OUCH! :( I got conked on the head with a flag slam at rehearsal once. Those 2-7 girls were strong, too.

I used to be a prop guy for my high school "marching band" not drum corps, LOL. I was in the indoor percussion for a while but had to quit due to scheduling conflicts with the indoor guard I was in as well, but had to quit that as well due to transportation issues. It was one thing after another with that! LOL. I love to watch them perform though, my favorite is seeing the ACC tournie even though it's high schools, it's still cool to watch the formations. Where is there a place to watch the Drum Corps?!

Maybe in your local movie theater! DCI (Drum Corps International) has shown the top 18 corps through a satellite feed to movie theaters in the past. Check with www.DCI.org for more information. It's quite a step up from most high school bands.

I seem to have forgotten the season got officially underway while I was at WDW. Go figure...I might been a little distracted by the boys at Mannequins :rotfl:

Mike your stories absolutely crack me up! Such good memories(now, not at the time though)

The Blue Stars were looking for interns. mmmm skinny and tan boys all over. Unfortunately I have to work and am not quite financially stable enough to take off a summer and travel - as much as I'd love to! Maybe next year

Woo Hoo! I leave for Madison in the morning...the weather forecast is sketchy at the moment, but I don't care if I get wet. I'm sooo excited! :yay: :yay: :yay:

I just put in for vacation for finals week today...

And get this....

Some buds from Boston are gonna be leaving from the Allentown show and driving, and they want to meet at Cedar Point for a few days before finals!

How sweet is that? :cool1:

I performed at the D2 show it Brocton Ma yesterday with Mass Brass, and Tell ya what...I got to see the Jersey Surf, and yes I know they are not in the "world class" but man I was impressed. Awesome sound! Excellent guard, and a great drumline! I was sitting kind of low, but I got the picture of overall visuals, and they would be awesome to watch in the upper levels of a big stadium. Over all a great show. Watch for them to impress you...Don't let that D2 label deter you from watching them. I also thought the Citations from Burlington Ma was excellent too. Not the numbers of Jersey, but equally impressive sound from a more compact unit. 7th Regiment from New London, Ct. was very good too...all in all I was impressed with the over all quality of these "younger" siblings to the D1 corps... I implore you all to not overlook watching these "up-and-comers". You will not be disappointed!

Now for us, it's on to the Bristol RI show this coming Thursday and to see the Cadets...and the Surf in the same show....

BTW, I will post us "old folk" playing at the show on YouTube soon...and will give you all a link...

I miss going to the Bristol show! :sad2:

OK I really miss the Onlyville hot dogs and Rocky Point Clamcakes!:thumbsup2

And I agree about some of the talent in the Div 2 corps!

I'll have a couple of weeeeners and some clamcakes just for you Mike...:thumbsup2

Bristol is my hometown, and I can't wait to perform once again on the field I last performed on in 1976 as DM of my high school band.

I leave the next morning for WDW at 6:30 AM :scared: (hope I wake up in time) Doing "Illuminations" 4th of July night...hope it's worth the "expected" crowds!

Rick,
I marched the Bristol parade in 1994, and it is loooooooong!! If your group is near the end of the parade, expect to be standing around waiting to step off for hours. The route is long, the spectators enthusiastic :drinking1 :drinking1
and it seems to take forever to get to the end. Have fun!

Saturday night can not come fast enough for me. I can’t wait to see SCV and BD.
This is how I will be spending my Saturday night:

Blue Devils - Concord, CA
Phantom Regiment - Rockford, IL
Santa Clara Vanguard - Santa Clara, CA
The Academy - Tempe, AZ
Pacific Crest - Diamond Bar, CA
Mandarins - Sacramento, CA
Blue Devils C - Concord, CA - They are sooooo cute!!!!
Blue Devils B - Concord, CA
Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets - Santa Clara, CA
Mystikal - Long Beach, CA
San Francisco Renegades - San Francisco, CA

Having grown up there, I used to march it twice during my high school years...once with the high school band, quick change and run back to the begining and once with the corps. My dad marched it for 61 years! This is the first year he will not be able to do it..:sad1:

Of course it wasn't always as long as it is now...prior to 76 it was only 2 miles
now it's 3.1 miles, yep, very long indeed....

Lucky for me, we are ONLY doing the DCI show the night before...we are old now, and don't do parades...:rotfl: Besides, the whole minicorps thing uses a set drummer...no drumline...:confused3 (don't mean to offend all you drummers out there....remember, I marched with North Star during the famed "Chrome Wall" era - :thumbsup2 )

:thumbsup2 yep on all those mentioned, but :worship: :worship: 7 :worship: :worship: (Renegades for the uninformed)If I lived anywhere near SF, that is where you would find me! :cool1:

Being a Mellophone, and them now aquiring the services of Bonnie Ott along with Chris Nalls and the rest of that sweet mell section, it would make my day to play along side!

Not that it's a bad thing playing with the MB mell section that has been together for 3 years now, but that would be a trip! (figuratively and literally considering I am on the opposite coast - :) )

The 2008 Cadets send their family members, alumni, fans and supporters best wishes for a happy week! The corps spent the weekend in Madison, Wis., and Naperville, Ill., before heading to Erie, Pa., for rehearsal today and another performance of "...and the pursuit of happiness" tonight. Excitement is building as the Cadets prepare to come home this weekend for their show, Music In Motion, on Saturday, July 5th at Clifton Stadium in Clifton, N.J.

I wanna go on tour now.....

I think these guys need more bongos! :woohoo:

bongos.jpg

Why are there no Bongos in the bands. ;)
And when the drummer starts beating that beat
He nails that beat with the syncopated rhythm
With the rat, tat, tat, tat, tat, tat on the drums, hey
Turn the beat around
Love to hear the percussion
Turn it upside down
Love to hear the percussion
