SOARING OVER CALIFORNIA!!! LOL! ::yes:: Yes, difinitely NOT to be missed; although WDW is copying the exact same ride - so it'll be available on the east coast eventually. But you have to experience it in California! I don't want to ruin it for you, but I will tell you that it will tickle all of your senses (including your nose!!) ;) I love DCA. The walkways are wide, it's never really crowded and Paradise Pier is really nice. If you go besure to also check out:

Tower of Terror (you can compare it to the FL one)

Mission Tortilla Factory (it sounds lame, but I always dig the free tortilla at the end of the tour. i'm kind of easy to please like that. plus, i won't lie: it's close to the beer cart and the rest of the food)

California Screamin' (great coaster!)

Sun Wheel (get in the swinging gondola for a fun but scary ride, the stationary one for a calm ride)

It's Tough to be a Bug (3d movie with really awesome effects)

Golden Dreams (good movie about California)

hmmm, that's all i can think of now...

I almost feel guilty going there and having some fun, but she is insisting.......Do think that under the circumstances I should go there and have some fun? I guess my mind and my heart will guide me.
You've suffered a great loss, one I have yet to have to deal with - so I can't really to tell you *don't feel guilty about having fun* because guilt is a natural reaction (even when there is no reason to feel guilty!!). But I can tell you that life is about living! :sunny: If you feel up for it - go enjoy yourself. You deserve it, and your mind will need the distraction. Why wait till next May if you can go now! :) Like you said, you'll know when you're there what's best...but I say enjoy life while you can! ;)

I for one would love to see Disney drop the Puerto Quetzel port. I have read nothing very good about it. ....

Unfortunately most of the good excursions are a long way away, and we are not there long enough.

I agree. The best excursion I found regarding Puerto Quetzel was on another cruise line's website. The excursion was several hours long as you have to FLY away from the port to really DO anything. And it was over $400 per person.

I don't remember that we were to stop anywhere during the Panama transit?
I'm not sure if were were going to be getting off, but my original email confirmation did have times beside the day we were going thru the Canal. Also, my email showed us arriving at Castaway an hour earlier than the website shows now. I could be wrong though; it wouldn't be the first time!!!

I'm sure it will all change many many times before next May!

I don't remember seeing that we could disembark at the Canal.

But I just realized that we have to be on the ship at 3:30 in Cabo San Lucas!

We will bring lots of books or Disney better have lots of activities. Here is the breakdown:

This is using an embarkation of 12 noon on May 14 and debakation on May 28 at 8:30 am

Total of 332 hours on the boat

Of that only 41 hours on shore!!!!!

There are 8 days at sea (I am including the Panama Canal in that) and 9 if you add Puerto Queztal (because I have also read that it is not that great)

(If anyone wants to check my math feel free!!:teeth:  Math is not my strong point LOL)

Close, but you forgot about 3 hours...

Remember, there is a 3 hour time difference between Florida and Los Angeles. This means that if we board at noon and disembark at 9:00, we will have been on the cruise for EXACTLY 14 days. (since 9:00AM in LA is Noon in Florida) 14 days is 336 hours.

The people on the return cruise have a three hour time change in the opposite direction, so our cruise is 6 hours longer.

LOL Thanks Rick. I said math wasn't my strong point :)

(can we tease the other thread that our cruise is longer ....better not :hyper:  )

Debbie

Rick, That is way Kewl that our cruise will be a few hours longer that the eastbound one.

Robin, Soaring is a definite not to be missed, try to get in row 1 if you can.

I agree with Peter's thoughts and rumor, that there maybe something special when we get to CA.

Of course, if you go by the fact that DCL lists the "Guests Ashore" time in Los Angeles for our cruise as 8:30, and lists the Guests Ashore time for Port Canaveral as 7:35 for the other cruise, then that makes our cruise almost 7 hours longer. But, as indicated above, there is no way to predict what is actually going to happen on disembarkation day, so relying on the times listed may be a stretch.

Jindy and Ken and anyone else that lives in California:

I heard the tail end of a news piece that you all had an earthquake this morning. I believe they said Santa Barbara was the center, which as I recall is close to you Ken. I hope that you all are okay? My aunt and uncle live in Ventura, it is a really beautiful area there.

