Hi all! I wanted to share a little something off the YC/BC topic tonight. Over the past month I have been reading this board and getting excited about our first trip to the BCV and surprising my 13 year old. Tonight I had a blessing beyond miracles I wanted to share for all of those I have been praying for and all of those who might need a little encouragement.
Two years ago my family moved from a little town outside of Charleston,SC called St. Stephen, SC to Kentucky. It was not an easy move but we felt God was leading us away. My mother and her husband and my two best friends still live there. Tonight I was out celebrating a day early with my husband our 12th anniversary talking about our trip and even talking to the table next to us about their upcoming first trip, when my cell phone rang. It was my best friend Valerie. She was crying and shaking, tornados Heather tornados and then the phone went dead. Here I was several states away and I felt my world end. See shortly after I left the house next to my girlfriend's house to the left of her caught fire. Tonight a tornado took the house to the right of her. My mother lives a street behind her and my other friend lives a street in front of her. The tornado took a church on the main road in front of my mother's house, skipped her house she is renting (but closing on a nother house in a near by city in a few weeks) cut a path through trees and a field in I diagonal, hit the house next to my girlfriend's home, continued cutting a path through the field across the street heading for my other best friend's home and then lefted up back into the sky and touched down in the forest 5 miles down the road. When I got back in touch with my friends and mother, I can not tell you how wonderful their voices sounded! God blessed my family and friends beyond belief tonight! Others lost there place of worship and homes but not lives in this little town.
My best friend says when she goes to sell she is going to put in the ad "This house is wrapped up in God's hands"
For those who pray please send some prayers towards St. Stephen, SC tonight and the other places that where hit with these storms.
Thanks for my little interruption. Here are some pictures of the house just to the right of my girlfriends house and the church that was leveled.

Thanks for sharing your story, Heather. What a relief to hear that your family and friends are ok, and no lives were lost in "your" town!

Wow ... so glad your family and friends were spared!!!!!

I have never done a trip report, so I don't know the rules of the trip report board, but I see that Dee's trip report is in the "concluded trip reports" section and we can no longer post there. So we loved Dee's trip report and understand that it must end, but we're left hanging on the July issue! So Dee, what did you and Mark decide???

That was my first TR and I didn't realize that asking for it to be moved to the "Completed" section would prevent others from posting! Silly me!

So you are the last official poster on the thread.

Shameless plug- If you want to see what it is like to tour the Disney parks in the summer with the energizer bunny, this is the report for you! Click on the link in my signature.

OK, and now for the confessional, since pixarmom has mentioned it.

Forgive me Beachers, for I have sinned!

I have booked a trip to "The Other Orlando". We were not planning on going to Florida at all this summer. But I am a huge Harry Potter fan and our family has never been to US. We really love marine creatures and it has been 7 years since a visit to Sea World. So we have have a 5 day/4 night stay at the Portofino Bay Hotel at US to take advantage of the early entry and Front of the Line privileges at US/IOA, and we will be getting two-day tickets to Sea World.

We booked our trip, told the kids, and they said "But why aren't we going to Disney?" Sound familiar, creativeamanda? Actually, Mark is the one really pushing for a visit to the MK, since we will be "so close".

So on my TR, I asked should we or shouldn't we- Mark and I have decided that I will research all of the transportation options (we are not currently planning to rent a car), I have checked into the park hours for those days, and I am charging up my Disney Visa like there is no tomorrow in case we need to purchase 4 one-day tickets. We will not decide until we get there, but will be fully prepared with all of our options to spend a night at the Magic Kingdom during our visit.

So pixarmom- to answer your question way back when- we will decide when we get there, we are not telling the boys we are considering this so it will be surprise to them.

BTW for anyone who is concerned about me springing the news like this- Teena knows about the trip, and she will probably be in Vegas while during the time we are in Orlando.

phew! that feels better! Ticker coming soon.

The buildings can be rebuilt.

Thank goodness everyone is OK.

I'll keep all those effected in my prayers.

Um excuse me missy! I have the Pirate arriving on the 21st! We may not know Jeanne's due date but you know how those first borns hang on to the ribs for dear life in an effort to delay being born!

You tell that Jeanne that she is just going to have to keep her legs crossed until the 21st!

