WHO IS LEAVING AND GETTING TO WDW FIRST - Let's see who is going to be the first one...................


I know we're not first, but we are leaving Ft. Lauderdale on Friday a.m., 5/13, around 6 a.m. and getting there, checking into OKW around Noon. thinking about changing reservations and leaving on Thursday morning.

We are getting in around 7pm on 5/12- staying on property at PC. (I think my luggage will fill the room)

Attire, = There will be two (2) formal and two (2) semi formal evenings. There will be one (1) pirate(1)tropical nights. I guess that leaves nine (9) "cruise casual" nights were jeans are allowed in the dining rooms (don't even get me started!)

I have to work Thursday night so we won't be up there until Friday afternoon. If anyone wants to meet for a bite to eat before or after Scott's shindig let me know. I'll be up for some cuban drinks, eh food, eh mojitos by then. We're not staying at the mousehouse since Jeff's dad lives right off property and he's our ride the next morning.

I've decided not to bring florida wine to any of the wine events, while some of it I do like, just not enough. So I'll be bringing wine from our surrogate home, future retirement home, Australia.

Speaking of travels, if anyone hasn't been to Australia and New Zealand you must go. It's amazing. There's a little island off the south coast of Austalia called Kangaroo Island, it's quite possibly the most extrodianry place we've ever been. Same can be said for Cairns and barrier islands in the reef....

Talking about wine-
I don't drink- so I don't drink wine. When I am asked to bring a bottle for a function- I usually bring the local cherry or cranberry wine that is grown locally. Will anybody be offended if I bring this to the "wine party" as technically it isn't wine?? (the party on the ship)

Are you Really Ready to Go?

So, you’ve locked the house and have to get to the airport to make your flight to California for the cruise. The car is packed full of luggage and excited kids. It isn’t the time to add in the trip to the post office to stop the mail, grocery store for snacks, drug store for prescriptions, and to take Shep, your beloved 110 pound sheepdog to the kennel. Anything that you can do in advance will make for a more relaxed vacation.

Leaving your house and property for a couple days isn’t a big deal. Take out the trash, turn off the coffeepot, and lock the doors is about all the thought I give to it. Leaving the house for a few weeks is another matter. A fair amount of thought and preparation regarding security and safety are a good idea.

I make lists. Some would say I make too many. Shopping lists (department store, grocery), to-do list, yard list, spring cleaning... the list of lists goes on. I admit that I have made a master list of other sub-lists when I have too many different types of things to remember. Since we plan on a few days at the parks on each end of the cruise, we’ll be gone for three weeks. There is a lot of preparation that goes into a vacation, and I know I’m going to need a few lists.

I suggest that you make two lists. One for what to do before you go, and one to get everything back to normal after you get back. Use the first one as a checklist before you go, and leave the second one on the kitchen counter for when you return home, still on ‘island time’, and have no memory of everything you did before you left.

The only thing that is worse than having to rush to leave for vacation, is to return to some un-natural disaster that could have been prevented. We returned from our first cruise only to find that our refrigerator had died, taking all of the frozen meat with it. Not a pretty sight or smell to come home to. Don’t forget the wasted time waiting for the repairman, etc.

Make a list of outside stuff that has to be done ahead of time. Mail, newspaper, regular deliveries or services should all be informed that you’re going to be gone. Call way in advance to get kennel space for the pet.

You want your house to look lived in for security purposes, so let your neighbors know you’re going to be gone. Make sure that the lawn is getting mowed or the sidewalks shoveled if you have the possibility of snow. Lock the windows and doors. You should unplug the garage door opener if you want to prevent someone from channel scanning to get it open.

Eat up any food that will spoil in the refrigerator. Yes, you’ll have to stop at the grocery store when you get back, but you won’t have sour milk or other nasty science experiments in progress. After you pour the last of the milk down the garbage disposal, be sure to rinse the sink and run the disposal for a couple minutes with cold water so that whatever went down there doesn’t spoil in the trap under the sink.

Turn the air conditioner thermostat up so that you aren’t keeping the house at the perfect temperature for the people who are currently sipping the ‘drink of the day’ onboard the ship about 1900 miles away.

It is a good idea to turn off the water at the master valve where it comes into the house. One of the worst vacation problems is that something springs a leak that isn’t discovered until you arrive home. Having a pool in the basement is not as cool as it sounds.

Even though the water has been turned off, you can also turn the hot water heater temperature down to its minimum temperature. Write down/mark what the normal temperature is and put it on the ‘return home’ list. It will only take an hour or so to bring it back up to normal when you return home. This will save a few dollars that you’re going to need to pay off the room charges you’ve accrued while onboard.

My brother (also named Scott) and SIL went to the Galapagos Islands in October last year. They loved it. Took tons of videos and pictures...if I see 1 more picture or video of a sea lion...or sea turtle...or marine iguana...I think I'll scream!!!

Seriously, it looked like an incredible vacation (just not my cup of tea).

No banana dancing for me today. DH will have to be on the lookout while I head to WDW tomorrow for the Press Event.

Keep your eyes on the DIS. We'll be doing tons of Press Event updates. (Woo Hoo! Barenaked Ladies, Smash Mouth and Ashanti are performing.)

I hope that you people appreciate the sacrifice I'm making on your behalf by going to this. I feel it's my sworn duty to keep you informed of all the latest happenings at WDW.

If you are on the Master List, you will be given a lanyard and you can wear that - We should know each other pretty much by then.
