2008 BAN Wagon Support Group

Well, you said you would participate in up to 4 swaps and TRY to shop your stash. So if this could be one of your swaps...and if you can't shop your stash, well you tried.

Or you can edit your list and say, "oh, I forgot about my other scrap groups so I have to add in an extra exemption." :rotfl:

Pffff...that's easy. If you have the $20.00, go for it. You are still on the Ban, because you stopped and thought about the purchase, you are low on the supply, and you will use it. Ban the impulse and the hoarding, but don't deny something you will use...just MHO...

And I'll be sending you a check for $20 so I can join too :lmao: (just kidding...well sort of)

I agree! And I, too, will be sending you a check for $20! :lmao:

Y'all have inspired me! I have way too much scrap stuff, and I know I need to stop buying stuff, just because it's pretty or cute and on sale. (They say admitting you have a problem is the first step. Right?)

This year I will:
not buy any patterned paper
not buy any embellishments
not buy any stamps (they're cute, but I never use them)
not buy any new tools
buy solid paper only as needed
buy only 2 Cricut carts (one for birthday and one for Christmas)
buy basic supplies only as needed and on sale

And (this is the hard part) I'm giving myself 1 free shopping day, where anything goes. That will be in June for the scrapbook convention in Arlington. I'll have to set myself a budget for that. :sad2:

Ok, i have to hold myself accountable so I took off one of my free days-I went to Walmart and got a great deal on something (i won't post it here, i posted it on the Enablers board!;) ) I am now down to two free random days. (Its going to be a LOOOONGG year at this rate!):rotfl:

My goal with the BAN is to limit the amount of unneeded browsing and shopping that I do because something is "cute" rather than needed. I admit it - I have an illness and it's called being a scrappy shopaholic :goodvibes. I buy and buy stuff but never use it because I'm a) too busy buying more stuff or b) doing swaps. The BAN helps me to limit my heedless shopping because I am conscious of not looking/spending the money AND it keeps me from signing up for swaps indiscriminately since I am limiting myself. My purpose with the limitations is to get more pages done.

Honestly, if I really like a certain kind of embellishment, I use it. I  :lovestruc  ribbon and I use it all the time. I belong to a monthly ribbon club and I also generally buy 15 to 20 yards of various ribbon every time I go shopping. I basically use ribbon on practically every layout and item I make.

I also use Primas a ton on my pages which is why I'm also out. This purchase would save me a ton because it would give me the variety I crave without having to buy the whole bottles for myself. We are able to get this deal because one of our members owns a retail scrap store and she passes her discount to us. She orders tons of Primas for her store so just tacks on our order and we get the volume discount.

I think I might have come up with a compromise with myself. I have set a budget for my free days so I will deduct the $20 from my b-day free day. This way I will get something I need but stay within my allotment.

Thanks for letting me bounce off of y'all. Sometimes you just need help working it out! :grouphug:

Because you made me feel better about my nwe box, can I suggest you go go go for the Primas? If nothing else you can save some for the Prima swap in april :goodvibes: so it won't cost anything (love my math?)

So.... last night I decided to go see if Joann's had the new Cuttlebug dies, embossing folders, etc while DH went into Spec's (wine store) next door. I walked out spending $1.30. While I know that I could have resisted the one thing that I bought, I am proud of myself for resisting lots of other temptations. I am on the ban because I need to stop the impulse buying, think about what I am buying and scrap more! Although last night, DH told me I didn't need to be on a Ban....:scared:

Also, I am most likely headed to Michaels today to buy some embellishment jars for organizing. My drawer that I have them stored in gets stuck everytime I try to open it because of all the stuff. We've established that organizing is ok, right? And I may run to Hobby Lobby to use my 40% coupon on Cricut mats.

Isn't this a little like a diet or quitting smoking? It's an addiction;), and sometimes you have to wean yourself rather than going cold turkey. And, if you need and use the flowers or whatever we're talking about, that's different than adding to an already huge stash of beautiful, patterned paper!

IMHO!

Yes Vanyel! That is the perfect way to describe this- IMHO. :thumbsup2

I'm a little late, but I am in too. I have decided to use expensive scrap stuff as a reward for my weight loss. I am getting married in September, so I need to get motivated. For my first 5 lb loss I will allow myself one cart. At 15 lbs I am going for the expression. Since AC Moore has a good deal this month, I am debating buying it and sitting it in the corner of my scrapbooking room unopened, so it can taunt me whenever I am in there. The issue with that is I will see it and head to the gym or out for a walk and get little scrapping done! But hey cant complain about the new me even if my scrapping falls further behind!

I am allowing myself any and all adhesive I need and maybe a special sheet of paper here and there

Can I join too? My DH put me on a DIS board ban since our WDW vacation, my 3 weeks is over today :) I have so much scrapping stuff that I never use! I just keep collecting new stuff. I have a scrapping room with 3 full bookshelves and other storage areas (full) and the overflow is in the garage!!!! I organized and I still have so much stuff that I can't find what I want when I want it. I have 2 WDW trips to scrap (1300 photos for April and over 2000 photos for December), and I'm 3 years behind on the family albums. So this year I will create albums and clear out my scrapping clultter :)
My shopping days will be:
Valentine's day
Mother's day
August 28
Christmas
2 days TBD

I will only purchase adhesive, cricut blades & mats, plain cardstock (only if a specific color is all gone), scrapbook pages and page protectors.

:welcome: Welcome Raestoirm and wdwmickey!

So I went to Hobby Lobby for Cricut mats (they are the only ones that have the 12x12 mats) and for some felt that I have been thinking about for at least a month now. They let me use my 40% off coupon on the mats!!! :cool1:

I then went to Michaels for the embellishment jars that I needed. I found a really cute handled basket with a liner that was in my basket because it was 50% off. I really wrestled with if I should get it. So I told myself if I could think of something to use it for then I could get it. I couldn't think of a thing. So back it went on the shelf. It felt really good leaving knowing that I got what I came for!!

OMG a DIS board ban??? I think I would just die from withdrawal!!
Welcome back, welcome aboard! I can't wait to see what you create!

but didn't fall off the ban wagon. ;) It was Christmas paper 90% off, at CVS (sorry Nancy, I know you are annoyned with them but I needed to pick up a prescription). All the Christmas stuff was marked down.:thumbsup2 My first bargain of the New Year. I know, I know, boooooring.

I was good today. I went to the LSS and bought only cardstock I needed for specific layouts as well as a couple of sheets of paper for some specific layouts. And the best part was that it was double punch day and I filled up my punchcard which means I have $10 to spend there! :yay:

I was feeling really down this morning and I had to go do a pain in the neck errand. On my way home, the thought crossed my mind that a trip to ACM would cheer me up. Then I thought about how I didn't want to have to come here to confess, so I went home instead:). I even worked on a layout that I should be able to complete tomorrow.

I'm glad I'm on the BAN wagon:).

went to wal-mart today, ours is just lousey for scrap stuff, only got some page protectors.

on a good note......had everything I needed for one of my character swap, so no $$ spent on that one, just the $3.10 I had to spend on cardstock for the other character.

Raenstorm, I'd buy the stuff if its cheap and put the savings away to spend on your honeymoon. The more walking etc you do the sooner you can open that baby and then your pages will fly out :thumbsup2

I'm being good, but its hard! When I get bored at work I think about having a little peek at online stuff, and yesterday i saw the new Basic Grey line :faint: But I've built myself a wish list and I might forward it to my mother for my birthday instead of her giving me money (she prefers to get me a present).