Just thinking of you guys, and hope you are okay!

Hi Everyone! :wizard:
Whew... finally back and after a week of trying to catch up with this thread and the 10 night thread.. I'm exhausted!
Spent 3 weeks up at the MouseHouse... without a computer! THAT will not happen again. Cheapo phone line will be installed when we go back up in August... the darn cell phone gets lousy reception where we are... and I was going bonkers without being able to get online!!! Missed 2 surprise pins because I couldn't get my alerts!!
We are WAY behind ya'll in getting flights, shuttles, DL ressies etc etc. DH tried DVC and they said no points were out for that time yet and didn't offer to let us know when they would be. What happened to being able to book 11 months out? We are going to try and use points but I"m wondering if it would be better just to use a nearby hotel or make cash ressies. The fact that it is a holiday weekend is going to make it hard. I hate to be that close and not go for a visit..esp since it will be the 50th.
Does anyone know if Disney is offering a transfer to the park hotels from the port?

Robin

Yes, we did have a small quake this morning. It was centered about half way between Ventura and Santa Barbara. 4.2 or something like that. Short and a sharp jolt. It was just mother nature telling me to get up and get on the bicycle.

We also had a small one earlier in the week. It was also centered somewhere up by Santa Barbara.

Thanks for thinking of us.

It's hot here - 73 degrees at 6:00pm. I know, I'm spoiled.

Glad the quake was just a little jolt and all is fine. We had our share of those when we lived in CA.

73 at 6pm huh? I'll say spoiled!

It's 102 here at about 6:30pm :sunny:
It was already triple digits at 8am the other morning
DD has to be at the high school at 5am for team workouts because it gets too hot to be outside after about 7 or 8 am
:charac2:

Now, back to the cruise.
That's a lot of hours on board! I'll definitely need to stock up on some good books!

I'm also glad to hear that it was just a little one. I was living there for the one in the early 70's that was centered in the San Fernando Valley. That was very scary! However we did get the day off of school. I remember sitting there all day feeling the after shocks. We will be arriving out there in just a couple of days, and my DD wants to feel an earthquake. I hope not! I'm also glad to hear about the nice weather. Hopefully all those fires will be under control soon.

AZpirates, my Aimee said she heard from yours, and she added her to her buddy list, but said she has not been on. We will most likely be without a computer for a week, so let her know that Aimee has not forgotten her!

Robin

Good Morning All, nice and cool (44 degrees) here in WY.

Glad the quake was a little one with no major consequences.

Leslie, sounds like a lot of us are waiting for DVC to get it together. Being a holiday weekend we made a reservation at a local hotel just incase there would be no DVC availability. In the west to east thread there was a mention of Aug 4-6 for DVC.

That will be a lot of time on board the Magic, oh what to do???, will be interesting. Interesting chatter about changing/ adding ports etc. Given the big refinery in Curacao, I would suspect that will be a re provision port. We will see.

Robin have a safe trip.

WOW, final stage of the tour.

Is that normal weather for this time of year there? Just wondering as we plan on going to Yellowstone next month.

Also, I assume that you are referring to the Curaçao liqueur?Curaçaoliqueur.com
Makes me thirsty already.

7 day western cruise with Payton-2002
just want to disappear,
Wishin' I was somewhere other than here.

Hi everyone!

Robin, I didn't feel the quake up here. Ken, glad it was just a little jolt and nothing else...

SOOOO about us being spoiled by our weather... I have to admit I have a very hard time tolerating anything above 80 degrees, especially when humidity is involved. The 70s are my favorite number. :sunny:

So, uh, I keep thinking I am going to die as we transit the Canal! :faint:

For those of you who know: how hot does it get at Castaway during the end of May?

Bob and Lee, we have seen snow every month of the year here. Definitely bring a jacket. Jellystone is just up the road so if you need any info just ask.

Curacao liquor distillery is to the east of Williamstad, good stuff. Williamstad has a big oil refinery. Interesting fact is that all the water on Curacao is produced by these humungous desalination plants. Very good water there.

I think we will also melt in the canal zone.

When we have been to CC and the Bahamas in May the temps have been in the upper 70's to low 80's, Water temps cool enough for a full 3mm wetsuit. Low to mid 70's.
