Welcome back Robyn.
Glad you had a wonderful trip. I love the way you describe it as a great trip even after daughters accident, rude airline, rude guest etc......It is all about attitude and sounds like you have a great one (unlike Mr Used Paper Man :headache:who probably leads a pretty miserable life).

Hi everyone!!!

Newbie here. I lurked on the previous thread a few months ago right after booking our trip, then my Disney planning fell off the map with end of school stuff, summer activities, etc. Now that I am less than two months away I've gotten back into the fun!

We'll be heading to BC 9/25-10/3 with DH :cool2:, DS9 :cool1:, DD7 princess: and DS3 pirate:. I write this here b/c darned if I can figure out the timeline/signature thing, even though I'm not horrible on the computer. :surfweb: My computer tends to temperamental, though, so...

I love reading everyone's interaction with Teena - how kind of you, Teena, to spend the time online answering questions and caring about your flock! Hope to see you at some point in our stay.

So many questions, please bear with me...I'm excited to finally be jumping in! I hope I can keep up over the upcoming weeks, but so busy with life in general...

We are arriving on Saturday midday. I was wondering about the evening campfire/singalong at 6:30. Does this happen every night? What does it involve? The movie is at 9:00, correct? There are no fireworks at MK that night, which was my original plan :sad1:, but Illuminations is over at Epcot every night, so that might be a possibility as well.

Also...we've booked a standard view room. I'm accepting of having one if that's what we get, but I keep reading about possible upgrades. I know late September is one of the slower times of year at WDW - does that increase chances of an upgrade? I'm not at all trying to be a cheapie here - I guess I just think it might be silly to pay for it if there's a good chance of getting it anyway based on availability. How do you approach the subject with the CM at the desk - can anyone describe exactly what they said/did?

I know it's not guaranteed, and the only way to guarantee it would be to book it - but just thought I'd ask about it! ;)

I am SO looking forward to staying at the BC. This is our first trip to WDW, but a few years ago when I was pregnant with DS3, we were at another hotel in Orlando and went over to the Boardwalk for a while. I fell in love with that whole area, and never forgot the giant Pirate Ship at the BC/YC. I said to my husband, if we ever come here, I want to stay THERE, it's SO my style! Love the Cape Cod cottagey feel. And here we come...look out!

OK, I have edited the list for guests who will be there next weekend.

Two possibilities for a meet would be Sat Aug 21 or Sun Aug 22, 5:30 to 6:30. Teena works until 6 PM on both of those days.

Reply to the message if you are pretty sure you would attend if a meet was set up. Please don't respond if you are unable to make it on either of those days. Obviously, even if you are not on the list, you can reply if you would attend.

Deadline to respond: Thursday August 19

For example:

Flat Dee- I would attend either 8/21 or 8/22

JoePoster: Can attend only 8/22.

If there is enough interest (say 4 responses plus Teena) on either of those days, lets set something up.

scooterpej: either day is fine for us 8/21 7:45 at Cali Grill; 8/22 birthday Cape May

It's so today I've switched to the BC CL for next November (ages away but at least I can look forward to it).

Lol i'm with you on the ages away!! I book Thanksgiving week 2011 today!!! We are so excited DD and I. We have never stayed at Y/B Club before and are staying there in October. I just know that DD and I are going to love it so I booked it for November 2011 (hope we love it in October now)!!

Welcome back Robyn!! Glad your family had a great trip! A few bumps are ok when your at the happiest place in the world!!

~Nannette

We're back!!!!!

Well we're back from our marathon Disney vacation!

It was wonderful. You know how some people post the good, the bad and the ugly about their Disney vacations? Well in all honestly there wasn't any bad or ugly! (although 2 scary parts).

As everyone knows our whole planning was a nightmare. Air Tran was the biggest part of the nightmare and they kept true to form. The day before we were leaving DH kept trying to check in to print our boarding passes and check in our luggage. The system was down - it would let you get so far and then a message would come up to try later the system was down. Even when we got to the airport hotel that night DH tried one more time. We figured we would just leave a little earlier and do it the next morning. We took the 4:45 am shuttle over and were in the airport by 5:00 am.

