2008 Tot 13K Final Instructions- New 18 min pace limit

Disney has posted the final instructions. They raised the race pace limit from 16 min/mile to 18 min/mile. This may help some on the fence vs the conflicting pace requirements. I think they did this as only 60% full with 5 weeks before race. They filled early Sept last year.

It is on my website at http://disneyrunning.com/08TowerRaceInstructWeb.pdf

Hey Robert I gotta think this and EEC cut into this event.

Plus the way the race was handled caused people to be wary on signing up again until they know everything was fixed from last years race. $85 for an 8 miler might have something to do with it($25 more than last year)

The 18 min pace might also be because a little panda has been asking them for that so more of our friends can do it.

Happy Panda

OH MY GOSH THIS IS FANTASTIC!

(Hi I'm new here by the way!)

I got suckered...erm, encouraged...by a friend to do the ToT13K, and then got so busy with school I haven't had enough time to even begin to train...I can walk 8 miles no problem, but only at a 17/mile pace (and my friend convinced me a few months was plenty of time to get that down to 16, which would be true, except that I haven't had the time to do it!)

So I thought I was just going to start the race and cry when they swept me and I didn't get the spiffy medal.

I know this information was from the official document, but are we SURE they changed it and it wasn't just a typo? It still says 16 minutes on the website....

Disney's website can take some time to update vs the pdf final instructions.

Welcome by the way. Say Hi is you pickup your packet on Sat morning/early afternoon as a bunch of us will be working. I plan to wear my DisneyRunning.com Safety Orange! If they allow it:rolleyes1

Well the pace wasn't my reason for not signing up...

Cost and orgainzation were. Sorry, but starting an hour late is unacceptable! If they get it right this year maybe we will be back, but not until they prove they know what they are doing;)

It's the main reason I have not signed up for any of the other new races at Disney! I figure someone else can deal with the start up mess!

I agree that a $25 increase was too rich for my blood. The $170 can be put to lots of fun at F&W.

Disney closes registration on 10/20 which is 4 weeks away. I don't think they will fill as only 65% full(as of today).

I had my hotel (Beach Club Resort) booked for this since May (booked it when we were at AKL for the Minnie) but unfortunately I am going to have to cancel the reservation. I still haven't registered for the race so thankfully I can get my deposit for the room back. There is just no way I can swing going next weekend for EEC and then a month later for TOT. I am just going to add a day to my EEC trip and then wait until January for my next Disney trip fix.

My DH is already planning on going to WDW for his bday now that the new deal is out where you get in free on your bday in 2009 (good thing his bday is in Feb!!)

I bet dropping the 6.5K race had a lot to do with the sign ups being low. I raced the 13K last year and loved it. I think it is the best course and theme of any of the races. I must say that the course and the party afterward are the best. Yes, traffic did stink, that was totally unacceptable. Not even an apology from Disney. But, that was probably the only event I have ever been to at Disney that had that kind of issue. I've been going to Disney since the late 80's.

I am not running this year. Why? Strictly cost. The cost of the race and the after party ticket for my wife is just too much for a 13K. We live a few hours South and even with that between a 1 night stay, race, food and travel it would be over $300. For an 8 mile race I don't think so. Heck, I signed up for the Dopey so they already have a lot of my money. We wouldn’t be going to the parks this time so it would be just for the race.

A lot of it also has to do with the Disney attitude. They keep raising the prices and taking away benefits. The marathon is a classic example. Honestly as much as I like the races and think that they do a great job overall, they are getting out of my "value" range. Sure I'll pay a bit more for a Disney race but they have gone a little to far.

I will evaluate after the marathon but at this time I am leaning towards not running at Disney anymore. There are too many other good events out there. Maybe they all have the same attitude of charging more and giving less. Don't know.

OK, off my soap box :)

It was a great race and if I was going to do another Disney race, this would be it!

enjoy,
Duane

So Robert, are you and Linda still not doing ToT?

Becky
Yes, I am resting from races until Dopey. I hurt my foot at work and made it worse at DL. I can't walk on it for last 3 weeks and can't train.

We will be at the packet pickup(working) and the DisneyRunning.com FE at mini golf and dinner before we head to F&W. We will be at the post race partyy while you run :)

I'm happy that the pace has become more giving, but sorry to read that the pace has changed so late in the training/scheduling opportunity for it.
