2010 European cruises--is this booking info correct?

Assuming we are talking about a cruise that sails in 2010, how can you use 2008 points for that cruise?

You can if your use year is December. You have to think it over a bit. But it makes a lot of sense. You may need to get a calendar to see it work, but it does.

As noted, this would be in the 2009 UY for 3 or 4 of the UY depending on the exact time of the cruise. I suspect in Carol's situation she has multiple UY with some that have a UY in such as way as to travel in the 2009 UY and that is why she's looking at using 4 UY worth of points total.

Yup, between our 3 master contracts and multiple addons we are using 2008, 2009, 2010 and borrowing some 2011. Yikes...
Carol, it's been a awhile since I discussed this issue with DVC. In the past they required all points for a given exchange, including cruises, to be in one contract. They were very flexible given this is a quirk to the exchanges including transferring banked and borrowed points and allowing multiple transfers if needed. Has DVC mentioned how this will work in this situation. I doubt it'll be an issue for the cruise but I suspect it will use up your transfer quota's for most or all contracts for 1, possibly more, UYs.

I have had several phone calls over the past few days with MS so that I could iron out all these details before booking day for the cruise. It sounds to me that they will take points from two of the master contracts and transfer them into the third master contract ( the on that we can borrow 2011 from) then using that one to make the reservations. They will need to transfer first and then bank. It sounds complicated to me, but they assurred me that there should not be a problem.

I actually did something similar to this for the 2007 Med Cruise and that seemed to work out fine.

Yup! We have June, August and October. Always a wise decision to marry a man with his own DVC contract already, LOL.

So I really feel like I should know this, but I can't seem to figure it out. Can we borrow 2011 points for booking this given a December use year? Sheesh, maybe this just means it costs too many points (or time to add on :) )! LOL

That's c/w my thinking. Good luck, I guess, at around $6 a point when used for the cruise.

Not from my understanding. You have to remember that the cruises are actually taking palce in your 2009 use year. You will be borrowing your 2010 points into that use year. It is really weird with those use years that fall later in the year. I'm sure glad mine is February.

Dean, you are pretty close. If I could get a Tier 1 price (bloody unlikely), I would be getting $6.88 per point. But if I get a middle tier pricing I will be getting a little over $7.45 a point. And top tier pricing would come out to $8.02 a point. A lot would depend on how fast your particular cruise sells out and how fast the pricing moves. Another thing to mention is that DVC points will include any fuel surcharge. I have confirmed this with a number of CM's. That would bring it to $7.58 per point for the top tier pricing. I'm figuring that I am probably getting the mid-range of about $7.58 a point. I know that I could probably rent for $10 a point. But by the time I pay 36% taxes on it, I would be losing money. Darn taxes! I never even thought about paying taxes on timeshare rental money until DH asked our tax accountant the other day.

Up bright and early so I can have my coffee and get my eyeballs open before all the fun begins! Hopefully it won't be too terribly bad... I know, I know, I'm fooling myself.

I know exactly what I want. And I know that I'll settle for anything on the ship, haha!

Again, good luck and have fun!

I just booked two staterooms for the 7/6 Baltic cruise in full on points. Paid the $95 booking fee and have my confirmation numbers. I am good to go! Yay!!

Congrats Carol! We got our cat. 6 on the June 12th sailing. Maybe I will have a short trip report for you to see before you take off.

Can we use our points to book for this cruise or not?

Yes you can use your points. Unfortunately, the chart isn't up on the website yet. So you have to call MS to get points quotes for specific cruises and categories. I paid 771 points per person for a cat. 6 on the Northern European Cruise. But unless you have plans to book the cruise, you might want to wait a bit to call. It's pretty crazy there right now.

I think the one level I did the math (2 adults) came out to about $5.92 a points give or take. Given the other negatives and risks booking with points, I'd personally want it to be either short notice or at least a return of $12 a point. Still, it should be a good time.