Now the nightmare part - apparently (and lots of people were having similar problems) when we tried to check in the day before it recorded the luggage as being six pieces for one person instead of 1 piece for 4 and 2 pieces for the 5th. So the luggage fees were more than doubled. They acknowledged the system had problems but said there was nothing they could do. Dh asked to speak to a manager. This was at 5 am - we had a 7 am flight. We waited for over an hour and a half and they kept telling us the manager was busy. Finally at 6:40 am Dh said fine just charge it and we'll dispute it with the credit card company when we get home. It seemed like lots of people were doing the same thing so I wonder if a manager was ever really going to show at all. We got to the plane at 6:50 and the employee at the gate told us "well you really should have been here earlier". I thought DH's head was going to blow - I told her we had been there since 5 but because Air Tran's system was down everyone was having problems. The employee denied the system was ever down! Fine - whatever - just get me on that plane! We made it with about 2 minutes to spare - so the kids didn't have any breakfast (as we usually buy something at the counter service place right before we board). I'm really hoping that everyone who reads this will make a vow NEVER TO FLY AIR TRAN!!!!!

Anyway after that not so magical start the rest of the trip made up for it.

We were able to board the ME bus about 5 minutes after we got the ME line. It was a different route this time. Boardwalk, YC, BC and then POR. Every other time we've used ME it was CBR, BW, YC and BC.

We had a great gv cl room - 5682. It overlooked the back courtyard and had a wonderful view of the Boardwak and lagoon! I sat out there many mornings while DH was running and it was so relaxing and I thanked our lucky stars that we hit the jackpot of gv cl rooms!

CL offerings were fantastic!
I'm sure I'll forget some but this is what I remember:

Breakfast: oatmeal (with lots of toppings) fresh fruit - cut up and whole, bagels, croissants, specialty bread, pastry, muffins, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, cereal and juices and coffee.

Snacks: soda,s lemonade, cranberry juice, water, yogurt covered raisins, trail mix, homemade chips and dip, gummy worms or sweedish fish, three different kinds of cookies.

Evening appetizers: Here's where we really noticed an improvements: 2 hots foods (such as chicken skewers, crab ragoons, bacon wrapped scallops, mini egg rolls, potstickers, duck quesedillas), two cold appetizers (such as lobster salad, shrimp salad, tuna tartare, rice salad, olive salad, tomatoes and mozzarella), cheese and crackers, small rye bread - two dips usually tomato pesto spread and a hummus, small rolls, little peanut butter and jelly cups, vegetables and dip. Beer - wine - soda, etc.

Desserts - we didn't really utilized the dessert offerings and that is the only thing that I thought looked a little skimpy. DD loved the oreo bonbons though and ds loved the mini cupcakes. It looked like two or three mini desserts, cookies, cordials, soda, etc.

We had wonderful service from all the cms'. BC CL staff was fabulous - mousekeeping really was wonderful. We had a super nice mousekeeper, Gloria, who did turndown for us most of the nice and she was so nice. She would knock on the door around 5:00 and ask us what time we wanted turn down service. We never lacked for any toiletries and she kept us supplied in chocolates! Everything was super clean and in all honesty I never saw one cm who wasn't smiling and just into the whole Disney spirit!

Here's the scary part - The one day we were sleeping in we were awakened by the smoke detectors going off and an announcement saying there was a fire in the building the to proceed to the nearest exit and not to use the elevators. It was really scary. I got the kids and Dh up and we left so quickly one dd didn't even have shoes on and DH had shorts, but no shirt. My heart was really racing. It appears there was a small fire, no where near our room, but it makes you realize that quickly things can happen. I will definitely be paying more attention in the future to where our nearest exit is and to have a better plan than me standing in the middle of the room screaming fire, fire, fire, get up, get up , get up!

The other scary part for me (who is petrified of snakes) was seeing two water moccasins in the lake when we were on the boat to DHS (not hear us but still creepy) and seeing a black racer snake right in front of walking from the International Gateway to BC.

One of the best part of the trip was our Disser meet! I haven't gone back and ready the end of the old thread or the start of the new one (too much laundry today), but I'm sure you guys heard all about it. It was so good to be able to put faces to names! Natebenma - what a hoot with your flat Stanley! jjohnson so sorry you couldn't make it since you put the time into organizing the meet.

We were lucky enough to see Teena a lot on our trip since she was working extra days.

16 nights/17 days seemed like such a long time before we went but it flew by!
We'll be back in February for a week but we all agreed we wanted to do the really long summer trip again on 2011!

Any questions?

So glad to hear you had a wonderful time. I am so freaked out to hear your snake sightings especially after reading another post about some boy being bitten at wdw a while ago. I know it's rare but it still freaks me out.

Jill

Uh oh - anyone know the phone number of the Lost and Found at BC. I have to recheck everything I unpacked but I think I left some of the kids clothes either in the room or at the laundry. Teena - (or anyone else who knows) do you know who I call?

Thanks it's always something!

Also I forgot to add - we debated back and forth ddp no ddp. We always had the dining plan but now that the two dd's are "Disney adults" we decided to go with the TIW. DH kept all the receipts and just went through them - and ta da - staying 16 nights we saved over $1500 using TIW!

I have never stayed at BC either. We are booked in March of 2011 for Spring Break. But I am sure that you and your family will have a wonderful time. It is really right in the middle of things and tons to keep you busy. Here is thread that I found with pictures of the resort. Enjoy!!! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1735844

I am curious to know how far of a walk it is from BCV to Boardwalk?

It wasn't really a false alarm. There was no fire but an electrical panel behind some wall or something set it off. It could have been serious had an alarm not gone off and they found what it was. We do not ever have drills where guests are evacuated. So if an alarm goes off, leave immediately ... it is not a drill. Something is definitely wrong. Thank goodness it turned out okay.

Something similar happened six months ago but during the day. People wouldn't leave that were checking in ... I was screaming "IT IS NOT A DRILL ... IT IS REAL."

During the time I've been there (6+ years), while I was working nobody set off an alarm as a prank. The two times the alarms did go off it was because something was wrong. Obviously the system is working correctly.

We have to evacuate in cases like this ... totally for the safety of the guests.

I've been evacuated from a large hotel in Las Vegas once. That was very scary.
We were at YC during this alarm--we also went through one in the wee hrs a couple of years ago caused by a drunk pulling the alarm. We were on the 14th floor of a hotel in DC for that one.

I'm simply amazed the amount of people that took the time to get dressed and put on makeup, etc. One woman who was still trying to come down even though we had been told we could reenter said that she was putting on clothes--I told her what was more important--Clothes or your life??:confused3 You just go--you never know...

Didn't make it for the meet--too busy in the parks.

I don't know if all CL would do this or if it was just YC CL, but our entire family of 4 needs to be gluten free. The chef at YC said that since we were paying for CL and that most food was not safe for us that we could have food delivered to our room. Every morning we had gluten free Mickey waffles and gluten free brownies delivered. We still went to club for our drinks, but it was so wonderful to not have to worry about safe options for us. We even were able to partake of most evening appetizers--oysters on the half shell, tuna, chicken skewers, lobster salad, fruit, veggies. More than enough to make us happy. On the last day there, one of the life guards checking SAB asked my DD if she was enjoying the wonderful cookies in club--she said she wasn't because of the gluten and he let her know about asking for the gluten free version. She went upstairs and asked for some and Pete immediately found her a plate full--wish we'd have done that earlier in the week--they were very yummy.

YC also started 24 hr service on the 11th--very nice to have a cold drink at midnight. I remarked to one of the concierges that they should put out fruit for this. Like us, for example, we couldn't eat anything but the gummies. She said she'd let management know because fruit would be especially welcome for people catching early flights. When we got back from the parks that afternoon, she had left a huge fruit basket--we couldn't even begin to eat it all and took it on the plane with us--came in particularly handy when our flight was delayed.:goodvibes

I would definitely do CL again in a heartbeat.

So nice (I think) to enjoy the gym after hours, too. DD16 who runs cross country didn't think walking in the parks was enough; so, every day, she'd drag me, her poor old mum with her to the gym for another 3 miles on the elliptical.:confused3 The sauna in there was much hotter than in SAB and to be able to put my feet in there when the SAB was closed was wonderful.

Lost and Found at Walt Disney World
Tel: (407) 824-4245 between 9am and 7pm local time

Is there a specific one at BC- does the stuff remain at BC L&F forever or does it go to central at some point???

Phone number for Beach Club according to the FAQ: (407) 934-8000
They could probably transfer you to the right place

Tyry and Disneyand me, just wanted to let you know that we had a fabulous view of the EPCOT fireworks and a full balcony in our standard room in March. We didn't have any requests on our reservation - that's just what we got. I know it's not good to request a specific room, but just for reference, it was 3512 - right near the exit that's closest to EPCOT. It was absolutely amazing. Could hear the music clear as day and those fireworks were just right there! I'm thinking that this may now be a garden view room, though, because we overlooked trees.

