I just looked at the 2007 rates and see that for WL (didn't look at AKL) the bunk bed rooms have their own prices.... naturally higher than the double queens in the same category!!!!

Do you think this will help or hurt your chances of getting a bunk bed room?

What do you think of this as an added charge? :confused3

I'm on the fence. I'm wondering if this is just another way for Disney to make yet another buck? :rolleyes1 :stir:

I will admit though it won't stop me from making my bunk bed room ressies. :teeth:

Sound off.

Honestly with all the new room catergory changes I wonder if Disney is getting tired of requests and getting tired of guests being mad when those requests aren't met.

I think it is a way for them to make money on some higher end views that are requested most often and maybe to also help for guests to know what to expect. If you pay for a garden view at the MK resorts (for example) and you know you can pay or an MK view, you won't be disappointed when you don't get it because you know you didn't pay for it.

JMO.

I think that if bunk beds are now their own category, that is a good thing. Then if you are a party that needs them, you would be guaranteed bunks. As for charging extra, it is just supply and demand. From reading on these boards, I think a lot of people like them. I don't anticipate needing bunks-we are a family bed family-because my girls will probably want to sleep together, but if we did want bunks, I would pay.

I think it's an easy way to end the endless stream of requests and irate guests when they did not get them.

There is truly is no reason to contact the resort now with any request. Everything can be handled at the time of booking. I think it would be better to pay and know what you are getting then to hope for it.

I think it is a good thing. Now if you want bunkbeds you pay the price, but you know you are going to get them. Same thing like views, or king beds in the moderates.

No more annoyed people who want them & dont get them. And no more people that go "Huh? bunk beds" when they walk in their room & dont want or need them.

I just saw this, too, and at first I was like "Oh now they're nickel and diming..."

But when you think about it, it is much easier to book a room with a certain guarantee and then deliver at check-in as opposed to trying to grant every guests' requests.

So it makes sense. I see the need for bunkbeds for us in about 4 years, so I would much prefer to pay for it and get what I pay for as opposed to requesting it and then being disappointed at check-in.

From what you describe it sounds like the bunk beds at the WL will be a seperate room category in 2007. So if you book that category you will get your bunk beds. I am willing to bet that Disney was tired of dealing with the people who did not get their "request" for bunk beds and figured if there was that high of a demand for them let's charge more and people who really want them will pay for them.

First and foremost, Disney is in the business to make money.

All they need to do is look at the statistics of guests' requests. If there is that great of a demand for bunks, so much so that they can't fulfill all the requests, then why not add a charge for something that they clearly see guests find desirable?

They probably feel that based on the volume of requests, even with the extra $$ they will still fill those rooms without problems. Its no different than the price increase earlier this year at CRT...ADR requests may be down, but I bet they're still filling the restaurant to capacity.

I think its better this way. You will know in advance what you are getting. Of course they could have done this without raising the price for the bunks!!

we are all pretty much in agreement. I do like the idea of getting bunks for sure. It is only a $20 per night charge and yes there does seem to be quite a demand if the traffic on the DIS is any indication. Maybe they will add more bunk rooms as well?

Thanks for all your opinions.

So everyone please stop making requests. :thumbsup2

If not pretty soon there will be a corner room rate, a top floor rate, a patio rate, at the Polynesian a balcony rate, at the Grand Floridian a dormer room rate, and on and on, :rotfl2:

I can see this being a good thing, now you can get a bunk bed room if that is what you want. We always ask for bunkbeds while at WL, mainly because we have a boy and a girl and prefer them not sleeping together. I just wish they would have offered it in the standard category as well.

I booked POR and I was told King beds were $10 more and most were in perferred, so you pay the $10 on top of the perferred price of rooms. I just went with standard double, I really wish they were queen beds instead of doubles.

I also read that as of 2007 there wont be any bunk rooms in standard ( non savannah) at AKL.Im guessing that they are going to move the bunks to the savannah view rooms to accomodate higher demand for them there.
I dont really mind the changes. No one likes higher rates but im happier paying for exactly what i want rather than hoping for something i want and possible not getting it after i shelled out all that money.I honestly wish that the GF MK view rooms were a catagory this year so i could get that, rather than hope for it.

Exactly. This is also why the definition of "preferred" changed at Pop and ASMo...

Not sure about AKL but WL has never offered bunk beds in the standard rooms.

At least you will know for sure what you are getting. At DisneyLand you can book the Grand Califonian for 5 people and you may get a room that sleeps 5 or you may get 2 queens and a sleeping bag! I would have gladly paid more to guarantee I'd have a 5th bed but there will not guarantee anything but a sleeping bag. We had to switch to a different hotel to make sure someone wasn't on the floor.
