2008 - C25K program :) WELCOME!!

Last week was W2 for me. I did two days and felt great. On Friday, I tried doing day 3 and made it half way through before I stopped. My lower legs hurt so bad and I was winded. I figured it was because I had a cold.
I was suppose to start W3 today. School was canceled. So I have to wait for dh to wake up and watch the kids so I can go run on the treadmill at the college.
I know I am not ready to do week W so I am repeating week two. I feel so unmotivated and quitting is going through my head. I have not lost any weight (even though I am drinking so much water and exercising). I typically feel better after working out but I'm focusing on not wanting to work out. I'm having a one person pitty party.

Hang in there! I know how hard it is to get out and be motivated when it is gross out there...but you CAN do it and it IS worth it! Think of how proud of yourself you will be!

Definitely repeat week 2...there is no shame it that at all. Go at a healthy and do-able pace for you. Lots of folks here repeat weeks all the time.

As for no loss...don't worry...it will come off. What are doing about eating? If you are really focusing on cutting calories, you may have cut too much? Tell us what your eating plan is and maybe we can see some areas for help or improvement. Keep going!

Hey there! I was SOOOOO excited to find this thread!!

Today is my 1st day of W2!! After DS gets up from his nap, off to the gym we go....even with my headache:headache:

Couch to 5K is a HUGE goal for me. I am a little rounder than I have been in past years, not too fit, and busy as a single mom....DS is 3.5---keeps me running but usually to catch things flying through the air! I have never been a runner, but used to swim in high school. OOOOH....and by the way, my goal is the Expedition Everest Challenge. (note to self....I think I can I think I can I think I can) This year is the big 3-0 for me, and I am so excited to have a physical goal:yay: --something to really look forward too-- ahead of me. In the process, I am hoping to shed a few pounds and improve my overall health. I can honestly say last week was a fun challenge, but wasn't so difficult that I felt defeated from the get go and I'm looking forward to moving ahead this week.

I am watching what I eat and drinking lots of water. I am a twice drop out of Weight Watchers. While I'm not counting points, I am eating similar to what I did on Core. It was my birthday on Saturday so I ate lots of cake.
I planned on redoing week 2 tonight. But my husband was just toned out for a fire and I have no one to watch the kids. I'll have to do day 1 in the morning and then do day two the next day. It's best for my schedule to do it M,W,F.

Wow... I'm so glad I found this thread!

Today was W5D3 for me, the first one with no walking at all. To my surprise and EXTREME pleasure I made it the entire 2 miles and still had quite a bit left in the tank. Seriously, there's no feeling quite like it! :woohoo: Those of you in the earlier weeks: it gets better... maybe not easier... but I'm seriously loving this rush!

Best of luck to everyone!

Ok, nothing going here I am SICK!!!!!!!!!

Today is day two on the meds, and I hope that I will feel better to run. My husband is off tomorrow, so I hope to run early in the day!!

CONGRATS to everyone for moving along through the program!!!

Up a little late tonight, so I thought I'd post a couple of things before bed.

Maymom:  We all have times when we're unmotivated, when we feel we're making changes and all these obstacles keep getting thrown in our way: weather, schedules, we don't seem to be making physical progress with running or weight loss, and pain.

First of all, know you're not alone. This last week I couldn't complete day one of week four. I got 1/3 of the way through on Monday, 2/3 of the way through on Wednesday, and barely made it through on Friday. I decided to repeat the week this week, and I was really dreading today. Today, W4D1 was much different. Sometimes we just need to let our bodies adjust.

And remember what you said--you normally feel BETTER after working out. Hold on to that, as that feeling will get you through. Don't put pressure on yourself to move through the schedule week by week--it might not work for your circumstances. Back-to-back runs are hard for people. It might be better to give yourself a couple of days between runs if your family schedule is weird. And losing weight can also be weird, even if you're doing everything right; the body has strange ways of dealing with getting healthier. (I hate to keep using myself as an example, but I did the Goofy Challenge in January & gained weight during the training even though the long-run training was 20 miles.)

Just give yourself some time and permission to adjust, okay? Redoing week 2 is a good start.

Starkiss: Welcome! :goodvibes I hope your W2 goes well, and I think having EE as a goal is a great motivator. In fact, I think planning any Disney race is a motivator!

Buzz: It's good to know what I (hopefully) will have to look forward to this week. :thumbsup2 Of course, I'm prepared to have to stop & repeat W4D1 or D2, but eventually I'm going to get to that holy grail of 20 minutes/2 miles of running straight. Congrats on enjoying it so much & having energy to spare!

Swim-Mom: Aww, I'm so sorry. :sad2: I'd hoped you'd avoid getting really sick. It seems like every area of the country is going through some version of this. I hope you feel much better tomorrow.

FWIW, I think it's really hard to stay motivated this time of year, what with weather and gray days and illnesses. Just stick with it folks, because wouldn't it be cool to be able to be running outside when springtime finally arrrives? :cool1:

Hey guys. :goodvibes

I ran w4d2 today. :thumbsup2 Tomorrow I am running w4d3 and then moving on to week 5 on Thursday. :woohoo:

swim-mom - GET BETTER, GIRL!!

You're all doing wonderful! Keep it up, guys. :thumbsup2

OMG, still sick here................................and the meds are not working!!!!!

Cross your fingers and your toes that I feel well enough to run tonight when the BL is on!!

I just started to c25k program yesterday. I was only able to do 10 minutes but its a start.

I started the program specifically to run at the disney events (thanks Len!) and right now Im planning on definetely doing the Jan 5k, but hoping to maybe do the everest in sept. It will be slow for me though, I have alot of weight to lose and I just quit smoking dec 23, so my lungs arent the greatest, but Im trying and would love to be part of your team.
:yay:

Good for you!! :thumbsup2

Nice to see others who will be doing the 5K too. Will be my first one and I'm darned excited!!

Look forward to seeing you in January!:yay:

Week 2 is not going so well.....let's see....got 6" of snow today and now its icing on top of that...an DS, 3.5, was just at the doc's today....temp of 103 and croup. Argggggh. Being a single parent stinks sometimes---no one to come home and relieve me to get to the gym.....I guess it wouldn't matter as they closed early since the roads are so bad.

Haven't done day 1 of week 2 yet....I hope I can get there this week---last week went so well! But my yoga tape should help relax me tonight if nothing else! Thanks for the warm welcome. It is so much easier to be motivated with other people who are fighting the fight with you. princess:

Big HUGS  Hope your DS is feeling better.

Life gets in the way sometimes. For all of us. As I mentioned to someone else recently (:rolleyes1 ), there's NO rush. You stick with the program as your life allows and you will succeed! If you have to re-do a day or a week along the way - so what! We all have for one reason or another. You still WANT THIS, and you'll have it. :thumbsup2

welcome rainbodragon!! :wave2:

I was supposed to start week 2 yesterday, but took a sick day instead. Woke up with a headache and felt awful. Spent the better part of the day in bed, and planned to start week 2 today.

Decided to just take it slow and get through the training run, even if I couldn't run as fast as I did at the end of week 1. I made it through, and even added speed on the last two intervals. I actually felt better after the run, I think. Of course I also had to go out and shovel snow for half an hour. Now I'm sore, but glad I'm started on week 2!:yay:

Kim: Good luck starting Week 5 tomorrow. I know you can do it!

Swim-mom: I've got my fingers crossed. Are you feeling better today?

Rainbodragon: Welcome to C25K. I saw you on SparkPeople and I just know you'll be able to accomplish great things. Don't worry about adhering to the program exactly. If you need to take more time to get through "weeks," do so. We're all here not only to become runners but to become better in tune with our bodies.

Christi: Welcome!!! Isn't it great? You've already got virtual training buddies for the 5K!

Starkiss: Try not to sweat it too much. Sometimes LTO (life takes over). I think your plan to keep up with yoga is very smart; yoga will help you with your core and, in turn, with your running.

