2010 reservations and qualifying stay

For my dates in Sept, AAA rate is actually $30 more per night than the Florida resident rate.

That's not too bad. The $60 extra for my dates in August is just too much. So for two nights that doesn't make it worth my while since the $100 platinum food and beverage bonus won't be enough. I'm hoping that the APH/FL rate upgrade thingy holds for August and that it isn't just starting in September!

Uhm, er - slight thread hijack

What if say a friend, that thought they were a blue status on Loews, ah, called to inquire about staying a couple of days this coming year, and the booking agent informed them that they were uh, platinum. Lets say this friend was confused, as they did do a very big stay at the hardrock with a couple of rooms concierge-- and wondered if they made platinum from this stay.

What if the booking agent then booked you a Portofino 1 bedroom suite for the price of 179 a night (APH Garden View rate):rolleyes1. And, said booking agent sent a confirmation email detailing this room and rate, even after the friend stated a couple of times being shocked at being platinum, and asking said agent if they were sure.

And, uhm, the friend, after doing the big happy jig, decided to look up the new loews criteria, and then realizes that Hard Rock certainly does not qualify, and there is no way they could be platinum. And then they look on the loews site, and see that they are indeed blue.:scared1:

Anyone have any experience with this? I have wisely informed my friend NOT to tell the kids, as the room upgrade may not happen - as they were obviously 'blue'. I also uh, advised to bring a printed copy of the email to the hotel though.... but I was wondering, how did this happen, and has it happened to anyone else - and what was the result. Do you think they would honor the room upgrade anyway? How could the phone agent be wrong? especially as they were asked to double check the loews status, because, ah, my friend was confused by being platinum?

Slinking off, and hoping for some replies on this....

BTW, I tacked this question on to this thread because someone was asking about suite upgrades with aph's -- and it certainly appeared as if this TM could do it -- a garden room aph rate upgraded to a one bedroom....

Call the You First number again and get the status clarified. Sometimes the YouFirst Loews site says different things than in what is really true.

Strange things happened in the past with Loews First status, so nothing would surprise me.

If it is true, make sure to get the $100 food and beverage credit for platinum members.

It is true, the aph rate now qualifies for the Loews perks.

I called this morning and the rep changed my rate from $219.00 a night for the Portofino Suite, to $159.00 a night with all of my Platinum perks.

I'm so pumped, I feel like dancing.:banana::banana::cool1::dance3::dance3:

Okay, that settles it. I'm calling for a two night stay at Portofino in August.

After I reduced my rate, I called the you first customer service line. I explained what I had done, and again asked him to confirm that the ap rate is a qualifying rate . He ( Ralph ) put me on hold for 30 seconds, came back and recited the details of my upcoming stay with the ap rate, and told me it does qualify for the benefits.

I then explained to him that the website still says that ap rates do not qualify. He said that the website is not always up to date, and that it does indeed qualify.

I will be there August 17-20............... see you at Sal's. :cool2:

I just called and got a room with my platinum benefits but there was no upgrade available. That's okay with me. I'll keep calling hoping for a suite (and two bathrooms) but if not that's okay, I'll take the benefits. They're great on their own. We can get two free Sal's meals out of it!!!

Sorry you got no upgrade.:sad2:

Hopefully one will be available for you before you go.

Those bathrooms are great. The walk-in shower is awesome.
