are planning pool day on the 20th. I hope that our room might be ready a little early. Plan is check out of POFQ, drive over get checked in. Eat lunch at beaches and cream (hopefully they will be open kinda early) maybe get in our room if possible and go swimming until later. We have dinner at Rose and Crown at 8pm so we are hopeing to get some afternoon swimming in.

We are looking at both BC and YC to stay at next year, is the Crew's Cup Lounge more of a sitdown resturant or can you get your food to go like Marketplace?

Yes, there are connecting rooms. We were given connecting rooms with balconies and the construction was going on outside, so we requested to move, and we were assigned rooms overlooking the quiet pool and they were also connecting. If you aren't assigned connecting when you check in, ask them and they will do their best to see that you get them. I can't say enough about how accomodating the staff was and the rooms are so beautiful!

Hi Christine! Crew's Cup Lounge has a few tables and a few continental breakfast items. So you could either grab and go or eat there, but it's not TS. We stopped by to take "inventory" at Crew's Cup in May and I know someone else took photos a little while later. At the time, it was bagels, donuts, fruit, coffee, etc. but the selection at BC Marketplace was better so we returned there for our breakfast. There is an outside seating area at BC Marketplace, but we took breakfast out to the beach! Hope that helps!

Hi Heather--Glad to hear you're feeling better!

We had lunch at Starring Rolls last year.....the sandwiches are huge! and so are the cupcakes! I think we could have easily split the sandwich and the cupcake. The cupcakes did work for dessert on the dining plan and I am pretty sure that you could also use a snack credit to purchase one. Last year we had the Peanut Butter Chocolate cupcake, which was so rich and scrumptious! I have the Red Velvet Cupcake in my sights for this year.......21 days to go!

DH and I used to live in Goose Creek, SC....he lived there for about 6 years and I lived there for about 2 years. We actually got married at a park in Goose Creek! After we got married, we knew that we needed to be closer to one of our families when we had children, so we headed north about a year later.

We're leaving in two days for BWI/3-night Dream/BC, so our situation is a little different. I knew this was a little risky, but we planned pool time on Tuesday and Typhoon Lagoon on Wednesday before boarding the Dream on Thursday. No problem if it rains for our parks visits - we just get out the ponchos and go! But for a non-parks visit . . . need a Plan B!

Thanks for the info on Starring Rolls. We have plans on eating at hollywood and vine for dinner and plaza later in the trip so I thought a counter service would be a good idea for breakfast/lunch. Not sure of all the available CS, wasn't to impressed with Pizza planet 4 years ago. We are on deluxe so I guess we will play it by ear.

We moved to Kentucky two years ago. My husband was born and raised in Charleston. He drove taxi cab there since he was 18, until two years ago. I moved from central Florida in 1996 to attend Charleston Southern University 1996. Well, fell in love, baby, and got my first apparment in Goose Creek over the following years we lived there, Monks Corner, and then St. Stephen. My mother and her husband bought a small home there this past May trying to get out of St. Stephen. Right around the new police station. You might be surprised how much it has grown up around there!

Thanks for shareing