Blizzard: Congrats on deciding to give W2 a try, even if you weren't feeling 100%. And for being reasonable and flexible with the plan. Just don't overexert yourself and get sicker. (As I did....)

As for me: Great news for me, sort of. I got the numbers of my weeks mixed up, so I thought I was repeating/trying to complete W4. It turns out I've been trying to finish W5! So I completed W5D2 today. Friday I attempt W5D3, 20 straight minutes. I hate to admit it, but I'm a little nervous.... Oh well, what's the worst that can happen (reasonably, not in the nightmare scenarios I can cook up)? I don't complete it and need to work my way up to 20 minutes. Been there before, might be there again! :lmao:

Congrats to all the new folks starting on the program. I know you'll love it.

Today was W6D1 for me. I wish I could say it went as smoothly as my 20 minute run a couple of days ago, but something about going back to the walking intervals threw me for a loop. I got through it, but needed some serious self-motivating to do so.

One great thing about today, though. I made it to my goal weight about 3 weeks ahead of the schedule I'd set. I do have to say that those 30 missing pounds make C25K seem so much more do-able.

Keep up the great work, everyone!

A little frustrated here!! It is now a week that I have not done anything, due to being sick.

The meds are working.........thank god, but still not feeling well enough to get back on the TM. I have alot of congestion, and my body still aches.

After beating myself up, Kimwim talked me out of the whole I was in and I realized that I am sick and I will be able to start back up. It is not like I quit, but a cold has just put a hinder on things for now.

Here is my plan:

Thur - """"RUN""""
FRI - Run
SAT - REST
SUN - early Run, otherwise it will never happen!!

PS. I think I need to re-schedule when i do my grad school work, because I am stressing too much over running and work. So I need to find a balance :)

Happy Valentine's Day, runners!

Congrats on starting! And an even bigger congrats on quitting smoking! :cool1: What a major accomplishment! This thread is a great place to be for support, advice, tracking progress...the works! Welcome!

Hang in there! As any mom will tell you, your schedule isn't yours anymore...:rotfl2: ...we constantly put their needs and lives and schedules first. Don't worry...you'll get your run in...

Awesome! That's like the running equivalent of finding a 20 dollar bill in the pocket of a pair of pants you haven't worn in a long time! :rotfl2:

Hang in there! You have to heal first! When are you doing your school work? I always found it best to do it at night when the house was quiet. Then again, I am a night owl, so that just works for me.

As for me...I did something today that I didn't know I had in me! I went to the gym and hopped on the TM and early on I just felt..."I am not having a good run today..." which I know can happen. I was just over 15 minutes in and not feeling strong or motivated, so I thought..."fine, I'll just make it to 20 minutes and then walk for a bit. So be it."

Well, I really dug deep today...I had already allowed myself the "out" at 20 minutes...but then the other half of me said..."no way...you are here, you are doing just fine...nothing hurts...so what if it is an off day...just keep running for a while and see if you find your stride..." And find my stride I did! I ran for 44 minutes today! That is a new PB for me! 3.6 miles! Let me tell you...if anyone had told me a month ago that I would be running over 3 miles a day...consistently...I would have bet them my annual salary that they were full of it!

Still no new shoes. Went to the one place in town and they didn't carry my size in any brand...so I will try again. I am thinking that since it is Valentine's Day, it will be my present to myself...since I am so proud of ME for running! :goodvibes

You deserve LOTS o' dancin banananas for that!!! :woohoo: Awesome job, girl!

swim-mom...you'll be back out there soon.. That TM will be there waiting for you when you feel better. Try not to stress about it! Maybe you can switch your runs to a different time of day and do your school work at night? Just a thought.

As for me, I ran w5d1 today. :thumbsup2 I felt good the whole time, except for the one minute after I start running again. :headache: I think my legs are getting stiff during the walking periods or something? I feel like I'm walking quite fast, so who knows. I guess in a few weeks I won't have to worry about that. :scared:
