Good Morning ALL,:surfweb:

This was posted on a budget board which brought something into sharp relief
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=15680160#post15680160

I don't know how many of us have worked or do work in retail. My brief time in retail and seeing what it has done to Karen for the 20 some years that she was in retail management is enough for me. I'm always compelled to say something along the lines of this:

Shop till you drop friends but please give the poor schmuck with the nametag 30 seconds of recognition and a smile.

(Soapbox slid back under the table)

I shopped at Circuit City this Black Friday where I got in line at 11:30PM and stayed all night long. I was in the market for a HDTV and new of an un-advertised special, 50" Samsung Plasma, that was announced online on Wednesday. Apparently neither did most Circuit City employees as it took a few different CC employees before they gave me a straight answer. I did get everything I wanted thru the rest of the store and it only took about 30 minutes to check out. Also, got the free polariod 3.2 MB digital camera that I will give to my brother for Christmas. I received a voucher for the 32" LCD Olevia TV while on line around 4AM when they passed them out but wanted the 50"Samsung Plasma. There were no vouchers for the Samsung and since the TV vouchers were a different line I dropped off the other stuff at the car, went back in, used the restroom (6 and 1/2 hours is a record for me) and got in line to pay for the TV. 1 hour and 15 minutes later and it was my turn to pay. I was able to convince the manager that while not in store stock the TV was in warehouse stock and he was able to override the price so I bought the 50" Samsung Plasma. Because of this I handed my voucher to the people behind me in line who wanted the Olevia and they were thrilled with getting that. By this time it was about 7:45AM and I was dead to the world tired (I fell asleep standing up while waiting to pay for the TV) but I walked around the store and thanked all the employees who helped me and went back yesterday and did the same thing because they were all very helpful. I setup delivery for next Saturday so I won't get it until then which is OK as the apartment needs a good cleaning. After making breakfast I slept all day Friday, went to the Lightning game with Chris who was fantastic company, came back to Lakeland and slept 8 more hours, cleaned for 2 more and slept for 3 more hours. Then, for round 2 of shopping to Beall's for jeans, target for what I could still buy, circuit city as mentioned above and Staples which close at 9PM and I missed that by 15 minutes. All in all I got everything I wanted and am basically done Christmas shopping.

I'm glad to hear the shopping stories as it seems everyone here got what they wanted.

Curt and Karen - I found almost everyone shopping at Circuit City in Lakeland were very courteous to the employees and were mostly mean to each other. I only bumped into one person and apologized for that (I got them pretty good with my basket) and apologized as I cut 2 others off. I even passed out 1GB SD and Cruzer drives out to others waiting in line to check out as I didn't see the 1 per person in the top of the ad. Someone was kind enough to give me a 50 DVD Spindle that's free after rebate while in line. It was so not like Jersey where everyone is out for themselves and the employees here their wrath when they don't get what they were shopping for.

Wow Jeff sounds like you have a very busy but productive weekend. Glad you were able to get your tv that you wanted - pretty cool!

:faint: :faint: :faint: I'm exhausted just reading about all of that :faint: :faint: :faint:

You power shoppers are my heroes!!!

I headed into Target yesterday because we were out of laundry soap :scared: . Walker & I are heading up to Woodfield in a little while. In fact, I best get lighting a fire under him because I'd like to be there before the masses.

We are 95% done with the holiday decorations. Grocery shopping is done. So, all is good around here. When Gary gets back from Cameron's boy scout outing, I'll post a picture of our tree, Diana.

The tree is now decorated and i'm taking a lunch break before we do the rest of the decorating both inside and out. Decorating the tree is the most tedious but also the most enjoyable of all the decorating we do. Definately a time for memories. The oldest ornament in the tree is over 40 years old and was given to me by one of the managers of our local food store when I was just 6 years old and being a good girl and sitting quietly waiting for my mother to check out. It is always the first on the tree. Also on the tree is the full collection of Hallmark Frosty Friends. My mom used to collect them and we have carried on the tradition. Of course we also have a lot of Disney ornaments as well including the DVC 2005 Christmas ornament that we got from Cheryl/Todd last year. I think it is what they were passing out at the DVC Merry Member Mixer last year and since we missed it (we went to Disneyland instead) Cheryl picked one up for us. In fact we have so many now that we don't even put them all up. This year we left off all the Rankin Bass and Star Trek ornaments. Of course one of the ones that has a special place is the CafePress ornament for this cruise. Thanks to all of you who were part of the cruise for giving us such special memories for years to come!

AHHHH thanks for reminding me Mary. I bought the SSMC06 ornament and put it away when I received it with the tee shirts - I have to go find it!

Our family room tree is all Disney ornaments and these gold ornaments my parents give us each year and of course any of Deanna's soccer ornaments. I'm working on the tree in the dining room while John finishes the lights on the house. Then I'll go out and put the lights on the bushes and John gets the fun task of connecting all the electrical cords.

Jeff,
I also got the 1gb cruzer and the 1gb SD cards but I got three of each. There was a 6 pp limit on the SD card and no limit on the cruzer drive here. Funny, huh? WOW, 50" TV, that's got to be cool..you must have a big apartment, eh? We watched survivor last night on Murts 17" computer screen since we missed TIVOing it the other night :happytv: I must admit I was tempted by the 32in Olevia too but it's not to be this year, eventhough it was a very good price. Maybe it will be $100 less next year when we may be in more of a position to think about it. :thumbsup2

Some years we put up a 2nd smaller tree down in the family room. This one is all white lights and Waterford and Belleek ornaments. I call it Mom's tree. However since we aren't going to be home for part of the holidays and since we won't be hosting Christmas this year we won't be putting it up. I'm going to wait a few days to take a picture of the tree. Mark still has to put the monorail under it. Usually we have the Contemporary hooked up to it, but this year he's doing the Poly!

We're still in the process of putting up decorations. We put up the tree last night, but realized that one of the branches is broken, so we need to figure out a way to kind of tie it up for this year. Then, we'll be in the market for another tree (unless our fix-up turns out ok), then I might try to put it off for another year or 2.

And, we got some stuff put outside last night too, but when we went to string the lights around the house the other night, we realized that we had taken down all the hooks we used when we painted the house. So, Chris is finally screwing them all back into the eaves. But, he's leaving in a little bit with Emily to go to the Lightning game, so it probably won't be finished until later this week (hopefully before we leave for Chicago). I'll probably try to put the garland on the tree while Chris and Emily are gone, then we can decorate it later when all 4 of us are here.

:cake: :bday: Happy Birthday Julie!!! :bday: :cake:

Better late then never!

Well the outside lights are done (we had to replace some that went out). The tree is up and partially decorated. We'll keep adding decorations as the week goes on. The stockings are hung and little touches of Christmas are popping up around the house!
Let's keep our fingers crossed that the cats behave for the next few weeks. We have some older wooden disney ornaments we hang low so if they play with anything they won't break it.
Every year my Mom gives myself and my sister a glass ornament and those don't go any lower on the tree then waist high!

A little off topic. Jeff and I did some shopping at Walmart this morning and I couldn't believe it but they had the Cricut there! The machine was $194 and cartridges were $59. I'm asking Santa for Walmart Gift cards! Their prices beat out everyone else around here that carries it!

Happy Birthday Julie and Happy Birthday David

I actually bought a menorah drip tray this year, I saw it at a store and thought it would make cleaning easier. Also I need to have Todd find the Electric Menorah.

Out of everything I miss is the Kosher stores in MA, There is a store in Stoughton/Sharon that makes latkes and a store in Newton which has excellent latkes.

Me too :) Where did I put it? :scratchin

Our tree has changed over the years. We have all the homemade ornaments the kids have brought home over the years. I've made ornaments for each of them as well. They are and always will be my favorites. I also enjoy the ones that are themed towards a person. I have a couple that are daycare related and have the names of the kids written on them.

I have one that was made for me by my great-aunt the year before she died. I was just a teenager at the time yet I've kept that little beaded bell ornament all these years. It always get hung up at the top of the tree along with our "baby angel" ornament. I was just telling Walker today the story about the baby angel and how if God didn't decide to take the baby to heaven, chances are that he wouldn't have been born.

Why are the holidays such a melencholy time of year? :sad1:

The great news of the day is that Walker & I went up to Woodfield and the crowds were not bad at all! We bought what we needed and are probably done with the mall for the season. :woohoo:

Hmmmm - could it be that in 10 days we'll be checking in there? :lmao:

We have our tree up and a few decorations. We usually have 3 trees. Donald Duck for DH, Princesses for DD (which she no longer likes the Princesses:rolleyes: ), and a variety of Disney Characters for the third. We only put one up this year since we will be in WDW for Christmas.

I got out our stockings, Disney Hats and lights for BCV balcony while we are in WDW. We are also participating in the DVC tree swap again this year!

I don't think we will do much outside decorating. We have an inflatable Nativity Scene that will probably go in the front yard and that will be it for this year.

Next year will be about the same since we will be cruising the Carribean with DCL.:thumbsup2

Happy Belated Thanksgiving to Everyone and Belated Birthday wishes to David and Julie.
