2007 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC07 - October 21, 2007

Hi Diana and Tom:

Was taking about you last week w/my sister when I was in Orlando before we left for the Wonder. Were your ears burning??????????? ha ha

We were at VWL - love that place

yep, there are mixed emotions about the BAll. I was standing on Deck 4 overlooking the Atrium this past weekend and saying "no way". It looked so small. No one will be seeing what you wear anyways - there will be so many people around.

I know normally on the 4 night cruise there normally is no formal night but the DVC website is talking about a formal ball in the Atrium one night. I am thinking about just wearing a dress shirt and slacks are others dressing up? What about the people who never read the article?

Here is what is says for Day 3 on the DVC Cruise Site:

Then in the evening, honor Disney's greatest contributors at our Legends Ball. This elegant affair promises to sparkle so don your finest gowns and formal wear and join us in the ship's atrium. You'll enjoy music and dancing as you mingle with other Members and revel in a host of surprises. It's the perfect way to honor Disney greatness, so don't miss this glittering event.

Amanda and I are 29 day out from WDW! WOW how time has flown by.

I am going out today to look for something to wear for formal night. Thinking cocktail attire.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Annette

Okay, I have three fish extenders and Kay must have at least a couple.

Is there a way to get more "fish" outside our stateroom door? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

And yes, I'm game for the fish extender thingy!

Can someone please tell me what "fish extenders" are? Guess I'm naive up here in Maine! Also, does anyone remember if the staterooms have hair dryers?

YES the staterooms have hairdryers. I have really thick hair. I about burn my hand though before my hair is dry. They tend to get "hot" as they are not the traditional hair dryer that we are used to.

You can go to this link to find the origin of the fish extender as well as pictures of the original and then variations of the extender as people started making them once the originals were no longer available. It has become quite a phenomenon on some of the Disney Cruises we have been on. Fish extender contests, tours around to all the stateroom doors to look at them, gifts, etc.

If you bring you own hair dryer, bring a small outlet strip. Our hair dryer plug doesn't fit the outlets on the ship.

I remember hair driers on the Magic in Jan 2005...
I can't believe we're only about a month away! I've sent the kids to grandparents for the day to organize my closet so I'll be able to pack... I don't get that kind of cleaning done usually as a homeschool mom, but when they go to their grandma and grandpa's for a day or two, I can get all sorts of organizing done. :woohoo: Problem is, I'm years behind :rolleyes1
Hoping to have a more regular (though even more busy) schedule now that school semester activities are started so I can check in here from time to time. Bummed to learn of launch delay but now, rather than heading for Port Canaveral early for the launch and avoidance of traffic, we can stay in WDW for the afternoon meet pre-cruise. :thumbsup2

I'm trying to catch up somewhat - so now I've got a few questions. I'm sure I'll find more questions and answers and ideas as I read further back too.
Dressing up - am going on 40th Bday (cheap long-weekend with "the girls" only) cruise soon so have a dress I bought for that. It will be worn at V&A prior to cruise, at Palo and I suppose at the DVC evening event about which I have not even read. Sounds like it may be all I have to pack ;) I seem to have missed a DVC member cruise email but will go to our DVC link to read it...
I need to make a funky fish extender...
What time is the parking lot party? I don't think we'll be there early enough since we're leaving the car at the Sheraton at the Port and are reserved on the earliest shuttle to Port Canaveral - no idea (yet) what time that will be or if I can even get from shuttle drop off to the super-secret-double-probation early arrival DVC party parking lot!
Gifts - found a few vague references, but am just not "getting it." I am not technically savvy enough to make buttons. Can someone please give me some ideas of what has and has not been done in the past and where do I find a list of everyone. (...tell me I don't have to keep a running list as I read the board  ) more later as I get caught up...

Thanks all for the info on the atrium event shirt and pants it is for me save on packing.

Yes there are hair dryers in all the rooms i am an avid user of them on the cruise as i hate wet hair.

Thanks Again

Tom

PS Diana says hi

Hi to all DVC Cruisers pirate:

Are we ready to leave now, instead of a month from now :hourglass ?

From the response, it looks like there is interest in doing the fish extenders. Sounds like fun! I would be willing to keep a log/list of all staterooms and people who are participating in the program. This will help us know the amount of fish food needed.

If this is acceptable to everyone. I am asking that you e-mail me at themallons@aol.com if you would like to particpate. The catch will be reeled in on October 7, 2007.

Please e-mail me your stateroom and number of fish extenders per stateroom. :grouphug: After 10/7/07, I will email the respondents with a list of participating cruisers so we can know the amount of surprises to pack.

Let's make this a great fishing expedition!

If you have any suggestions, I am open to hear them as this is new to me as well!

Thank you,
Pauline

Good morning everyone!

Hopefully I can help with a few questions here.

1) The parking lot party isn't really a party. More of a lets not sit in our cars and wait when we could be standing in the parking lot and talking to other DISers. :lmao: Please don't think you are missing anything big.

Fish extenders and gifts. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The fish extender is just for fun. Outside each stateroom is a message fish. It is where DCL will leave you little notes if needed. The extenders hang from them (thus the name fish extenders) and some DIS groups have started exchanging little gifts to the DIS families in their fish extenders. I think some of the things exchanged are magnets, pens, pirate goodies, candy, etc. You mentioned buttons and I think that comes from my comment that our buttons are the gift we give to all the DISers whether they have a fish extender or not. We give them out at the meets and they are personalized with your DIS name and real name. It is a way for other DISers to recognize each other (assuming of course you wear it - we like to wear ours right on our lanyard so we don't have to put any holes in our clothes). So we'll have our fish extender out but our gift (the buttons will be given out earlier).

Hope that helps.

Question..on the fish extenders. Can you explain on what you mean by how many fish extenders per state room. Wouldn't there only be one perstateroom. Or do you mean how many people?

NOrmally there is one fix extender per room, but you can have as many as you want - doesn't mean there will be all full :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I will be bringing some of the yellow electrical strips so that you can secure the fish extender outside your room - Some of them have been know to float away at times. Easily removed at the end of the cruise

Kay, shall we have two fish extenders hanging from our fish? I can bring one of mine. Which one are you bringing? Do you want me to PM Pauline, or do you want to PM for both of us since I can't even remember what stateroom number we are in? My brain is working overtime at work! :3dglasses

Wow - everyone is so quiet. I thought with some news everyone would be excited and talking about it. I, for one, am totally looking forward to Marty's presentation. I will admit when Trishy first mentioned him I didn't know who he was but reading that he's been involved with every park opening....that is amazing! I've always enjoyed the presentations by the WDW Ambassador's and can't wait to see what info Marty gives us. Great job DVC!

Now who else do you have for us? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Marty was in Detroit last year and I missed seeing him. He was at the Ford?? museum with that traveling Walt Disney thing that was going on for a minute. I forget.

I thought it was him from the picture but wasn't really positive.

I think it will be quite interesting too.

I haven't heard of Tim O'Day before. Wonder if there will be anymore.

OH, I just read that a little more thoroughly and he is a host that will interview some more legends. That is fun.

We decided to do mickey not so scary on Oct 18th. Anyone else going.

Amanda

I haven't had the time to look them up yet. First reaction is very underwhelm and disappointed. I plan on seeing everyone I can. To me right now until I get to check later, it is much ado about nothing right now. Sorry if I am a wet blanket right now.