~MM

Opps, I guess we have to close the contest!! Jeanne has been told she has to have a scheduled C-Section. Of course, we don't know the date yet but if all sonograms keep coming out the same and things progress like they have so far, her doctor said they will schedule the C-Section for one week before what they decide is her due date (to avoid her going into labor). So, when Southwest slashed their airfares due to the hole in the ceiling of the plane, I booked my June trip, mine and Bob's Peanut trip (July) and my August/September trip out there. I can always change them if the OB/GYN changes the due date and hence the scheduled C-Section date, but if all stays on the course it is going on now, Jeanne thinks Peanut will be arriving on 7/11. And for the record, Bob thinks (he says he is absolutely sure) it's a girl. I think it's a boy. If I could push a button and pick, I'd pick a girl because I would love to buy each and every princess dress made!!!!!

I'm hoping to be able to set up a "Mini Dis Meet" like we had last year.
If you look at page 1 you'll see a picture of it. Dee (Natebenma) wasn't there for our meet, she was there a few weeks earlier, but she was there in spirit with the "Flat Dee". She cracked me up!

Sounds like fun! Count me in :thumbsup2

I'll be back in Orlando on 7/21 and will be at work that following Sunday and Monday (7/24 and 7/25) so if you have it at 6 PM I could be there too.

Sounds like a plan! Teena I thought you'd be gone the whole time we are there so this really is great news!

July 24 is our Spa Day, but July 25th is a go for me.

So let's say July 25th, 6:00, Mini Dis Meet at the BC Solarium! So far is looks like me, Teena and
DisMom72!
Who's in?

We are driving, too- from Erie,PA. On the way down we need to do a detour to Gettysburg, PA to drop our dog off at my in-laws. Then from there we drive on I-95 to Santee, SC, where we overnight. Then it's a little less than a 6 hour drive to Orlando.

Unfortunately, on the way back we are driving all the way back to Erie in one day. My DS10 won a math competition and the regional competition was scheduled for our last travel day. I hate to break his heart by missing it. Who knows when we will get back to pick up our dog!

I was thinking of flying home with him and letting DH drive back with DD7 and DS4. DH didn't want any parts of that!

Small world! My in-laws live outside of Gettysburg. They leave in the homes at Penn National, Fayetteville, PA!

Honestly, I don't mind the drive straight down on the way there. I don't know whether it's the adrenaline of can't wait to get there or not, but for us we like it better than stopping!

Where in PA are you from? I see you city listed, but I don't know where that is near. We are just east of Pittsburgh. We are driving in August, unless I give in like last year and get air tickets.;)

We live in southern York county. Pretty much on the MD/PA line. We're about an hour south of Harrisburg and about an hour north of Baltimore. It's a solid 14-15 hour trip. We pack drinks and snacks and only stop for gas and potty breaks! Pittsburgh to Orlando must be a heck of drive! How long does it take you?

Dee - we've done Universal twice and one thing I love is FOTL access! We stayed at the Hard Rock both times and FOTL access can't be beat in the summer! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.

What are your dates? Any chance you'll be around on 7/25? Teena is back home that day and I'm trying to arrange a Mini-Meet like last time. It would be great to have you there in person, or will we have to make due with "Flat Dee again"?

Our dates are July 11-15, so I will miss the meet and Teena!!! :sad1:

However, here is my plan B:

Maybe I could stow away in Janetmom and Marlton Mom's housekeeping closet until July 25. Sounds like they will have oatmeal, chips and dip, Kahlua and internet access. I'll bring the coffee maker!

Thank you!

Sorry we'll miss you again! It's funny because we actually arrive in Orlando on the 13th (staying at Buena Vista Palace the first night because we probably won't get there until 3 or 4:00 in the afternoon), then we'll be at the Poly on the 14th and 15th. If you should somehow make it over to MK one of those two days let me know and we'll have our own teeny mini Dis Meet!

Unfortunately we check out the morning of the 25th :headache: We're there from 7/16 - 7/25. Hey, maybe that's and excuse to talk DH into an extra night :thumbsup2

I know it will take us 18 hours to Erie, PA and we are 2 hours north of Pittsburgh. So, Orlando to Pittsburgh would be around 16 hours.

It'll be a tough I'm sure at some points but usually I just want to get home and I hate the stay overnight when we break the trip up. I'll just try to have Disney dreams while napping to make the time go by!

If we go to MK it would be either Wed Jul 13 or Thurs July 14- so as our trips get closer we can exchange cell numbers if we think it will work out!

We do the same thing!

Tell your DH it is MANDATORY for you to be at the meet! Any excuse for an extra day right? Here's a trick I've used. I tell DH that I will downgrade from BC CL to a standard BC room for the last night since we will be leaving early to start our drive. You have CL privileges until midnight anyway, so you'll have full use of the CL lounge that whole last day, even though you will be a standard room! Makes the pitch so much easier if they think they are "saving money". You've got to love Disney math!
