I know this is probably not happening. I have been following the 2006 member cruise and almost booked it when the waitlist came through. However, I do not want to take the kids out of school. DH feels that the kids have already had the whole summer off, how can you justify taking more days off in October!!

It seems that it is possible for the 2007 curise to take place for 10/21-10/25 or something like that, I know we will never be able to go unless it is in the summer.

Many members have kids and how I wish they can have it during the summer so everyone will have a chance to even consider going!!!

I would be nice if they moved the dates around a bit, but they'll probably always be on a 'slow' season since they know they have a bunch of DVR's that will be more then happy to fill the boat in a few hours.

I am sure they could have it during the summer, but this cruise already has a premium cost. If DVC charters the boat during Disney's HIGH season then the Cruise line is going to want a LOT of money which translates into a LOT of points and/or dollars to go on it.

it will be nice if they could move it to the summertime also it will be nice to have a 7 night.

Don't hold your breath!

Make your own arrangements! Get your friends and family together and sail when you can!

After this member cruise, it was DVC that made it, it was the people that I was sailing with!

Member Cruise = One Big Sales Pitch!

Do tell Scratch. I had ressies for this cruise and had to cancel. I've been avoiding the member cruise thread, because I've been so down about it. Was it really that bad?

We're FL residents and I can normally get a really good cruise rate. Did you not think the Member Cruise was worth the extra bucks/points?

I would also like to see a date that is more "school friendly". Perhaps it would be nice if they could schedule two member cruises -- one that is geared more towards adults traveling without children, and another that has more family activities.

We sailed both SSMC05 & SSMC06 and the two could not compare to each other. While SSMC05 was fantastic, I have to whole heartedly agree with Janet in that it wasn't DVC that made this cruise, it was the people we sailed with. If it hadn't been for our DIS friends, the cruise would have been a bust.

The planning team did not have the warm and fuzzy feeling to it at all. On SSMC05, they went out of their way to talk to the members who were sailing with them. This cruise, they didn't. Even Jim Lewis' presentation didn't reflect how DVC changed his vacations personally with his family which he talked about during SSMC05. Jim's presentation introducted his DVC Team, which while nice to know, didn't do much for me as a member.

The SSMC05 themes were smooth and the gifts went along with the theme of the day. While we received nice gifts this cruise, they didn't come close to comparing what we received last cruise. We received golden Mickey ears, which seems to us to be left overs from last year. We did receive pins each night which were nice.

The first day, we entered our stateroom to find huge Mickey boxes filled with items. Unfortunately, when DVC told us to bring an extra suitcase for the goods, none of us had any idea that we were going to receive items which didn't pack well. One family ended up throwing their boxes out as they had no way to get them back home. :( It would have been better if the gifts could have stacked together or collapsed some how.

The underlining feel, to me, was that it was a soft sell on DVC. They talked about how WE as members should add on. There was a presentation done at the end of On the Nose, which I personally missed, that was a very hard sell for DVC. A totally unexpected approach as that has never been DVC's position before. Sadly, I hear that's the new trend.

Was it worth the premium we paid --- not to us.

Will be sail again on a DVC Member cruise in the future? Probably not.

I personally had the feel as if DVC did not want return cruisers on their future cruises. With 100,000 plus members and as quickly the cruises have sold out in the past, they certainly don't need our repeat business in order to sell out. And, my personal opinion was that they didn't strive to have us return next time.

The other thing that didn't sit right with me was the total lack of information regarding DVC at AKL. If it wasn't for these boards, I wouldn't know that was even a future option. I'm sure the overall purpose of that lack of announcement was to have people still continue to add on at SSR. While we LOVE SSR, it would have been nice to be an educated consumer if we were in the market to do an add on.

There was also a fiasco of a treasure hunt done on our second CC day. There were 70 rocks placed on the island to be found (which I heard were left in very obvious places). Most of them were gone with in minutes. When we arrived on CC during SSMC05, there were DVC Beach Balls laying all over the beach. I truly expected this treasure hunt to be the same type of event but it didn't even come close. I never would have mentioned it to my DS6 if I didn't think that he would be able to find a special rock as a keepsake to take home. Good for him, he found one he liked anyway that satisfied his hunt.

The other thing that I really have a gripe about is the lack of information we received from DVC during the planning stages of this cruise. Emails were not very timely and some of them included information which was after the fact. Excursions were cancelled for some members very close to our sailing, because we didn't get into CC until 10:30 on our first CC day. DCL went ahead an cancelled the excurisons which were in conflict of this arrival time, with no other options for those impacted.

We were also informed the night before our second visit to CC, that if we booked mulitple days for items such as snorkel rental, tube rent, bike rental, that they would discount these items for us. To me, these little issues should have been worked out long before the night before -- way back on excurison booking day.

The highlight of this cruise was the presentation by Roy Disney. That I will give the DVC planning team a big thumbs up for arranging. :thumbsup2

I sincerely had a lot of regard for Jim Lewis and the planning team from last year that they considered their members to be of value to them. I can't say that I feel that same way today.

Again, just my honest opinion.

Yeah, what she said!

Plus, being a "Member" and then being told by CM at Mickey's Mate that I could not buy the special DVC Pin because I wasn't on the Member List that they were given.................Well to say the least, was not impressed!

Someone did not do their job properly! Did it ruin my cruise, no, but it's the small details like that I will remember and when someone asks about DVC, I'll keep my mouth shut from now on! My new motto, I don't get anything for referring, so I won't! Hey, I'm not a Member! Right DVC! :lmao:

Thanks to the Gentleman who vouched for me that I did get on because I was a Member! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We had a group picture on Pirate Night, guess how Mickey was dressed? Formal Wear! :confused3

Details, Details Details!

Thanks for all your responses. After reading the feedback on the member cruise thread, I sure hope DVC will take it to heart and make the next one better.

If there is a summer one, it will be too hard to not to book it, just to try it out.

Happy Halloween Everyone.

My 2 girls will be dressed like pirates with their pirate hat with Mickey ears on top, and all the accessories from their Pirate cruise while at Disney this past summer. :)

It should be beautiful weather here. Enjoy!!

I went on all 3 member cruises and fouind all of them to be wonderful.
On the first 2 cruises they did a member sell in the invatation only presentations.
I fhink the selling tatics were just the same.
Last year before they drew the winner for the Interval vacation, they gave the same speil about adding on points.
And did we cruise for the gifts??
No, we cruised to be able to relax and spend time with family and friends.
I read one post where someone compained about the lack of banners and how it might make someone not cruise again,, to me thats plain silly.
DVC didnt have to give us ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!
ANd to complain about the gifts to me is being ungrateful.
I treasure each gift and am thrilled that I was able to go on the crusie/
I talked to one CM and the legal deptmartment is not allowing them to say to much about the VAKL.
It would have been great if Jim Lewis had made an announcement. but that was not to be. Did I enjoy the talk. yes...
Would I go on the next one,, In an instant, even if we didnt get any gifts at all
Because it was fun taking to other members and finding out how they use their membership.
AS for MIckey being dressed in formal wear on priate night sounds more like DCL then DVC
and maybe some of the lack of info came from DCL being slow to give it to DVC team.
So you can count me as a happy cruiser.

This was a Charter, where DVC was the one running the show, not DCL!

Why do you think they had two different surveys! One did not want to reflect on the other! ;)

Having been on all 3 member cruises I would say I'm pretty much in the middle as far as the debate here. I don't think the 2006 cruise was a great from a DVC perspective as the 2003 and 2005 ones. However I also don't think it was so disappointing as to make me not want to go again.

My two biggest disappointments with this one were in communication and details.

For communication it would have been helpful if we heard things from DVC before the timelines for WDW and DCL. In 2005 we had a DVC party the night before. OK so they didn't do one this year - no big deal but it would have been nice to know before the booking window for WDW dining so we could make plans for dinner that night. Since we didn't hear anything we went ahead and made them, but it would have been nice to know for sure. Same with excursions and Palo on DCL. It would have been helpful to know that we weren't getting in the first day until 10:30 and that there was going to be a group picture at 10am on the second day BEFORE we booked excursions. Again we guessed based on past experience but how about new cruisers. While we were getting ready for the group picture a group went out on the eco tour. Maybe they didn't want to be in the picture, but how sad if they did but had booked the tour not knowing about the picture.

As for details - I think much of that was due to bad communication between DVC and DCL. For example our embarkation picture didn't have anything special on the frame like in 2005. Instead it had a normal 4-day frame including the fact that we were going to Nassau (which we weren't). Our lanyards had generic cards in them instead of personalized ones with our names and home towns. There were no special touches on the dining like the white chocolate discs we had on SSMC03.

Did any of these ruin the trip for us? No not really
Did we think that this cruise was as good as the previous 2? Again not really

However what did make this cruise magical for us was the great group of DISers that joined us. We made buttons for 153 DISers and had 91 linked for early dining. Friends make any vacation better.

DVC did a lot right on this cruise as well. The Roy Disney talk was a definate highlight. We loved the concert featuring Jodi Benson and Jennifer Hudson. I also enjoyed the presentation given by WDW Ambassador Michael Collier. To me this is what makes a DVC cruise special.

We definately plan on trying to get on SSMC07 when it is announced. I have outlined most of the above in a letter I'm sending to DVC. Hopefully they will review the feedback from all the members not only through letters but also the surveys left on the ship. With that I'm looking for the next Member Cruise to be even better!

Mary, well put.

I really wanted to go see the WDW Ambassador, Michael Collier but having a Cabana Massage at 2:00 p.m., there was no way in that relaxed state that I would have made it!LOL

Unfortunately, unless they have cruises when kids are out of school, :confused3 , this will be it for 3 years! :sad2:

But after that, I'm going Back! :woohoo: :woohoo:

I am a firm believer that you make your own fun! Which we did!

The first member cruise was February, the 3rd was late October - wasn't the 2nd one in September?? In any event, it's not the same time each year so projecting Oct dates in 2007 doesn't make much sense. It's possible they won't even do a cruise - although, based on the success of them we'll probably see one.

As for the school issue - the cruises have always been in the "lower points" periods...off season. I did the 1st one, along with many dvc friends, and they left the kids at home (or with relatives) and enjoyed an adult-only cruise for a change. They loved it, and it was really nice having so fewer kids on board. It was just a different atmosphere that cruise. Those of you with kids, consider doing a parents-only cruise (they're short cruises anyway) and book a 7-night with the kids when they're out of school.

Hi Sue - long time no type at. The reason people are thinking the next one will be October 21, 2007 is that a TA has already leaked that the ship is chartered for that date and the charter is with DVC. DVC hasn't confirmed it yet, however.

At least not officially they haven't confirmed it, but I did hear about it from a neighbor who happens to be a DVC Member who received her info from MS. Go figure.
