2007 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Program Online now! (spoilers within)

lol, like I could resist clicking. ;) Thanks MAtt!

This "wave start" for the half marathon sounds interesting... looks like 0600, 0610, 0630 start times depending on which wave you are in, with your wave assignment based on your finishing time... Wonder how that's going to turn out... The elites will be in DW around mile 6 before the last wave even starts! Most likely everyone in the last wave will be able to see the early finishers on the way back before they get up to the branch off towards the Contemporary near the TTC...

Hopefully the wave start will alleviate some of the congestion on the half. Last year my wife and I did Goofy. Even though we turned in times from the previous year, we still got stuck in corral H for the half. It took us 26 minutes to get to the start line, and literally 6-7 miles of weaving through walkers even though we're both runners.

Aren't you able to get your corral changed at the expo based on proof of time that you show there? There were a lot of people doing that at the DL half anyway...

LOL I checked the site before coming here and called Susan. We're excited there will be bananas again!

But we're both nervous about this WAVE thingy  Has anyone had experience with it? I probably shouldn't worry since I was with DL and in the end the wacky Corrals actually worked very very well but hey anything new makes me nervous! LOL So are we excited about this change?

Neat idea loading on the site though, loved it!!!!

I know they do the Wave thing at Marine Corp Marathon. It is hard for the ones starting after the "Official" start b/c the times on the mile markers are based on the 1st wave....WDW may do something for this though..
I hope this does help. Mile 3ish is always really hard b/c everyone is coming together. DH and I will be in different Corrals so DUDE!

OOOH wait....It looks like the wave thingy is just for the 1/2 marathon. Am I right? OUT OF CONTROL!

Question... Why is the 1/2 more congested than the full? Are there more people in the 1/2?

Although I haven't actually run the course, the half appears to have everyone starting on the same stretch, the marathon is split into "red" and "blue" courses, and it isn't until between mile 3 and 4 that the red and blue sides meet up and are running on the same space. So I'm guessing the first few miles of the full marathon are half as crowded as the first few miles of the half marathon.

Looking at blue and red, I must say I'd much rather be on the red side, blue has to run around the same lake you'll be running around during mile 25, I'd rather not repeat that section 4+ hours early. :) Anyone know which corrals are on which course? I assume its something like ACEG and BDFH, but then again it could be ABCD EFGH, who knows!

Yeah, like I could have resisted looking.

I think the wave start could be a good thing.... I heard of some LONG times to get across the line last year. (Jen.... I think it's the single start for the half, as opposed to the split start of the full)

One big thing I caught....

The 2008 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is....

January 10-13, 2008

That's a week later than past years... :guilty:

Kevin

Just wondering...how does the wave thing work? And more importantly (for the penguins) how does it affect the sweepers?? I'm doing the full this year, but inquiring minds want to know......

I have my itty bitty booklet from 2006 and the Corral breakdown for the Full was...

BLUE Start corrals are A,B,C, and D.

RED Start corrals are the Elites, E, F and G corrals.

Does the Half have more racers than the Full? I seem to recall the Half having like 2,000 more.

EXCELLENT point on the Mile Marker Clocks!!! I depend on those things!!! Yeah I know the clocks start with the 1st person crossing the start but I know that if I'm within a certain time I'm doing good and I use those times to push myself. I'm worried I'll look at the clocks and think I'm really really behind and lose the fight before passing Mile 3! Now I'm freaking out! Someone pass the chocolate!!!

KEVIN!!!! THANK YOU for making note of the 2008 dates. When I was looking this afternoon during my lunch I totally missed that and I had wanted to send out an email to my co-workers so they knew my vacation dates thru the 2008 Races. LOL I figured they have been like clockwork on the dates, they sure like keeping us on our toes!

Gonna go back and take a leisurely view of the packet. Did I mention I just love that they added that? LOL

lol Matt!

Kevin - Good catch! I think that would actually work better f orme. 2 weeks to work after taking xmas week off. ;) I really hope taht :( doesn't mean you can't do it then.

Blue vs Red - WHile passign the 25-mile marker early was a bit tough, teh WS laggon is totally diff in teh dark. DH adn I both decided the lit up WS made blue the best.

I'm pretty sure it was about 10,00 for teh half and 14,000 for the full, but I'd have to check my DVD. However, teh 2 starts for the full (7,000 each) would have help alleviate the crunch a lot. It as still pretty crowded, though.

Matt, Thanks for sharing your detective skills! :teeth:

Kevin, Thanks for sharing your detective skills too! :teeth:

Ack! Week 2 instead of week 1 in 2008! Why, I think it will be hot! I'd be melting!

I enjoyed running WS in the dark when I got to do it in the dark a.m. my first half. Having already experienced it, not running it this year was ok then. I don't think it is bad to run that 2X though. Once zero-dark-thirty and then when the sun is shining!

And that's my worry. :guilty: Get back from the Christmas/New Years trip on 1/3. Classes start up on January 7th.

Hmmm.. OK, let's think this through..... Attend classes on M/Tu/W... catch the last flight to MCO on Wednesday night or the first one Thursday morning.... run the full on Sunday and then catch either a late night Sunday flight or one early Monday morning...... I could do that on the cheap, right? :confused3 ;)

I thought you were going to be done by then Kevin. Bummer. I'm sure yu could get those flights on teh cheap, though. :teeth:
