Castaway Cay – Snorkel Adventure to the Derelict off of Serenity Bay

WHEN: Sunday May 15, 2005, at 11:00AM

WHERE: Meet at the entrance to Serenity Bay.

WHO: Since we have to access via Serenity Bay, sorry us only us Kids over 18. Strong swimming skills and comfort in the water is suggested.

PICK UP A SNORKEL VEST FROM DISNEY AT THE FAMILY BEACH AREA. THEY ARE FREE YES FOLKS SOMETHING FREE AT DISNEY

WHAT YA NEED TO BRING: Mask, Fins, Snorkel, Swim vest, water temps will be cool so a wet suit might be nice, as we will be in the water for a good while.

THINGS TO CONSIDER: Sun protection and hydrate well before we start

WHAT’S INVOLVED: A good little ways off shore at Serenity Bay there are the remains of a vessel, not sure what it was during its more seaworthy days. The keel, some ribs, and the engine are there. There is good coral growth, with lots of Caribbean fish hanging out amongst the remains. The visibility here has always been great for us, better than the common snorkeling area.

The wreck lies in about 5-10 ft of water depending upon the tide. It is visible from the shore when the tide is low. On May 15, 2005, the high tide will be 2.7 ft at 12:12 PM, so we maybe able to get a visual reference at 11:00AM or a little before.

This wreck is a ways out there, well past the orange buoys. Average depth is about 8 feet or less the whole way out. This will take about 1.5 hours. Here is a break down, it takes about takes about 30 minutes to swim out to, spend 20-30 minutes exploring the wreck, and 30 minutes to swim back. SO WE WILL BE IN THE WATER FOR QUITE A WHILE. This will really work up a good appetite for lunch at Serenity Bay lunch spot, behind the bar. Good time for a Conch Cooler.

My charts of the area do not show this derelict so it may depend on wither we can see it to find it. Either way it is an adventure.

Scott... you have us down twice for snorkel... does that mean we have to swim twice as far.... I'd rather be on the wine meet twice... then I get to drink twice as much....
Roof is coming along nicely.. thank goodness the rain held off. I will suggest the duct tape and plastic skylight idea to Joe.. he may go for that one... he is the duct tape king!
The problem with doing this himself.. is that now I've seen he can do it... and it looks pretty easy to cut a hole in your roof. I may now have to ask for a skylight (the real kind) in the bedroom...... Hmmmmm... gives me ALL kinds of ideas for projects.....

Seaulater = Disboard Navigator for this cruise. Now, I'm not coming up with an original idea here, but credit goes to Mark and Mary from the 10 day Christmas Cruise who made the Navigator and delivered to everyone's "fish" for when they arrived at their stateroom door.

I will make up the navigator (for everything we have scheduled prior to the cruise), print, bring, and deliver to everyone. I will also bring extras for the sailaway party(ies).
What Mary did is post the Navigator before we left on her website and then people could print out if they wanted.
So here's what it will list:
1. People's names; location and whether they are playing tag or not..
2. Each day and the schedule of disboard activities for that day.
3. A place for Notes
4. Anything else that might be deemed important.

Scott - How I wish we could join everyone on the pre-cruise meet! But, we'll be flying in the morning of the departure (sigh). I'm sure it will be a great time!

We (bonzie1 Georgie + Joe) will have to cancel out of the Castaway Cay snorkeling meet. We've never done this, and I think it might be a bit much for us! We do want to hear all about it though!

On come on Georgie.. at least come out to the beach and cheer us on. Get a cheap inflatable raft and paddle out on it... you may need it to save me!!

Scott: Will Disney let us use snorkel vests if we have our own gear? I usually don't use one because I don't go into water above my chest.....but I might want one for this extravaganza!
