Not sure if this is just a mock up (like something this company just came up with), or what it will look like.

Tracy

I am hoping the guys bibs will say Prince "whatever his name is" but I did LOL when I saw Jean's post. I will crack up if the guys bibs say Princess.

cgattis has bib number 960 for the half.

Question for photo ops along the way....Are there LINES for the characters along the way? I can see me stopping for 30 seconds for a pic, but not waiting in line DURING the race! Also, are the ASI photographers around to catch those shots, or should we rely on our own (small, sweaty) cameras??

ASI photographers should be on Main Street and at the Castle as you run down the ramp. They sometimes tuck into the corners. This Jan they also had 2 guys on your left as you ran down the ramp so you were at the base of the castle and could get a photo. The ones tucked in kinda take you by surprise so no lines but the 2 down at the bottle of the ramp had quick moving lines. I think I sort of ran in place and then was in the process of about to take off as the photographer took the pic.

Epcot the park I think has 2 guys in about the same place. The one I think is usually up on a ladder/platform and the other is more ground level. They are pretty much as you pass the Fountain, these guys will hopefully get a photo of you with Spaceship Earth behind you.

The finishline will have a few :) I think there was even one BEFORE the finishline as you were running to it. For some reason I think he was on the right.

Now something I didn't notice in my prior wDW Halfs but did this year were photographers set up on a plateform over the road as you ran between miles 11 and 12 somewhere I think. No I am pretty positive it was before that last ramp that goes into 12. They had the Weekend Race logo on the ground and were taking photos as you crossed the mat with the logo. 1st time I saw this was the MArathon in 2008 so not sure if I just missed it before or what. But neat photo op.

Characters most likely will have lines, you need your own camera for them. I hear they move pretty fast though. As you wait or as you run up get your camera set to go so you can hand it to the CM and get going again. I think the longest line I have ever seen was this year when they had I think 3 or 4 characters together. I know they had Mickey, Goofy and Donald dressed in Colonial garb around Liberty Tree Tavern. Now then I heard the HAunted MAnsion ghosts or someone was out and no line for them! So depends. I didn't wait for any character photos.

In the Minnie 15K I ran up to Mulan and there was NO one in line so I took my camera as I walked/ran up to her and handed it to the CM, photo snapped and off I ran.

Diane, thanks for all that good information. I'm a little confused though. Are you saying that you actually had to go and get in a line, or do all the runners just sort of slow down as you approach the photographers? I don't want to miss out on getting a pic in front of the castle!

This year there were photographers to pose for, but most years all I saw was photogrphers snapping as we ran by.

This is the advice the ASI guys gave me for getting a good castle photo (and I've gotten some pretty decent ones):
  • Leave space between you and the runner in front of you. They say this is the biggest problem -- runners jammed up as they come through the castle means some runners simply don't get photographed -- they can't get a clear shot with the number visible -- and that's what they are taught to do.
  • Stay to the far right or far left. In previous races, I seem to have better luck on the far left, but YMMV.
  • Keep your hands up and smile until you pass the last photographer at the bottom of the castle ramp. (Shouting "picture, picture" doesn't hurt, one guy said.)

HTH,

FIRST, MAKE SURE YOUR BIB IS COMPLETELY VISABLE. Don't cover it with a shirt or waistpack, or garbage bag (Like Mooshu is wearing, LOL :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:).

Don't pin your bib to the back of your shirt (Yes, some knuckleheads do this).

Always make sure you have a clear area 5 feet around you, otherwise slow down and let others pass.

For the pictures exiting the castle by ASI. Coming through from the carousel, there are two photographers at the exit of the castle.

Then you will head down the walkway to your right. Along each of the walkways, should be two more photographers on each side.

Then two more at the bottom of the ramp on each side.

You need to stay either left or right so they can see you. Scream, whistle, wave your hands, that gets you noticed. Oh, and slow down so no one is in front of you blocking your shot.

The was also one more out in front of the castle on your left, where the Princess show normally takes place. This one has a line, but it moves very fast! I stopped for less than one minute, and had about 14 people ahead of me.

When you're out on the course, when you about to reach a timing mat, look up and smile. There are photographers and remote cameras usually on ladders. DO NOT HAVE YOUR HEAD DOWN LOOKING AT YOUR FEET!

Here is a shot where I forgot to put up the bill of my hat, and got a shadow picture of my face.

At the finish line, look up, and smile. Be sure to run underneath the timing clock so your time is recorded in the picture. Stop your watch or Garmin after you have passed the last photographer, at least 10 yards past the finishers mat.

And finally, never let an IDIOT get in your way while talking on their cell phone!!! This was a race volunteer. :scared1:

Jeff that is an awesome review of where the photographers are and tips! You should do a separate thread and keep the link so you can bump it every so often :thumbsup2

And :scared1: over the cell phone photo but at the same time i wanted to groan and laugh.

Wendy... great ideas from that ASI guy you spoke too :thumbsup2

Thanks for the excellent tips!!!!

LOL, pay attention to #9

1.) Please Take a Number - Wear your race number high in the center of your chest. We use the numbers to identify your photos. Also, remember to wear your number on a layer of clothes that we can see.

2.) Read a Map - Review our course shot locations and be sure to look for our photography teams.

3.) Rub the Curb - When you approach our photography locations, move to one side of the road (don't run right down the middle).

4.) Smile - Smile, yell or wave at our photographers - they love it!

5.) Do a Shot Before You Race - Be sure to get your pre-race commemorative photo by visiting our various corral locations (photographers in the vests) at the start staging areas.

6.) Do a Shot After You Race - After you finish, grab your medal and get your commemorative medal photo by visiting our candid stations. Commemorate your accomplishment!

7.) Celebrate - Don't Watch Your Watch - As you finish, put your hands in the air, or give a high-five to your running mate - DO NOT block your number by looking down at your watch.

8.) Don't Tailgate - At our photo locations and at the finish, don't run right behind someone else. Run in your own space (if you can). That way, you'll get a cleaner shot and really showcase your finish.

9.) Run a 5 minute mile pace. :lmao:

10.) Have Fun!
