2007-2008 cheer parent thread

Just wanted to wish everybody a Happy New Year and great success in the upcoming competitions in 2008!

We have our first in 2 weeks, just a small regional one, but the kids are so excited. Then another one in January, one in February and then ....

Off to Disney World for Nationals in March! Sheesh, this cheerleading is Expensive! Just booked flights from Denver to Orlando for 6 people. Ouch!

Have to do a small brag on the other teams in the gym. They did so fantastic in Vegas last month! They brought home 2 National Championships, 2 second places, the Sportsmanship award (the most coveted in our gym), a Grand Championship and the first World bid ever for any Colorado team.

The other teams in our gym are so inspiring to the special needs team. We love to watch them!

goofy!, congrats for your gym getting a first bid to Worlds!! Worlds is unbelieveable!! The amount of talent is, let's just say, jaw dropping!!

tntcheermomof3..............see you in Atlanta!! I think we are staying at the Omni!! What divisions are your girls in?

Next comp for us is Cheersport Regional on 1/12 then Spirit Sports 1/19-1/20 then Athletic in Providence 2/3-2/3 then Cheersport in Atlanta!

Injuries (2 ACl's, ankles, wrists, shoulder) and illness (DD is one!!! strep, pneumomia, bronchitis) have plagued DD's team and lots of changes are being made tomorrow!!! Hoping we will be healthy for Atlanta!!!

Wishing you cheer parents a spirited season with loads of happy kids!!! and Bids to Worlds!!!!

I tried to post a picture under my signature but only could get a link.

We'll see you at Cheersport! Although, we'll be on early =) I'll definitely be staying late in the day in Providence to see the level 5 teams. I made a hotel reservation for that reason! Providence is only a 25 min drive for us but I'm staying so I can see the good stuff LOL!!!

brenrn............see you at Athletic in Providence!! We usually don't spend the night due to drive only being about 45 minutes for us!! Last year I got a flat tire when we left and we got home after 1 AM!!!! DD's will most likely be one of the last teams to go on due to them givning away paid bids to Worlds. Rumor has it that World Cup and possibly Maryland Twisters (heard yes and no for them............love their F5 team!!!) along with South Jersey Storm and East Elite will be there!!! It should make for a fierce competition for the World bids and a GREAT show for the fans!! All teams are fabulous!!

Just found this thread and can't believe I missed it. My DD is in her first year as a high school cheerleader and qualified to participate in the pre-game show at the Capital One Bowl on the Varsity Spirit Team on New Year's Day in Orlando on Tuesday. It was sooo cool to see all of the girls perform on the field. They did such an awesome job. You could tell they all had fun performing, and you could tell that all of their hard work paid off.

This was our first experience at something like this. It was sponsored by UCA/UDA, and I found it to be a very professionally run event. We got Disney tickets as part of our package deal, and we had first timers to Disney go with us. It's so much fun to watch people who have never had a Disney experience.

I was curious if anybody else out there participated in this event or something like it?
:cheer2:

Hi Rosemary, I must have missed this the first time around =) We'll be at Cheersport this weekend so we'll see you there!

Good luck!!!

How are JamFest competitions? We have never done them before because of the cost, but this year we are doing mostly "big" competitions. My daughter's teams always place well at nationally sponsored competitions, but place horribly at the local ones...with local judges.

Melissa

There are really fun. Lots of cool giveaways and lots of extras like lights, smoke etc... One of our faves. Very well run :goodvibes

So no one's team does survival bags? I really need some ideas. Thanks.

We do...well the team mom does lol:

Extra bows/ribbons
clippies
bobbi pins
hair ties
band aids
nail polish remover
x-tra socks
Safty pins
water
hair spray
glitter makeup
lotion
wet wipes
NAIL CLIPPERS!!!!! lol
Ice pack
Phone list of all parents cell numbers (or whoever is at the comp with them)
Tampons (we are a Sr. Team)
Pads

I think that about covers it

Ooooh I saw your DD's team compete at WSF! They did awesome! Congrats on the worlds bid...totally deserved! It was quite the topic on the prox message boards with the ICE thing.
My dd cheers for Edge Elite and our home revolves around cheer!! LOVE IT!

Next one for us is Jamfest SuperNationals!

Will anyone be at the WSF Indy Showdown in Indianpolis this coming weekend? DD's team will be competing for a bid to World's!!! My nerves are already shot as she is just recovering from a back injury and she is a flyer!! Her back flexibility is still not quite where it should be but as long as she is safe and stays in the air I will be happy. In time, she will be back to 100%!! She has also changed her tumbling to a safer pass for this competition until she is fully recovered!!!

I can't believe the season is under way already!!

Good luck everyone and keep posting accomplishments!!

Yes Markiesgirls, quite the topic on the Pro X message board. I had the opportunity to speak with quite a few member so the ICE coed team and they were not at all upset!!! It is funny how just a few can start such drama!! LOL!! ICE coed was fabulous and if not for their tumbling collision (thankfully both were fine, a little shaken but fine) and a fall they may have pulled ahead!! It is just so early in the season and ICE did get an at large bid. No doubt they may get a paid as the season continues. They are awesome.

brenrn, my daughters team pulled from the Cheersport regional this weekend due to injuries/illness etc!!! I don't mind so much as I rahter stay home and watch the Patriots vs. Jags!! LOL!!

Next stop for us is Spirit Sports in Worcester then Athletic in Providence (which looks like it will be full of talent all across the divisions!!!)!!!

Stay healthy everyone!!!

Just wanted to share that my daughter's mini 2 team came in first at Cheersport Regionals this weekend =) They also had the 2nd highest score of the day out of all 41 teams levels 1-5!!! Woo hoo! Our youth level 2 had the highest score and our Junior 4 had the 3rd highest....it was a great day!!!! Can't wait for Spirit Sports this weekend!!!

Congratulations Brenrn on such a successful competition for your daughter!!!

Stephanie's team does not have to be to Worcester until 6:30 PM on Sat and Sun as they don't compete until 8:36 or so (last team to compete)!!! Still nursing some injuries and hoping that tomorrow's practice will find them all able to compete otherwise I am not sure what will happen!! But, the coaches always seem to have an answer and never look worried!! Me, on the other hand.............I get way too nervous!

As for Providence.............Super Bowl weekend again!!! UGH!!! This is when I wish my DD was a mini/youth cheerleader again!!!! LOL! Hopefully I will see you..........if not, good luck!!!

I am surprised that there are so many local competitions this year. Nationally run comps too. My daughter cheers for Cheerworks in Oxford Ma. Last weekend we were at COA in RI and this weekend we will be in Springfield. We will be in RI for Feb 2 and 3 with you guys though!
