2011 "Let the Memories Begin".....Thoughts?

It doesn't really do a whole lot for me, but for families who haven't visited the parks before, or in a long time I could see them getting somewhat excited about it.

I personally feel this campaign is targeted for those families who've never visited, or haven't visited in a very long time to come down to the parks and make memories. It's not meant for avid park goers like us. We're going with or without this campaign.

Eh. I'm disappointed. I thought there would be a big celebration for MK's 40th, Let the Memories begin is pretty generic and not very creative IMHO. DL's 50th was the Happiest Celebration on Earth, which I thought was pretty good, I was hoping on more focus on the 40th for next year. Maybe they will do that too? :confused3 Too early to tell, but the projection of pictures on the castle might be fun. I'm giving the Imagineers the benefit of the doubt on that one until at least until I see it.

To Be Honest with you guys, I dont really understand the whole concept of this years "Let the memories begin", so can anyone tell me what is invovled within the whole concept.... Thanks Jamie

I completely agree with you. My memories began 20 years ago. But I do see how it appeals to some families. I told my best friend about it after watching the "big announcement" (lame) and her eyes lit up as she started talking about taking her son (my adorable nephew Jayson!) for his first trip. I think I was a bit surprised at how obvious this campaign is targeting a specific demographic...

I was kind of disappointed in Let the Memories Begin. If they are displaying pictures of random park guests on the Castle, what exactly are the odds that your family will be featured? Won't it be kind of boring to watch pictures of a bunch of random strangers?

I will try to keep an open mind, but it sure doesn't sound like any Happiest Celebration on Earth. That was a cool theme.

This was my first response too, my daughter will be 1 in May 2011 and I feel like even though I have a million memories already, for our new family, the memories are just beginning.

Pretty lame (hope I don't offend). I GUESS it would be cool if your memory was turned into a commercial, but that is the only mentionable feature about the whole thing. Who has an interest of seeing OTHER people's photos displayed on the castle? And you have to wait through 499 others to see if yours is displayed? Meh! I COULD dig up a video from 1989 of my second trip to WDW that I have, or submit a story with pix about how I got engaged on the TTA... but it doesn't appear to be worth the effort, at least at this point. Oh well... we will see what happens.

I guess it depends on what your expectations are. And after Year(s) of a Million Dreams, many people have high expectations.

But when it comes down to it, this is a marketing campaign used for themeing their advertising to entice people to come to Disney. Again for the the first time. With that it mind, I think it is a good marketing campaign.

I am curious on what they do besides using it in their commercials. The website where you can upload your photos is a neat idea, but not spectacular. The projecting photos on the caste seems kinda lame.

I think it would be nice if they had some tie-in with Photopass. Maybe more photographers available, more "magical photos", and finally a reasonable rate on printing your pictures through Disney.

While this will never live up the excitement of Year(s) of a Million Dreams, at least it looks like it won't have the problems of the Give a Day, Get a Day where they ran out of the free tickets way early in the year.

I agree with this as well. I will be going on my honeymoon to WDW next year and while I have been 12 or so times in my 26 year lifetime, there will be a sense of a new set of memories beginning with my wife.

I think it's dumb, too.

I think my primary issue with the campaign is that it looks backwards. Which, understandably, is the point of their campaign, but enough already. Those of us who have been many, many times don’t have too much of an interest in seeing other people’s pictures in the parks while we are actually... in the parks. And those people who are first-timers don’t HAVE 40 years of memories.

I think I would have preferred something more theme-park forward like “Unfinished Business”. Let’s look at what’s going on in the parks in the NEXT 10, 20, 40 years, starting with Fantasyland expansion, Cars at DL, the new Art of Animation resort, the Hawaii resort, the expanded DCL routes, the new ABD to Egypt, etc. I want to know, as a consumer, what Disney thinks I should continue to spend my money on, not a reflection on what I’ve already experienced.

I'm kinda bummed that my first ever Xmas castle pictures are going to include a bunch of random no-bodies in it but hey, we will see.

I haven't been for some years and I suppose as next year I'll be going for my honeymoon it's kind of geared to me to start my new memories. But I'm not enticed by the campaign in the slightest so I don't think it's going to entice first timers

There are going to be people who don't want their face(s) plastered on the Castle...

I really wish they'd stop doing the meaningless "celebrations" and have them only when they mean something. They're missing a grand opportunity w/ the MK's 40th b-day.

I'm not 100% sure how I feel about the new concept. However, I did go on the disneyparks.com website and people are uploading their memories and I have to admit even though I have never met any of these people some of the stories are really touching. I love the castle as it is, but think of the thrill it would be for a disneyworld newbie to have their image flash by on the castle while they are enjoying their day. I think it is something they will truly remember forever.

I like the idea of the commercials using footage from actual people. I even think the website is kind of cool, but it's not a very exciting promotion, and I think the idea of seeing random people on the castle is dumb. I don't like anything that disrupts the look of the castle (except the Christmas lights.)
