What church? I live in Norcross and am wondering what I missed?!

Sandra, it's Perimeter Church in Duluth. One of the "googleplex" churches - they have something like 4,000 members. I saw the show 2 Christmases ago, but missed this past one. They put on a first-rate production! They do a different show every year. I'm sorry I missed last year's show, because my boss said Jodi sang a version of O Holy Night that just about had everyone in tears it was so beautiful.

Yup, I live a few miles south of there off 141. My kids go to the camp they run in the summer. The church is a bit to 'out there' for me, but they do have a some good programs. Interesting to hear about the shows. I'll have to keep it in mind this year.

Man, that day is getting crowded. Tropical buffet in the dining room. Room visitation. Wine tasting. And, formal night.

Any thoughts of picking a different day for Room Visitation?

It's definitely not a "traditional" church. We were seated in this huge auditorium with a stage and video screens and a balcony, and I asked my boss where the sanctuary was, and she said we were sitting in it! I much prefer my smaller, more intimate church in Lawrenceville. But she loves Perimeter and she gets a lot out going there.

We have to get to the rooms before they are completely trashed....:rotfl2: And full of STUFF that we accumulate. As it is all the sailaway gifts will be strewn everywhere. :rotfl: as well as wet bathing suits and drying snorkel gear from CC. :rotfl:

Packing!? Ummm.....No! This weekend I have GOT to get my boxes packed for mailing though. If I don't, it will cost me fortune to bring them along on the plane as extra baggage. I'm stressing about sneaking this wine in the boxes (oh, yes "collectible bottles with liquid") As it is, the pins alone are gonna add tons to my luggage weight. I plan to stop and purchase the rest of the liquids on the way to the port. :teeth:

Thanks folks. This is a massive undertaking as you can all imagine, but it should be a lot of fun for everyone. See ya on board.

Hi,

Tried to send an email using the monorailpilot@tiggerfan.net link, was returned as undeliverable.

An alternative?

Thanks, Bob aka Dread Pirate Barnacle Bob

Hello Fellow Disney Magic Cruisers for the May 14th Panama Canal Cruise...

I'll be on my first Disney Cruise with 50 members of the OUAC (Once Upon A Classic) Collector's Club from Southern CA.

Our club had a Bon Voyage Party with a pirate theme last weekend at the Disneyland Hotel. We picked up our final documents and personalized clothing so look for us on the ship...dark blue shirts with OUAC Sea to Sea logo. We are excited!

I've been checking out your posts for a few weeks and am amazed at your enthusiasm and organization. What a group!

I've been married for 45 years, have five children, and 21 grandchildren. We are a BIG family of Disney fans. I'm the only one in my family going on this cruise, and only wish I could bring all of my grandchildren with me.

I'm hoping to meet some of you on the cruise.

This is my first post so I hope I did it correctly.

Marti King (aka Snow White)
with roommates Nancy and Cinde in cabin 2104
So glad you are all joining us on this ONCE IN A LIFETIME CRUISE !!...sharon

Hi Guys:

Took me over two hours to catch up but I'm there. Hopefully you won't go too crazy in the next two days because there will be very little time to read between now and Saturday and I need to think about packing this weekend - or at least getting it seriously together.

We have so many wonderful, fun things planned. Can't wait to meet everyone.

:grouphug: TUSSY Alert! TUSSY Alert!:grouphug:

:grouphug: You know who you are. :grouphug:

We still have a few more bags of goodies available for late-comers.
I have not published a list because I wanted it to be a surprise when we meet each other for the first time at the Sailaway Party on Deck 9 at 3:00. If you miss me there ---- I'll be the woman with "RePosition This" Tee Shirt on...
Oh wait a minute... I'll be the short, very round, middle-aged lady with the goofie smile and a big pile of buttons...

Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting each of you. We will have lots of time to get to know each other. And remember, I'm available for 10 pm walks. I may not be able to walk far, but every little bit helps.

And no, I don't have any docs yet, but I'm thinking happy thoughts anyway.... :teeth:

A friend on this board, whom I've known for years, asked me to post something I wrote on another list in response to a question on tipping.

Someone asked, "What's a good tip?"

That is an excellent question. Of all the questions I see repeated over and over again, questions about tipping seem one of the most prevalent.

I think you have to ask yourself, why do I tip? Personally, my tips are a way to express gratitude, gratitude for a job not just well done, but done with kindness. A little generosity goes a very long way when you travel.

Hospitality service jobs are not easy and they do not pay well. Sometimes the work is plum nasty. Some guests are rude, haughty, and down right demeaning. Notice I didn't say, demanding. I am demanding. However, I reward those taking care of me. I know a little kindness can brighten someone's day, not just in token as in tips, but as in verbal expressions of genuine appreciation. We all know kindness begets kindness.
I am a generous tipper for good service. As a matter of fact, I use the 15% as a starter's guide and go from there. Example: I'm in the Spa onboard, the masseuse or treatment giver is expert, personable, listens to my feedback and respects my preferences: I'll tip $25-30 tip easy. I also bring them little gifts, souvenirs from my home town.

When I lived in San Francisco--I gave all my spa service providers and other crew members miniature cable cars with a fancy square of Gharidelli chocolate---in addition to their tips. I would take little tiny gift bags and just leave them on the counter in the therapy room. Without saying word until the end... Needless to say, kindness came back 10 fold. Twice I've been voted "Crew Members Magical Memories Special Guest".

At the AmeriSuites, I tipped housekeeping for being prompt and kindly. I'm sure my lady was used to getting next to nothing, but she was very kind, brought extra things for me and my roomie in a speedy manner. So I tipped her $5 a day, she was shocked. She tried to give it back ... and the last day, I put a $10 under my pillow. You know what, the last time I saw her, she got teary-eyed and said "God Bless". Now to me, that's spreading the Pixie Dust around.

The AmeriSuites van man, again, he was wonderful to me. I had very heavy luggage and he carried it all to the front desk for me after I mentioned I was very tired. I tipped him a 10 spot. After that, he came and told me quietly that all I had to do was call him and he'd take me anywhere I wanted to go within a twenty mile radius for free, at any hour. He said he'd take me to the local attractions if I wanted, to the movies, to the shopping centers, where ever. He'd even volunteered to go and pick up carry out for me, if I wanted.

I never used the AmeriSuite Van-man for any of that, but the point is an initial generous tip can get you wonderful service throughout your entire stay. The word gets around among the staff---the lady is a good tipper--Make her happy and she'll take care of you. Then you have folks stumbling over you to give you good service. It's worth every penny. And who knows, you may strike up a conversation with them, and they will whip out their wallet to show you pictures of their children or spouses.

On the ship, I tipped my waiter well over the suggested amount at the cruise end and gave him a fifth of my favorite Kentucky Bourbon, Maker's Mark. Do you know why? Because he did everything but dance on the table for me. He remembered me from a previous cruise two years before. He remembered my name and the 50th birthday party we celebrated then. Was my tip overly generous? Well, maybe. I know it floored him, he hugged me repeatedly, giving me the European double cheeked kisses and walked me out of the restaurant. That evening I felt like I had given him a taste of the joy he had given me.

I have traveled a lot and I've learned it's just as important to be a thoughtful guest as it is to be a good tipper. I've stayed in Westins, La Merdian, and even the Ritz Carlton. I lived in a certain Westin for a month while I was on business. I knew most of the staff all by name from the young fellas in the kitchen to the late night desk clerk. Heck, I'd even apologize to my chambermaid for leaving the room a mess.

How was I repaid? Extra towels, little touches like small bouquet of fresh flowers would suddenly appear, late night desserts from the kitchen "on the house", a bottle of nice wine with a meal, when I didn't order wine. A little something from the gift shop left on my bed. And the night before I left ... The hotel's general manager came to visit me. Why? Because I treated his staff well, he wanted to thank me personally. He said I had given them encouragement and seen them as something more than "housekeeping" or "kitchen-help" or "desk clerks", but rather saw each of them as a person with intrinsic human value and honored their work.

Do I tip below-average service? Yes, but usually, I will take the time to express my dissatisfaction in a gentle way and tip the bare minimum. Rarely do I ever leave without some sort of tip. There is one thing I do, but only if I'm not the one picking up the check in a restaurant. If the service has been rude, I will fold my napkin neatly, place it in my plate and lay one penny in full view on the very top.

In all my travels, I've only done it three times. Once and most pointedly in a four-star restaurant when the waiter was condescending and belittled my host who was not familiar with eating Dungeness Crab and asked for assistance. I don't believe the gesture was lost on the waiter even though my friend left a generous tip, but to insure it, I reported his arrogant behavior to the head waiter when I excused myself for a trip to the powder room.

It's hard to be pleasant when your feet hurt and the kids are cranky and you've developed a bad case of prickly heat in rather tender spots. But take a breath and remember the lady pushing the big cart of towels and toilet paper has been on her feet working double shifts during the peak season all week. Try to be of generous spirit, she, and others like her from the drivers to the busboys, make it a vacation for us. They make the unseen magic. Spread a little Pixie Dust on them.