Thanks Pixarmom - so I'm thinking of just wording my request as Epcot side...would that make sense?

That's great! :thumbsup2 DH and I always use the TIW now and for just the two of us we usually save few hundred dollars over using the DDP.

Tables in Wonderland card. If you buy an annual pass you can buy the TIW card which gives you 20% off ts meals. The 18% gratuity is then automatically included. I figures we paid $70 or $75 (I can't remember which) for all the tips of all the ts meals we at in 17 days. Plus we'll use it in February and next July too!

I was wondering what was up with some of the guests too! Believe me with three kids to get out (and DH who was in a deep sleep and didn't figure out what I was yelling right away) the last thing I thought about was make-up or how we looked. I grabbed the kids, my flip flops and my purse. Funny thing was all our money and gifts cards and such were in the safe so I don't know why I grabbed my purse - just force of habit!

YC and BC both seem to be completely booked for our visit.

Luckily we did book our room long ago, but were hoping to upgrade to a waterview, but there are not any available. I was just wondering if it is just crazy at BC when the resort is booked out?

I am a little worried that it will be so busy that we will never get a spot by the pool and it will be crazy busy.

We are going first two weeks of October and am thinking of moving to BWI for part of the trip (maybe a week at BC and a week at BWI) as BWI seems to have lots of rooms and the pool may not be as busy (my DS is really excited about the pool, but does like the look of both pools).

How is the BC when all of the rooms are booked out?

I will be arriving at the BC on 9/25 and it is completely booked for my week as well. I'm not worried about it since SAB is so big and quite sure it can accommodate alot of people. Have a great trip!

Michelle,

It looks like we'll be at the beach club at the same time. I personally would never ask for an upgrade and I think most upgrades happen out of necessity (no more standard rooms left so you are upgraded to WV or CL). I have been trying to change my reservation to CL for weeks now with no success. I plan to ask when I arrive if I can pay to upgrade my reservation to CL. I really don't expect to be able to since it looks like the BC is totally sold out during our week. I would also need two adjoining rooms so I know that decreases my chances of getting CL as well. Good luck with the rest of your planning and I'll see you at SAB:yay:

TIW is wonderful! We used it in March and July, and we'll use it again next February, too! We also have two pre-teen "Disney adults"(in addition to our pre-schooler) and it's a great deal for us.

Robyn, what are your February dates? Also, we did not stay CL last time, but the concierge desk at BC (Sara) was amazing and found my son's missing sorcerer's hat. I e-mailed guest communications about how wonderful she was - if there is a way to find your things, I bet they will!

TyRy - I wish I could help more, but I don't have much experience with specific requests. We asked for "full balcony, please" on our July reservation and upcoming February reservation, but I'm not sure about anything else. I bet someone here has a good suggestion!

P.S. Although we usually eat breakfast in our room, we got a 7:30am ADR at Cape May for the last day of our trip in February. (I haven't been to a TS Disney breakfast for almost 20 years!) I assured our oldest son that we could eat quickly and dash to DHS for a 9am rope drop! He's not a breakfast fan, and does not like to miss park time, but was interested in the possibility of "made-to-order" omelettes - allears says they have those, but some reviews say they don't. Does anyone know?

I just upgraded from a water view to garden view CL at YC. At the worst, what will I see from the balcony?:confused3. I could not turn the upgrade down, the rate I was given today was close to ridiculous so I "had" to change room views and take it.

Just booked for 2011!! I changed my dates to Sept 18th-23rd to take advantage of free dining! We were going to go without the DDP, but since it's free we figured why not? And there are a few TS and character breakfasts I would like to try. Now if only my ticker would start moving. . .

Our dates are 2/15 to 2/22. My girls are baton twirlers and are competing in Twirlmania over at the EPSN Wide World of Sports. I haven't even made our room reservation yet because my in-laws are coming with us and I have to see if any of the specials would help them. We have APs so are hoping for a nice AP discount for our room. I think we're going to stay at YC on this trip. My in-laws prefer YC over BC (the horror!) and since they only come every fews years I think I can deal with YC over BC for one week!
