Hey there!
Yes I'm posting in the middle of the day on a Monday. Nick has had cough and runny nose since Thanksgiving and most of the long weekend a headache and itchy eyes to go with it so we stayed home today and made a trip to the doctors. Luckily it's nothing but I wasn't sure if he had bronchitis since he has issues with that in part due to his asthma.
Awwww, poor Nick!!! I sure hope he's better soon!!!

Well the tree is now decorated and we had one little tragedy. Our one cat, Lucifer, was a bad boy last night and got on top of my entertainment center and knocked an ornament that was hanging from an ornament holder off and it broke. My poor Mickey glass ornament that we got years ago when energizer was doing a freebie thing lost an ear so off to trashland he went. :sad2:
We call those types of ornaments - Bubbie breakers!!! Our cat's name is Bubbie and any glass/breakable ornanment is otherwise known as a Bubbie breaker. We try not to get them very often anymore, but there are still those ornaments that I LOVE that I buy, put at the top of the tree, and hope that he won't bother them. I feel your pain, Stacy!!!

Thank you for the birthday wishes! We spent the day (well and holiday) with my parents and sister/brother in law in Iowa and it was wonderful. Mom made my favorite cake - Red Cake - and we enjoyed the time together!
Ooohh, I love Red Velvet cake!! I've only had it once, but it was very tasty!! I saw that you gave mom's recipe, so maybe I'll have to give it a try this holiday season.

Yippee!! Just to make sure, go out and stalk your letter carrier.

Wait, is he a he and is he cute? ;)
Our mail carrier changes once in while, but he's an older man most of the time. Nice though!!!

Brrrr, be prepared to bring the layers and bundle up. Last night, they were saying it's only going to be in the low 30's on Saturday. :cold: Too bad this weekends weather didn't hold out -- it was absolutely beautiful here.

Annmarie had a great idea in chat the other night. Coleman makes these disposable hand & feet warmer things. You tuck them into your gloves or feet and they warm them up nicely. I figured I'd mention it in case anyone wants to be prepared for the Chicago weather. :cold: .

I feel your pain Stacy. When Penny was a puppy and probably for 2 or 3 years afterwards she would take the glass balls off the tree and eat them. I mean crunch them into little glass bits like potato chips. And Alex still climbs up the inside of the tree and makes himself comfy on the branches and takes a nap. :confused3

Ahh Chip eats ornaments too - bad dog! Jack likes to lay under the tree and bat ornaments which is why we need to baby gate the tree, but then we run out of gates to protect the rest of the house (you know like her food from Chip and well the garbage cans he likes to eat out of - YUCK).

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY DAVID!

Speaking of the red cake, were they able to make it for your wedding cake?

Oops, should have read further before replying. Glad you were able to have it for your wedding. Did they use your mom's recipe?

Oh good idea Mark - I forget that it's not a staple in some homes like it is in mine. Here is mom's receipe. We had it served as our wedding cake as well and while it was good, it was not as good as mom's ;) . I think it's because Disney (and well almost every other baker) refridgerates the cakes and that makes it dry - mom never refridgerates and her frosting is amazing!!!

Julie I love you!!! (don't worry Matt, not that way! LOL!)
Disney did do a good job with your Mom's recipe and I kept wondering how it would taste fresh home made and was going to ask you for the recipe and viola!! Here it is.
I was familiar with Red Velvet Cake but had never made it from scratch before, Betty Crocker or one of those did/does have it out in a box and we tried that once but it doesn't hold a candle to homemade! Nick can't wait to help me make it!!

Yikes, cyber sickness as Cameron's home today with just about the same thing. My Mom feeling was to take him into the doctor over the long weekend, but then I let my 12 year old convince me that it was just a cold. Until today when he got up, took motrin, showered and got ready for school and then all the gunk in his stomach starting coming out.

So, tonight we're off to the doctor. Cameron needs to be ready for this weekend, I hear it's going to be a fun one. :teeth:

I hope Nick's feeling better really soon. pixiedust:

Nick will back to school tomorrow. Some cough medicine and some extra doses on his inhaler and he'll be fine!

Hope Cameron gets better before this weekend!! :wizard:

Hi everyone - just checking in before surgery tomorrow.

I'll be glad to get rid of these stomach problems. If you need an update on me: please send a PM to toddp3

Ok guys, did you see Oprah today??? I spent almost the entire show in tears. What a touching show?!?!?!? It was all about her project that she gave video cameras and $1000 to all of her audience members and told them to pay it forward. It really touched me!! We've always done the "angel" tree, but this year I'm going to try to take it one step further. I've decided to try and collect money & toys from my friends & family here to buy some gifts for the kids at our local children's hospital and homeless shelter. I might not be able to make the same difference that the $1000+ that the Oprah show audience did, but if I can put a smile on just one child's face, then I'll be happy!!!

No one at my entire address (there are 4 CC members) has EVER received a card, LOL...good luck!

Sandy,
Sounds like you had a nice surprise. The only time anyone has ever pulled one over on me is my 40th Birthday. Murt even flew my parents and grandmother in from FL! I had absolutely NO idea..I was blown away as no one had ever done anything like that for me. It makes for nice memories, eh?

Amy, I have it Tivo'd, thanks for the "tear" warning. I often wind up watching her shows in tears. I think that is a very nice thing you are
doing for the kids in your area. I'll try to send a couple extra dollars
down to you with the Tiara money (also some DVD's which DH neglected to send with the CD's :-( )

Cheryl,
:sunny::cheer2::cheer2:Here's hoping for a speedy and painfree recovery. I'm sure you'll be feeling much better!:cheer2::grouphug:
