From 1991 - 2007 DVC members always received the new Point Charts sometime in September or October. In 2008 the Point Charts for 2010 were not released until January, 2009 and included a significant reallocation at every DVC resort - including BLT and GCV which were still months away from opening.

This is already at least the second latest release of the next Point Chart. Any guesses when we might see the 2011 Point Charts - and will there be another reallocation?

On another note - we should soon receive the proposed maintenance fee changes for each resort. Members usually receive those a few weeks prior to the annual meeting - which is now only about 4-5 weeks away.

Stay Tuned! :)

This annoys me more than things like valet parking and such. How are we supposed to plan? I just booked a trip for summer 2010. I had to borrow points from 2011 to book the trip. With no 2011 chart, I had to guess at how many points I'd need in 2011 to know how many I could borrow for the 2010 trip. Honestly, the charts for 2012 should be coming out now so owners can know what they'll need in 2012 before they book/borrow into 2011.

It's rediculous that the vacation planning chart from the back of last year's book has no 2010 calendar listed on the back. It's like DVC management has no idea how the system actually works.

I'm VERY nervous that the delay is related to the rumored online booking system. I'm wondering what changes are needed to the overall system to make it work with an online booking system.

I'd say with every day that passes, the odds get greater that more changes are coming for 2012.

Might not be too early to circle our calendars for a January 22-24, 2010 posting on DVCMember.com.

I am hoping the delay is because the Hawaii DVC will be opening in the fall of 2011. Hopefully they are sorting out the point structure at this new DVC location and they will leave the other point charts alone. :)

Just a guess but I doubt it has anything to do with on-line bookings. DVC contracted with a third-party vendor to create the web portal. When that sort of thing happens, the usual MO is to design a front-end system which will interface with the back-end processes already in place. DVC has a computer system for tracking points reservations--they just need to create a web overlay which will "talk" to the existing back end system.

To me, the delay implies that they are messing with the charts again.

I am just venturing a guess that they made the change to the 2010 charts and are seeing how those changes reflected into their bottom line, given the current state of the economy, and will adjust the 2011 charts accordingly.

My guess is that the charts will be changed again.

I have no doubt the charts are changing again, but I would think they would wait a year before making another change. Maybe let folks get used to the 2010 change and maybe see if it changes the way folks travel before they mess with it again.

Does anyone have an idea of what these potential changes will be?

I have a hunch that the peak/off season points will be evened out a bit...

As a prior poster mentioned, the delay in the release of the 2011 point charts may be due to the Ko Olina resort coming online in late 2011. Remember, though, that even if all of the point charts undergo another reallocation, there will be times when the point requirements will be less in 2011 than in 2010. So maybe it will be a positive change for some members. My philosophy is that I am an optimist today because it will only get worse tomorrow.

Nobody knows for certain what will happen. The 2010 reallocation caught us all off guard so this is all 100% speculation.

For 2010 the changes made were to adjust weekdays / weekends and there were some minor changes across different room sizes (i.e. raise the overall cost of a Studio a bit while lowering the cost of a One Bedroom.)

If there are more changes for 2011, I think they will adjust the calendar. No matter how you slice it, early-December is VERY under-priced in comparison to demand. You could argue that people visit in December because of the low points, but the entire reasoning behind the variable charts is to balance both elements--cost and demand. December is now popular enough that they can easily afford to raise the nightly costs and still achieve 100% occupancy.

IMO the periods most in need of adjustment are October and early-December (too low) while mid-April through mid-May & late-August are priced too high. DVC could just make a few adjustments while maintaining the current 5 seasons, or they could make radical changes across the board.

My guess? Jan 26, 11 months out from a trip starting Dec 26 and lasting seven nights with the seventh night on Jan 1.

Other guesses? Early Dec will go up as will all of October. Holiday periods or weekends will go down one point.

If DVD follows the same process as last year, we will get the new charts with substantial changes somewhere near the end of January and exactly a week after it announces a $5 per point price increase and a minimum add-on of 100 points so no one can add-on to alleviate any changes except at an exorbitant cost, and Czar Jim will tell us it was all done to "enhance the membership experience" and because so many members were asking for the changes.

Nothing like selling a product to a bunch of uber-planners than starting changing the rules/allocations every few years (as opposed to every 10 or so).

I think the reason for the delay is that they're trying to make sure that there's no possible way than anyone's point total could decrease and therefore allow them to sell points, but instead find a way to make every single stay more points, so that all existing owners need to do at least a 25 pt add-on :lmao:

Yes, I know that it's in the POS that they can do this, and I also know that the total point allocation cannot change.

But the thought of the allocations changing every 3 years or so is about as appealing as going to the Dentist's office weekly. I love haunted houses and scary movies, but something about those guys just gives me the willies :scared1:

I think that the studio vs. 1 bedroom ratio is out of line for the older resorts with a occupancy of 4. I know a 1 bedroom has 2 rooms and more amenities, but I don't think they are worth double the points. JMO.

Why would DVD go to all of the trouble re-allocating points last year to turn around and do it again a year later? Makes no sense. Whatever changes are being speculated, well they couldn't have included these last year?

They better not be doing another point reallocation unless it is to correct the imbalances they created last year. Totally blew my October planning and SSR contract out of whack.

Somehow I doubt MS is that dimwitted. Raising point requirements for existing stays while raising price per point in a jobless market is financial suicide. They're already giving people APs to buy AKV and GCV while cutting the pay for their greeters. Sales are hurting.

I'm gonna go with the idea that Ko Olina is throwing off the point charts. Maybe we can hope they'll shift costs better next time. I'd be happy with a point decrease on studios in May. That would put my SSR contract back into balance with Autumn.

It was all part of an experiment. Make the changes last year and see what happens on the DVC-related forums. Those that were silly enough to say "We go every year in the first week of March and our stay just went up 15 points and I think it stinks" will be further punished for this behavior by a further increase in that season in 2011 :lmao: Those who sat back and didn't make a fuss will be rewarded for not questioning authority.

I really want my VB points adjusted again then. Last adjustment took me right out of ever getting a beach cottage for 5 days. And another thing. What ever they do, I'm not buying anymore points!:cool2:
