Hey all,

Dis-Board green for t-shirt color.

Diana, any chance of some baby sized t-shirts/onesies? Just a thought...

IAN will be soo happy to see the male/female ratio at Flounders...maybe he will have his own personal harem..... I wonder if they have a big screen TV in there, and if he can bring his Sigming Time videos.....

I have a non cruise related question I need help with.

Going to a 1st birthday party this weekend for a little girl (the daughter of one of Mark's cousins). We don't know them that well. What would be a good gift. Thinking along the lines of something from Fisher Price or Little Tykes. Any ideas? Amy & Diana - what do your girls love? Cindy - what is popular in your day care?

Have you ever felt you were the only one online?????

Hmmmmm. If I were an evilsoul,I could use this time to catch up on Post Counts.....Naaaawwwww Better not....

Diana - in looking over what cafepress offers I have one more suggestion. Could you add the white baseball cap? I'm thinking that would be cool with whatever design we pick for the front of the shirt.

Thanks!

Musical Instruments. We have this drum I got in Target and inside it has a maraca, tamborine, drumsticks and a couple of other things. It's Bee themed and called the Bee Band or something like that. Huge hit even today in my house, and Emma got it for her 1st bday. Little Tikes and Fisher Price also make xylophones, pianos all sorts of stuff like that. Give some tylenol to their parents along with the gift! :rotfl2:

Or....there's lots of push toys out this time of year. Little Tikes makes a great shopping cart, that will last forever and she'll use it for years. Fisher Price makes a bunch of different push things that make sounds and music. Those are good because they'll help her with her walking.

I might try my hand at making the Mickey tie dye shirts again!! But, if I mess it up, will you come to my rescue???

Maybe..... :rolleyes1

Chris and anyone else who wants to learn how to make the tie dye Mickey shirts, I can't take credit for the idea --- here's the post on how to do it!
Ilene Fabisch's Mickey Head Tie-Dye T-Shirt

For this project you will need:

Dye colors of your choice in squirt bottles: I found the recommended dye is Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dyes. These dyes don't need hot water and are colorfast. Mix the dye as follows: 2 tsp dye (4 for turqoise) 8 oz water. Some people suggest adding Urea (moisture agent enhances colors)or Soda Ash (roughens fibers so dye sticks). Neither one appears to be necessary.
1 cup soda ash

1 gal water

needle and thread

t-shirts, 100%cotton works best, 50/50 won't hold dye as well.

about 6-10 rubber bands (#2)

rubber gloves

plastic trash bags
Shirt preparation: Prewash to remove "sizing" and preshrink your shirt. Start out with the shirt dry, and then soak it in soda ash after its been sewn and tied.
Take the shirt and draw a mickey head in pencil, on the shirt. You can prepare a stencil beforehand and trace along the edge.
Take a needle and double thread it. Sew a 1/4" - 1/2" basting stitch along the pencil line. A basting stitch is a very simple stitch that goes up & down through the fabric, and will gather the fabric when knotted and pulled tight. Only go through the front of the shirt if that is where you want the mickey to be. Go through the back as well if you want it on both back and front.
After stitching along the complete line, knot it, and pull it tight, so the fabric gathers in a bunch. This part is hard to describe; you are going to pull on the area you just gathered so it is like a pouch and pleat the rest of the fabric, so that you have a long snake like tube. The more careful you are with pleating the fabric along the length of the shirt, the better the final result. Go easy, and take your time.
Wrap a rubber band around the threaded bunch. The tighter the tie, the more defined the outline of the mickey will be.
Place remaining rubber bands in 1"-2" intervals along the rest of the shirt.
Prepare a warm water bath with 1 gallon of water and 1 cup of soda ash. Soak the shirt(s) for thirty minutes. Wring it out or place it in the washing machine, on the spin cyle. You want it damp, but not soaked.
To dye:

Using a squirt bottle, put the color where you want it...for instance my shirt is red, white and blue because we were there for the July 4th celebration..so I used red for the center where I had gathered the mickey shape, then blue, then red, then blue and so on. I did not do white as the shirt is white and I knew that color would be where the rubber bands where holding. Be careful not to get one color on another if that is not the look you want. It's a little difficult to keep from getting the wrong color dye in the next closest section. You can do all of one color and then switch colors to help with this problem.
After dyeing, carefully place the project on a plastic trash bag, and cover it with more plastic. I place a project on one half of a trashbag, and then fold the other half over it. Let it sit for 8-24 hours. The longer the better. This is the hardest part because you so badly want to see what it looks like!
Rinse the project out under cold water. Cut the rubber bands off, or remove them carefully. Continue to rinse the project out until the water runs nearly clear. Wash the project by itself or with other projects in the washing machine.
You can now wear your shirt proudly, and wash it with other like clothing. The dye is permanent and colorfast.
For beginners it might be best to get a simple tie dye kit that has the right chemicals for setting the dye. My kit cost $10 on sale from Kaybee toys and had many colors, the directions, the squirt bottles (like a ketchup container at restaurants) and the chemicals. It was really easy to do. Oh yeah, remember to wear rubber gloves, LOL! Have fun!

Tips from us:
~Use dental floss to baste stitch with... I used thread the first time and it popped! Also the floss will be water proof.
~When you pull the stitching together fold Midkey's ears downwards on the sides of his face. If you do them up together you end up with the spot between the ears.
~Dye the head black (or your Mickey head color of choice) FIRST then tightly wrap up in a plastic baggie. Then have fun with the rest! I found this keeps the color from getting on the rest of the shirt.

Well, I hope that helps! Have fun if you make them... and beware... it's QUITE the mess. But still lots of fun.

Thanks!

Baseball cap.....no problem!

And to answer David's earlier question, one of the reasons why chose cafepress was the availability of little sizes.

The kids in my daycare love anything musical. They make little monkey shaped maracas that were a hit with one of my little daycare boys. Little girls could also get a soft baby doll.

I think sticking with fisher price or little tikes is a good bet. Personally, I like the quality of little tikes better than fisher price. They seems to hold up a little better.

I have no idea what your looking to spend, but if your looking to spent a bit more, there is always something like a wagon. Radio Flyer makes a nice plastic one with seat belts. If I didn't already have the Step2 one with the tag along, I would buy one for my daycare.

There also the Cozy Coupe -- which is another ride on toy that she will grow into. Again, it's a high priced item.

My daycare kids love to play with any type of animals. I think it's Fisher Price that makes a zoo. They also love wood blocks -- the small, traditional cube shaped ones that have ABC's on them.

The kids also gravitate towards things with buttons which make something pop up.

And, anything that plays music --- wind up musical toys they love.

HTH!

Mary, I have one other thought.

When your shopping, there are age ranges on most toys. I would steer away from items that say 6-12 months and target the 12-18 month or 1-2 year range. I always feel it's better to grow into something than to give something that the child has already grown from. Does that make sense?

I agree with Cindy about the age thing. As long as it's under 3, it's not a choking hazard so you'd be good to go there and she can grow into it.

Thanks Diana, I will! I wish it were WDW, but I guess I can't complain too much, work is paying for the whole trip...plus I get paid for the time there. Too bad WDW wasnt a little closer to Destin. Oh Well Memorial Day will be here soon enough!

Hi Mary -

I think that you can't go wrong with anything Fisher Price or Little Tykes. We also love any of the Leapfrog products. They are educational, but fun to play with. The girls both like anything Little People too (which is Fisher Price).

Hi Mary. Ian loves musical instruments. His favorite is a maraca, but he also plays with his tamborine and drum a lot. A couple of favorites that Ian got for his birthday are Learning Friends Phonics Bus (Leapfrog).

and Crazy Legs Learning Bug (Vtech)

There's always books or music CDs too. Ian got CD from his great-aunts that is personalized. Every song on the CD has his name in it several times. Check out http://www.playnames.net/ for more information. (I know it was purchased in a store, not online.)

WOW ... I am not the talker am I ?????? I have one of the lowest post counts on the board.

I am a wall flower, I guess. We are getting excited about the cruise. I have been busy planning out the last details of our trip in 9 days!!!! :bounce:
We are trying out the dining plan this trip. :grouphug: (DS wanted this one in the post)

for the shirts, I like D and E. At first D does grab me, but since the dates are also on the back of the shirt, we don't have to have them on the front too, if most like E better. But either are fine with me. I havn't had a chance to really read through this awhole thread, so I hope you don't mind me asking, but how much wil the shirts be? Also when do we have to order by?
Thanks,
KERRI

I was thinking the same thing about the dates. Since they're on the back, it seems kinda redundant to have them on the front, as well. I still like D, I was just wondering how it would look without the dates. It's just a thought, though. Whatever's decided upon is okey-dokey.

(I'm not changing my vote! One t-shirt troublemaker in the family is enough!) :teeth:

No Med cruise for us but good luck to Roxann and anyone else trying to book one!

Thanks Mary!

We got a Category 10 on deck two for the Westbound Repo. Cruise. We have never been on Deck 2. I hope the location is okay. Going to try to waitlist for deck 5 or 7. We will see. The cruise was more spendy than the last Repo. cruise but we have time to think about whether we can afford it or not. We scheduled the Christmas Cruise for 2007. That would be 2 spendy cruises within 4 months of each other. Maybe I can win the lottery between now and the. ;)

Any other folks book one of the Med. cruises?

Good morning everyone!

Roxann congrats on getting your Med cruise - enjoy!

One thing to consider on the front design and that is that it can be used on other things than just the shirt. For example when I asked Diana to include the baseball cap option yesterday I was thinking of the front design being used on that. So having the date in there would be nice. Just my two cents.
