2007-2008 cheer parent thread

She is with Louisiana Cheer Force (Baton Rouge). It's All Star and she is on the Mini level 1 team. This is our first year at this gym but her third year doing it. (she started when she was 4 at Louisiana Flyers).

We are getting ready for December competitons right now so we are pretty much going to have to move in at the gym next month if you know what I mean!!

Where is everyone else from? Anyone competing in Houston or New Orleans this year? I saw someone from Central Mississippi on here. We have seen yall at Deep South in Jackson, MS (I think) when we were with the Flyers.

Today I finnished up my shopping (had to get it done before I pick up my DD and get her to practice)......we leave for our first Disney trip on Monday!!!!:yay:

my two daughters just advanced to the Eastern Conference (pop warner) The camera didn't work too well as they would not let you use your flash but here is a picture of my younger daughters team and their trophy.

That's me! Last year my daughter cheered for Central Mississippi Cheerleading. This year she is with Mississippi Cheerleading Academy. MCA is a new gym here with the old manager of the CMC southside gym.

What competitions are y'all going to this year? Since we are longer at CMC, we won't be doing any Deep South Comps (as the owners are the same).

We are doing:
Athletics in Tunica
Mardi Gras in New Orleans
Athletics in Hot Springs
Beach Jam in Biloxi
Athletics in Destin

We are getting new uniforms this year and everyone has to buy one because there are none to rent or trade so our coach decided to cut back on the amount of traveling that we usually do for this year. We will also be at Mardi Gras in NO and Beach Jam in Biloxi. We have a couple of more in NO including WSA Nationals and we will be at Cheer America in Houston. We were going to go to Athletics in Destin but we switched up our schedule. I will miss going to Deep South......it was a good competition!! Your little girl is a mini also right? Did you say she was on a level 3?

Where is everyone else from?

:welcome:

And have a GREAT time at Disney!!!

We are from Denver, Cheer Central Suns, links are in my siggie. My daughter is on their special needs team. It is our 3rd year on this team.

Our team is doing mostly the local competitions and then we will be going to Nationals in Orlando in March with the rest of the gym.

**update on NBC**

The finally did come out on Sunday and filmed. Since the Denver camera crew had been called out of town the previous weekend, it made for a long day, trying to do two days of taping in one. Especially with 40+ special needs kids. Our team has 18 and we invited the other special needs team (Peak Athletics) to join us.

I must say, the kids were fantastic. Tired after 5 hours of practicing and cheering, but for the most part, they all held up.

Both teams looked great for not really being prepared yet. Both teams weren't planning on being competition ready until January, so the kids really had to work hard to get them camera ready 3 months early and with less than 3 weeks notice.

We don't have an air date yet, but Dawn Fratangelo (the reporter) was wearing a bright orange blazer and one of the cameramen thought it might be around Halloween. We were told it was supposed to air this week, but some have been told that with California coverage, there just isn't enough time.

I will post when we have a confirmed air date. It is amazing what special needs kids can do with just a few weeks notice and when the bar is raised!

Cheer moms:sad2: :sad2: Honestly why must there be moms like this. They ruin it for the whole team. And of course they tell their children how great they are and that everything is someone elses fault. So the kid comes in telling everyone how wonderful she thinks she is and how bad everyone else is. HELLO!! You can not live through your child!! Sit down, shut up and stop talking about everyone else in the gym and her kid. Honestly, it doesn't make your child any better, and just makes you look like a big ole butt.

Sorry. Just had to get that off my chest. Our gym must have more than our fair share of the moms (and a few dads also):rolleyes1

Mom21 bad night at practice??? Sorry!! :grouphug:
I HATE those nights!!
Also I cant stand the moms/Dads that all they do is complain, but they never say it to the coaches they just run around spreading negativity!!!

My DD is on a large mini level 2 squad.

For those of you who asked:

The Cheer Central Suns Special Needs Cheerleading team will be featured on NBC Nightly News TONIGHT, Monday October 29. It is airing at 5:30pm MST on NBC.

My daughter is part of the Suns (white uniforms, red bows).

The black and teal team is Peak Athletics, the other special needs team in Colorado.

I can't believe this is happening to us. I have so many emotion going thru me right now.

Last wednesday my neighbor and I went to talk to the owner of the gym because we hadn't seen our cheer coach sense the middle of October. We thought it was wierd that she wasn't coming to practice and knew something was up. The owner told us she was having problems with the couch and hopefully everything would be worked out and the competition in november was still on.

Ok we left feeling a little better about the whole situatition. So monday this week we go to the gym for practice and the owners arn't there and the doors are locked. I call the number and there is a message saying that they are close today and until futher notice. Yup they closed there doors and didn't bother to tell us.

Heres why I'm upset. Daughter is very upset, she loved going to cheer and doesn't understand why they can't go anymore. The stupid owners took money from all of us (cheer parents). We paid 150.00 for uniform, 40.00 for shoes and 55.00 for the compeitition fee in October. We never received the uniforms or shoes and we didn't go to compeition. I'm out 245.00!

I want to call them to let them know I want my money back. I'm really thinking about getting other parents together and take the owners to small claims court to get our money back. Dh said to wait a few days and see what happens. I'm not sure what to do?

Any advice you all can give me?

sorry for a long post but I had to get if off of my chest.
Thanks

I just went right now to get the phone number for another gym in the same town but it has a reputation as being a daycare like place. It's because they are cheap 45.00 a month. I need to really looking into them before I sign up my dd.

The first gym I was looking at was about 30 miles in the other direction. Was a little more expensive but I went with starlight (I guess I got what I paid for ). I think I'll just enroll dd here just for gymnastics and next year put her on the cheer team. Ugg I'm going to hate that drive!!

Thanks for listening

Y'all have great squads!! We've seen the squad at competitions. My daughter is on the CBC squad from Houma.

She should be very proud of herself!!! :) :)

She is, thanks so much!:cheer2:

I am moving my girls to a bigger, better cheer gym. They do not want to discuss the costs until the try out. This is not how our previous gym worked. Did yours do this??

Are you close to Maine?? Maine Stars are

No our gym tells us up front what they are estimating the costs to be and also how much traveling we will do.

We have a competition tomorrow. It is just a local one at a high school. the kids are really excited. They are having a jump off to waste some time. And we were told 2 cheerleaders from each team could compete and it is free. Well the mom's voted for DS to be one of the members to represent the tiny's. So I am charging the camcorder tonight. I really think I am in for a treat. He just loves to go out there and do his own thing.

But I am not looking forward to the new glitter make-up for DD. I really like the mini's to still look young and I could do without glitter. But that is what they were. Thick sliver glitter above her eyes is just too much. But oh well, she loves it of course.

My DD has a New England Regional competition today for AYF. They already won States in their division. If they place in the top 3 today, we are off to Orlando in 10 days, and I will be begging for money from all of my friends and family. I really dislike fundraising, but I am willing to do it for an organization like AYF/AYC.

Her allstar team has had 1 comp so far this season. They won first and grand champion. So far her teams are off to a good start!:cheer2:
