2011 "Let the Memories Begin".....Thoughts?

Did everyone notice the clip of the video done by a DISer on one of the promos?? His was pretty famous for awhile and done to "Life is a Highway."

I'm not big on "floating" photos over the castle, but the other video effects are amazing!

I think the idea is pretty cool but not worth all the hype. Like many said, this will appeal to some people but to many it won't. They just made it seem like such a HUGE announcement was coming that it def. was disappointing to many. Thjey could have announced it in so many other ways.

I was pretty disappointed also. The theme just doesn't seem exciting to me and they'll drag it out for a couple of years. I loved year(s) of a million dreams and the celebrate theme was pretty good but like others said...this seems pretty lame. But, maybe there are some surprizes waiting in the wings. It is Disney and they usually make things magical.

OK. So maybe the slogan is kinda lame, but I do like the concept. Half of the magic in being at Disney is seeing the magic in other people's eyes. It makes my heart smile to see other peoples memories and their smiles, even if I don't know them personally. I'm glad that there is a place we can visit that truly makes everything "worth it" and makes memories like that; you know, those memories that only Disney can make...

I really do't have an issue with the photos on the castle. It doesn't seem to me that it is going to be an all day all night thing so all those who want to take a picure without the pictures should be able to do so. My impression is that it will be taking place at the time the Kiss Goodnight takes place now. I don't have a problem with the theme either. Our trips are all about making memories so it fits nicely with reasons whay we go to WDW. The Announcement though was anticlimatic to me because it just seemed like aside from the name of the theme and the whole pictures/vidoes that will be used there was really nothing new to hear and I really was expecting to hear something new.

As far as the 40th anniversary I thought that wouldnt take place until Oct2011 and run through Oct 2012 so this announcement doesnt cover the 40th anniversary celebrations should there be any.

Honestly, I was hoping for more. The Give a Day a Get a Day was an amazing concept. My students are still talking about service projects for Disney. Well let's hope this is not the only thing they are planning.

This will probably get me slammed.I am a little saddened to the response to the celebration. Some of the responses are showing a bit of entitlement and selfishness as in I do not care or want to see other people vacation photos or I
liked it when I got or got to do something like they did with a year of a million dreams and give a day get a day. When Walt built Disney it was for a children and there familys to come together and enjoy. We have gone away from that. My take on this celebration is a little tribute to what Disney was about magic moments and this is a way to share yours nothing fancy simple and to the point.

I think its a really sweet idea, I like the idea of the images projected tastefully on the castle during a nighttime show, I think this will make lots of people very teary. I know that I personally can look at photos taken of my sister and I in disneyland when we were little and remember every detail of what we were doing and how we were feeling when the photo was shot. And now that I am bringing my own kids, I do the same when I look at our disney photos. Photos are powerful - especially photos of your whole family, together, having fun in an unforgettable place like Disney. Its a heartwarming idea and while yes, Disney will be getting lots of free content, I am pretty sure the commercial content will all be freely given by those uploading their photos and choosing to give it to disney to use, so I don't have a problem with that at all.

Its not fireworks and giveaways, but it definitely speaks to the reason almost all of us choose to vacation at the Disney Parks - making remarkable memories...

I like it. :wizard:

I guess I am a sap because even before the announcement, I was looking at the Let the Memories Begin website and enjoyed looking at other people pictures and stories. Maybe I even got a little teary eyed. I think it's funny that people are saying no one wants to see a bunch of pictures of strangers. Ever hear of You Tube? The big announcement was rather underwhelming, I was expecting more, but I'm not shooting down the castle thing. I liked the video and it's hard to say how I'll really feel about it until I see it live for myself. I know me though and I'll probably love it.

I hated the Year of a Million Dreams promo. My dd was young when this came out. We visited WDW twice and didn't receive anything. I didn't care. But it is really hard to explain to a young child, especially when you see tons of people with those special "ears", fast past things hanging around their necks, etc.

I also think it's kinda sweet. We've been to WDW lots of times and will continue to go and there's not ONE trip that we don't remember fondly and have precious memories of.

So, the idea that going often colors that perception isn't true for all repeat visitors!

I'm guessing that you need to use a PhotoPass photog in order to get your pic on the castle? Count us out......:rotfl:
