2011 Expo

I just finished making my final reservation (4 nights) there on points! :cool1:

Hilton Anaheim
777 Convention Way
Anaheim, California
92802
1-714-750-4321

This is the absolute closest hotel with the Marriott being a couple hundred feet farther away.

Thanks! My dive hotel went up..sooo..

The Hilton is sold out of AAA rates :sad2:

The regular rates are quite a bit!! In fact, most of the hotels' rates in the general are upped quite a bit from the week before. argh.

I know folks say to get a hotel close to the convention center, but I honestly see myself ending up at DL or DCA every night. So I booked myself at PP, and the cost for 4 nights was only $90 more (for the trip, not per night) than booking the Hilton by the convention center (I got a 10% discount with AAA).

Anybody know if the special packages are gone? I know Sorceror was gone by the time I got my Premiere pass.

Every night they had a panel and movie screening. I believe that they were all movies that you would not see anywhere else. The last night they showed TS and TS2 in 3D so attendees got to see it two or three weeks before it was realeased in the theaters. One of the reasons that are staying is so that we can see some of these movies. I just checked my guide book and some nights there was one a 7 and a second one at 10PM.

Makes sense for you, seeing you live in CA. I live in NY, so for me, going to the parks holds a bigger draw than watching a movie. The Disney movies celebrating their 50th anniversary next year include 101 Dalmatians, The Parent Trap, and The Absent Minded Professor. For me, none of those movies hold much interest that I'd give up a night at the parks. Then again, they may show something different. Gotta play it by ear, I guess. :goodvibes

I think I agree. :thumbsup2 Unless there is a preview of a movie not released yet, ;) I'd rather hit the parks...problem is the ticket prices. I'm not sure I can pay $75 for a couple of hours in the parks...wonder if they would consider a special "Expo Evening Ticket". Good from like 4pm to close. (I say 4pm so we can go to the restaurants in the parks...YUM! :yay:) Think Disney would let us vote on this?

One film they showed at 7 pm at the last Expo was The Boys: the Sherman Brothers Story. In addition to the film, which will finally be released on DVD this November, the presentation included the producers (sons of both Dick and Bob Sherman), guitarists featured on a Sherman brothers music compilation DVD and Dick Sherman on piano. A great evening!

The Fifty and Fabulous films were shown at 10 pm. We were back at the hotel by then, so we could be back at Expo by 8 the next morning.

If you really want to experience DL, I would schedule at least 2 more non- Expo days in Anaheim. -- Suzanne

We felt that way too until we heard that Richard Sherman popped up during an event and played and chatted...anyway..the draw of the parks is certainly valid, especially for those who don't normally go to DLR. I just know that this time I don't have plans to actually attend DLR during the EXPO (now before or after is a different story :) )

They did offer a Twilight Park ticket or something like that last year..I think was for after 4:00 pm till close..

Twilight tickets...AWESOME!!! This is exciting.

OK...next important topic...

I hear LAX is a nightmare when it comes to security. Has anyone flown into Orange County/John Wayne airport? How was this experience? Are there any other airports we should be looking at?

LAX isn't that bad, I fly out of there whenever I go to Orlando and most other places, although I haven't been anywhere else for three years or so. But if you can get a convenient flight into SNA (Orange County), go for it, that airport is a breeze. The only thing is that they close at 11PM. We had a flight out of Chicago that was delayed several hours (while we were on the tarmac) and had to be diverted to LAX. We would have had to take a bus to SNA, but a friend picked us up and took us home and we went and retrieved our vehicle at 3AM. If you have a late arrival, there is a risk of being diverted.

Thank you very much for the info. I put my sister in charge of flights, so I will make sure that she knows about the time limits at SNA. I'm sure with this info, we can arrange plenty of time in case of problems.

Hey folks!

I was curious how many of us there really were that were planning on going to either the Expo or Destination-D so I posted a poll.

There's a bunch of options, I think I covered them all. I'm curious how many Sorcerer's and Premier packages we have here because there seems to be a lot in this thread or maybe I'm just mistaken.

Thanks!

I did your poll and also asked on that thread if there might be plans for a Dismeet. Just thought I would ask here as well! :)
