I figured since there's a Spurs thread and a Cavs thread, I'd try to merge them into one thread for discussion (try to keep it civil ;) ) about the NBA Finals, starting Thursday night. :thumbsup2

Predictions anyone? I'd love to be able to say the Cavs will win, but I have to say while I think they have a shot, most likely this is the Spurs' year. I'm going to guess it will be over in 6.

But I also think people should get used to seeing the Cavs for years to come. :thumbsup2

I say six as well, but with the Cavs coming out on top. I personally can't see the Spurs being able to win using their usual style, and IMO they are not capable of mixing it up anymore.

Spurs in 5. I'm a Rockets fan living in Spurs country. I'll be pulling for the Cavs to pull the upset. However, the Spurs look unbeatable right now.

Haven't really kept up with the NBA this year, but I am rooting for the Cavs. It's nice when a new team wins (except when playing against one of MY teams ;) ).

Spurs in 4! :cheer2:

Oh wait...really Spurs in 7. Yes I think it'll take 7. We will need Ginobli to step it up and well as some of the bench like Barry. Tim and Parker have had solid numbers throughout the playoffs but they need to stop the stupid mistakes the made during the Western Conference Finals. Fab can't clean everything up.

Lebron is dangerous but he needs help from the rest of the team. He can't be left to score 1/2 the point every game. The Cavs also only have 1 player with Finals experience. They have a lot of heart but that could get them in serious trouble.

More than 1/2 the Spurs team already has rings. Experience is a big deal in the Finals. I wouldn't count out Horry's 6 rings. They can play smart. They want to win and know they can.

Game 5 (and really, just the end of the 4th Q and Overtimes) was really the only time where LeBron took the whole team on his shoulders like that. The rest of the Pistons series, others (like Daniel Gibson Sat. night) stepped up and contributed.

I agree with you on the experience, though. Most of Cleveland was expecting the Cavs to be in the Finals by next year, not this year. They're a little ahead of the timetable that most expected, but then again, that makes them dangerous as well. There really is not pressure on the Cavs -- if they do lose this series, it will still be considered a really successful season. The same probably couldn't be said about the Spurs.

Oh, so those are the teams in the NBA Finals? haha, I didn't even know...shows how much I follow the NBA.

Go CAVS!!!!!!!!! :yay: Every team has to win it the first time and I hope this is the first time for them!

Having no playoff exeprience really hurt them against the Pistons.

I think it's important to remember that the Cavs were one missed shot, and one really bad no call away from sweeping a team with hundreds of games of playoff experience.

It's been awhile so I really have to wonder of people have forgotten how far one true unstoppable superstar can carry a team in the NBA. Especially if the other team is a real average team on offense like the Spurs.

I was completely uninterested in the NBA, until I saw the highlights of Lebron the other night. Wow, he is FUN to watch!! I'm going to watch the finals now just because I want to see what this guy's gonna do next!

::yes:: Good point. I'm glad in the post-game press conference (after the series was over and they didn't need to hold back), LeBron came out and said that they felt they "won" all 6 games, they just couldn't get the shots to fall until Game 3. :thumbsup2

It will be interesting to see how the Spurs offense reacts to a defense like nothing they've faced so far in the playoffs. The Cavs are playing probabaly the best defense of anyone right now. :)

I think it's really telling that the people who get paid to find faults in the way teams play could only rip into Lebron for passing the ball to a guy who missed a shot. Had Marshall made that shot we could have been looking at a sweep and pretty much a flawless series form the Cavs.

This is how teams with a true superstar did it. While some of the Bulls teams might have a had a little more talent and experience, the real key is the team simply playing superstar ball correctly. Right now the Cavs are doing it perfectly.

I'm saying the Cav's in 6!

We match up very well against the spurs. Drew/Z can keep duncan in check and tony parker is no billups so huges and ****ie should take care of him. Bowen can't even begin to stop Lebron. (don't forget we beat them both times we played in the regular season-even if it's a different season now)

We all know we play better Defense then any team they played on their road to the finals.

Don't forget we just played a team that playes better defense then the spurs and has more shooters(that we shut down) The spurs just played the lame carlos boozers...er Utah Jazz. We are comming of a much tougher series whey didn't have to play all that hard against utah...so them comming in hot...to me is more like them coasting in against a bad team. (ala cavs vs wizards in 1st round)

It will be a great finals, but the Cavs will win!!

I want the Cavs to win but I really dont think they will for two reasons. Spurs are playing dirty and are getting away with it. And two, they have the refs on their sides. I'm just hoping Cavs will win at least 1 game. I'd love for them to bring back the title for us Ohioans but I dunno. Oh wait! This season, Cavs are 2-0 against the Spurs! Maybe that'll help? lol.

I really want the Cavs to win in 4. I will be in Cleveland the night of Game 5, but i will be at a concert and it will drive me nuts that I can't watch the game. :happytv:

Where's the concert at? Not The Q, I assume, since Game 5's scheduled for Cleveland.

I was at an Elton John concert during the 1995 World Series. Elton was funny -- he kept giving scoring updates throughout the concert, but admitted that he was rooting for the Braves. :p :sad2:

As an NBA fan without no preference for either team, I'm looking forward to being entertained! The best offensive player in the game against the best defensive team.

I really appreciate the way the Spurs play. Except for Manu's excessive flopping!

But, it would be fun to see a new team win a championship. The Cavs are due, and as a Timberwolves fan, I feel for the fans of teams who have REALLY paid their dues!

That is funny about Elton John...I'm guess the concert will be at the house of blues.

Anyone else thats up here plan to go watch the games int he courtyard between the Jake and the Q if we are close to winning it?

BTW if you guys like the East Champ Banner i made for my signature your welcome to use it.

Also wait until you see the one of Gibson I did for my DW(who I'm sure will post on here sooner or later.)
