***2009-2010*** cheer parent thread!!

We (Carolina Crossfire Cheer) had our first competition today. We came in first in Youth Large level 1 and then we won Grand Champions! Our juniors and seniors didn't compete due to injuries so we missed the second half of the competion. Turns out we also won (along with Haydens All-Stars level 3) an International All-Levels Championship full paid bid! Pretty impressive for our first official competition ever! We were part of another gym that had been around a year and a half but the coaches split and our coach opened her own cheer gym. About half of these kids had never cheered before. Now I am really excited for Spirit of Hope in Charlotte!

Congrats! sorry this is so late, I must have not gotten the notice of a post being placed last month. We are headed to Spirit of Hope too! What other teams does your gym have? I'm from Comet All Stars in NJ and we have

Mini 1
Sm Youth 2
Sm Jr 2
Sm Jr 2
Sm Sr 2
Large Sr 4
Sm Sr 5

We also have 3 half year teams a tiny team and a Sr Coed Open 6 but they are not going to Charlotte with us. Good Luck! I love this comp! Also I can't wait to be in slightly warmer weather soon! Even 40's would be great right about now! :goodvibes

There was a big cheer/dance competition at the Mall of America yesterday, was anyone there? We were shopping and saw several groups all around.

We have Large Youth level 1
Small Jr level 2
Small Sr level 3.

I checked the schedule and our Juniors aren't going against each other so I can cheer y'all on to win! Our juniors are in division A and go on Saturday at 2:40 and 3:00 on Sunday in hall C. Your Seniors will be competing in the same hall at 3:05 and 2:25 so I'll make sure to watch them. Your Jrs are competing in Division B around the same time as us but in Hall A (2:50 and 3:10) so I'll miss them cheer. Good luck! I can't wait.

Well, it was a fun but exhausting weekend! Spirit of Hope is always well run.
Our Youth level 1 won! Woo hoo! (My dds 7 and 10 are on that team).
Our Jr level 2 were 5th place. I don't agree with the judging on this one. I don't think they should have won but it wasn't a last place performance. There were things on the judges sheets that didn't match up with what they did. They commented on a couple of things that aren't in our routine. Weird. But they did a clean performance and no major mistakes so we were happy about that.
Our Sr level3 placed 5th out of 7. Not bad. They should really be a level 2 team but a lot of the girls would leave if they weren't a level 3 team and the gym is new so our coach needs them.
We were the ones in the flame hats if you were wondering who those crazy people were! And my DH was the one wearing the Heat Miser red flame hair. I can't believe he wore that! How did everyone else do?

I haven't been on for awhile, so missed your posts.

CONGRATS!!!

Sounds like you are off to a great start. What a way for a new gym to take off!

Our gym competed in WSA Nationals in December.

All our teams competing (11) were national champions + S5 was grand champion. It was a tiny nationals, more like a small regional two day competition. But it was a fun weekend and a good start to the season. The competitions and gyms in Colorado are getting more and more competitive, so it was so much fun watching all the other teams in all the other divisions too.

In fact, I think one of Colorado's gym's S5 team did really well at Jamfest Indy (top 5). Congrats to Peak Tigers - you guys are amazing! It is so exciting to see our state starting to have some great gyms that are very competitive on the National level. It makes our regional competitions all that more fun.

Our teams competing were:
Mini 1
S1
Y2
J2
S2
J3
Y4
SC4
S5 (competed in open that weekend due to an injury)
Unlimited Coed 5
Open Coed 6

Our parents also received the spirit award for most spirited parents. We are an enthusiastic bunch!

My daughter's (special needs) and my niece's(basically my daughter as my brother is a single dad) teams didn't compete, so we were just there for support.

"Our" first competition was supposed to be this past weekend, a small NCA regional, but 5 gyms pulled out and they canceled the competition. Apparently, due to the economy, 3 of those gyms had shut their doors and the other two just pulled out, so we were left competing against ourselves in just about every division. So, NCA decided to just go and cancel the competition.

The girls were very bummed as they were excited to finally get on the floor! We only learned last week that it was being canceled, so it was a surprise. But our disappointment was probably minor to all those kids whose gyms just closed their doors at the beginning of the year. I can't imagine their disappointment to have their season end just as it was getting started.

We have our "state" (a flip and shout) competition in 2 weeks then off to Dallas. So, the girls are very excited about that!

Anyone heading to NCA in Dallas?

How did you guys do? I would love to go to Charlotte one year. It sounds like such a fun competition!

Yeah, we'll be at NCA in Dallas.

Four days of ACA in Ft. Worth last weekend...Fri and Sat for the school teams and Sun and Mon for all stars. (My D does both.)

On Jan. 2nd, the girls found out that the gym was combining the small level 3 team and the small level 4 team, and they learned an entirely new level 3 routine in two weeks. AND, to top it off, one of the girls got mono, so they substituted a new girl on Saturday before they competed the next day. So with all that said, 3rd out of 5 is something to be very proud of.

That is great, especially with so many changed and learning a new routine in only 2 weeks!! Wow!!

What gym, so we can cheer you guys on?

We are the Suns from Colorado.

We are Spirit Xtreme, from Southlake Texas. It's a sweet gym.

We will be looking for you. Once we get our schedules, perhaps we can say hi. We are bringing the whole program except the mini 1's and the pre-teams. I will be hanging out around the special needs teams:goodvibes

I will be hanging out around the special needs teams :-)

We've got a friend who cheers on a special needs team for Legacy. Our paths haven't crossed yet but I'm hoping to be able to see her team perform at some point before the season is over.

We saw Cheer Athletics' special needs team over the weekend...what a crowd pleaser!

If I can tread on some perhaps sensitive territory here: Our gym is the only gym in the area that competes with covered midriffs and I'm definitely in favor of everyone's tummies being covered. But we do have the short skirts.

All the special needs teams I've seen so far have not only had covered midriffs (again, I like that) but also, the girls' skirts have been down to their knees. Do the parents request that? My feelings about that are so mixed...in one way, the whole short tight cheer uniform does sort of sexualize our young women...so we certainly don't want to sexualize young special needs women. BUT, I don't like the idea of them looking all dowdy either. What is your opinion?

Hello!

Just found this thread, and am very happy! Other cheer moms/parents/grandmas YEAH! lol

My 16 yr old is in her 4th yr All Star .. she also does Hip Hop Dance Team .. that team happens to be better than the cheer squad lol ..

She also does an individual that she has taken first in! One of those comps was the Beach Blast in Tacoma and her coach entered and my daughter took first! lol .. they called out her name, and she is a totally great sport and thot, ok 2nd, yeah I knew I would .. but then got the trophy and goes, hey mom, I got first! I didn't know either! lol .. so that was cool ..

Our comp season is in full swing and we are on the West Coast .. so I hope some cheer moms/parents/grandmas represent the West Coast lol

I'll find some pics and post!

Honestly, I wouldn't let my daughter cheer if they had uniforms that showed the tummy .. and she is the one that said she wouldn't if they had uniforms like that .. (she is 16) ..

I had heard regulations would be nix'ing those midrif type uniforms, but who knows .. I hope so tho ..

Our gym owner works for ACA and she heard the same thing (that midriff tops were on the way out) so that is why she went with covered this year.

Looks like there were a lot of big competitions over the weekend! My daughter's senior open L3 team took first at the Xtreme Spirit Nationals in Lansing, Mi on Saturday. This is her first year, and first win, so it was EXTREMELY exciting. She is soooo in love with this sport.:lovestruc:love::lovestruc

What makes a team "open"? (Our first year, too.)

I think it's age based for 'open'

Our hip hop dance team is open as we have some 19 yr olds on it ..

Least that's the way it is on the West Coast .. but we are behind you East Coasters lol
