2010 news from the Magic

What is everyone thinking about the sailings from USA ports and the financial turmoil going on right now? Start at regular prices and they will drop if they do not get bookings?

You really see the trickle down effect when things like this happen, all sectors feel it in one way or another.

It will definitely be interesting. I agree with the poster who said this is a global problem. I don't think it really matters where a ship is sailing at this point. I think all of the markets will be low.

It makes me wonder what the break even point is for cruise lines before they have to think about mothballing a ship or two. I know that's a drastic measure, but nothing seems unbelievable at this point. These are crazy times!

I think what is the more likely thing is more people will want to book less expensive cabins. Lets face it, it is going to be very difficult for some of us to give up our vacations. However, this coud be a good thing for those who book early. To free up those less expensive rooms, DCL is likely to give more upgrades.

The moral of the story is to book early. I'd take an upgrade or two! :goodvibes

Here's a weird question. Let's say I book one of the Med cruises for my family this October when booking opens. At that point, we have not yet been on a Disney Cruise. We will cruise in 11/09 and become Castaway Club members. After that, will the system recognize us as Castaway Club members for the 2010 Med cruise? What I'm wondering is, will I then be able to get online at the 90-day mark and make ressies for the 2010 cruise even though I wasn't a CC member when I originally booked the cruise?

Yes you will be a CC member. In Nov when you are on your cruise then check and see what the going rate is for the cruise that you booked for 2010. If you book while onboard then you get a discount and an onboard credit.

So to take this thought a bit further, it looks like our family of 4 (in 1 cabin) will be joined by my DMIL, my friend, and my friend's sister (in another cabin). What I was planning to do when I book in October was to split the cabin bookings as follows: Cabin 1 - DH, DMIL, DD11, DD9. Cabin 2 - Me, Friend, Friend's Sister. That way:
  1. We can take advantage of the lower rates for passengers 3 & 4 in cabin 1, since they are both under 12, and
  2. Both cabins will be eligible for 90-day ressies, since they both contain a CC member

Am I on the right track here? Or can you, oh great and knowledgeable DISboarders, :worship: think of a better way to do this?

That's right. And if you find out on the ship that you can get the same price for the rooms and decide to cancel the 1st ressies and book again then both rooms get the discount and the room credit.

Hello all,
i'm really keen to book when the deatils come out( hopefully the Baltic from UK) but obviousley the final price of the cruise (for UK cruisers) depends on the exchange rate for the $.
Due to the finanical crisis, can anyone look into their crystal ball and guess how this will impact on the $ ( is it likley to fall in value or rise).
i wonder if its worth paying a lot of front- just in case the $ drops? has anyone done this before
many thanks
Ruth

Perfect! You read my mind. Thanks so much.

I was hoping for a mid August TA, so if that is not going to happen will end up doing spring break again.

I was taking a look at the competition.

Carnival is going to base their new "Dream" out of Port Canaveral. For March 2010, for 3 on a 7 night eastern, balacony room is $3000.

Royal Caribbean is basing their "Freedom" out of Port Canaveral, for March 2010 for 3 on a 7 night eastern balcony room is $3900.

Currently March 2009 on the Magic for a 7 night Eastern for 3 in a balcony room is almost $7000.

I sure hope DCL looks at the competion and not what they are getting in 2009. I know DCL will always be more but it it would be hard to pay 3 or 4 thousand dollars more for the same cruise.

We are going to do one on points and one cash. DCL member services negotiates a price for the cash. My concern is that price doesn't change. I'm guessing it will be high unless they take the week's global $$ craziness into concideration.

The Freedom class of ships looks nice - wouldn't mind giving it a try. I compared prices as well. I don't mind downgrading from a balcony to an exterior room to sail with Disney, but even then, the price difference is still over $2,000 for a family of 4. I bet moving Freedom to Port Canaveral (they were in Miami right?) will give Disney some good competition. Good strategy on the part of RCL.

I currently have a back to back on Freedom booked for June 2009. The cost of a balcony for two weeks, with the onboard credits I got from the TA, are going be slightly more than one week in a balcony on Disney. The Disney balcony cabins are larger than the one I booked on the Freedom, but to get an extra week out of my vacation dollars is great.

I think I may have a cruise addiction. LOL.

I just priced the Western on the Freedom for the same week that we are doing the Western on Disney, 11/15/09. For a family of 4, Disney's Cat 5 is $5,600 and Freedom's Superior Balcony is $3,600.

We'll stick with Disney for this cruise, because it's our first and we love Disney. But for such a significant difference, I'll definitely be considering RCL as well for 2010.

WOW that is a big difference and RCCL is a lot of FUN!

I am thinking about Carnival Dream for Presidents week in 2010

We did the Independence of the Seas in August and absolutely LOVED it! By the time we disembarked it was our new favorite ship! I was wondering how we'd feel after we did the DVC Member cruise last month.

Well to make a long story short, instead of doing B2B cruises on the Magic in Sept 09, we are going to do B2B cruises on Independence in February - we couldn't wait any longer!

We were lucky enough to get upgraded to a Jr Suite on Independence, and I was quite happy with it. It's larger than a cat 4 on DCL, but not as large as the cat 3. However, I think I actually prefer the JS. While I love the bathrooms in the Cat 3, I think they put too much furniture in there. It seems like I'm always bumping into something. The JS actually felt more spacious, and it had a walk in closet and a nice sized balcony!

For 2 of us we are paying $5500 for a D2 (the larger balcony cabin) for 14 days. I would've been happy with a smaller cabin, but they were sold out on the 2nd sailing.

When are the new itineraries expected out? Anyone know an exact date?

Can anyone tell me what the itinararry was for the 2007 Repo (EB or WB) and how many days they were? Also, what was the price like?

We are considering this since we would spend time on a land vacation in Europe before or after the cruise.
