Hello.

My wife and I have decided to run the 2005 Disney marathon next January. I was thinking it might be fun if we could get a group of DISers to set the same goal and we could all encourage each other along the way (both during training and during the run)

Neither of us are great runners - actually, i try not to run. :) My wife vicki has done more running in the past, but is currently pregnant with our second child. She decided that after giving birth to our boy, she would dedicate time to training for the marathon. I think it is a great idea, so much so, that I decided to join her.

If you are interested... post a reply here. We can share training schedules, eating plans and mental strategies and support.

We have a full year to plan and train... come on DISers, we can do it.

FYI - they also have a half marathon the same day, if the 26 miles is just too daunting of a task.

sign up....

Oh my gosh, yes! Have you ever heard of "Team in Training"? It's a group with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. They bring a group there for the marathon. I was going to do it with them, but I don't know if I have time to do the fund raising!

Please keep me posted if you get a group togethor! Sounds great!:sunny:

When is the 2005 Marathon?

DH did the 2002 and 2001 marathons. We may be able to do the 2005 if it is before the kids go back to school.

A WORD OF WARNING: IF you are really serious about running this, YOU MUST REGISTER and PAY early!!!! The marathon is limited to about 10,000, and the half to about 6000. That sounds like a lot, but the marathon filled in about 2 months, and the half marathon in about 1 month!!

The 2005 marathon is Jan 9th 2005. registration opens Jan 12th of this year - next Monday. We are signing up that day for the full run.

full run registration is $95
half run registration is $80.

go here disney marathon site to see details of this years race and next. Check out the route map, it is quite cool, you run through every park during the full race.

anyway... looks like we may have some DISer interest in this.

lets do it. :)

Check out the WISH board here at the DIS. There is a group there planning on doing this together. We'd love to have others join us. Check WISH out. 'We're Inspired to Stay Healthy'!

Well, I have been quietly training for this since Oct! I will be *gasp* 40 that following April so I decided to do this as a way of staving off middle age :teeth: I have run a 5K in the past, but that was before DD and when my body wasn't so squishy!

So far I am doing 60 mins on the ellipitical trainer 3x week. Mon, I have a check-up and will see if I get the go ahead to start running. I would love to have some running/support buddies!

Thanks for the link to the marathon site, I am planning on signing up right on Jan 12. This thread is a great idea!

I'm already training for the 2005 half marathon. I'll be part of the WISH group! Don't know if I'll be running or walking or doing a bit of both, but I'll be there!

Oh man. I think I might do the half marathon. Do you think a totally out of shape almost 40 could do this in a year. I'm the sort of person that if I have a goal/threat I will work at it much harder.

We are doing the 1/2 marthon this Sunday, while they did seem to fill up fast we kept getting emails from Disney well in June that they were adding more and more people to the run. The 1/2 ended up with over 12,000(I think they doubled it) to run and I'm not sure about the full, but I had heard 18,000. Sunday will be a zoo, I don't know if Disney will let this many runners for 2005, they may find that they let to many people run this year. I'm not happy about it, cause when we signed up it was still only the 6,000, but we couldn't get our money back when we found they were opening it up to more people.

I'm kind of glad that you can register late! I never get plans straightened out early.

Team in Training pays for your trip there, and has scheduled events and parties. That is, if you can make the fund raising goals.
I'm still considering it!

I'm going to check out the wish board too. I never knew what it was for.

I'm a swimmer, so it's going to be hard to get into running mode. I could use all of the help I can get!:sunny:

Do you sign up with Team in Training or with Disney? I'm a little confused on this. If you sign up with Team in Training do they just block out spots with Disney for them to use.

You have to sign up with Team in Training. Then when you go through their whole program and commit to it, they pay the race fee, and travel expenses, and hotel.

They have a web site. Do a search for Team in Training and you'll find it. It's really good, and it explains the whole program.

They have meetings in most major cities. they should list the schedule!

Good luck!:sunny:

A DIS marathon support group. Sign me up. :teeth: But, I may need a lot of support!

I've always wanted to do a marathon, but I have a tendency to be lazy. The extra push is just what I need. Currently I would say I'm a jogger. But, I'm up for the challenge! If anyone has a training schedule, I'd be interested in it.

Thanks for starting this thread, adambreakey. And congrats on the baby boy coming soon!:D

Oh gosh, count me in I guess!

I've being trying and trying to run this thing, but it hasn't been in the cards. I registered for the 2002 and 2004 WDW marathons, but they didn't happen. It's something I really feel the need to accomplish since I've been planning on doing it for so long.

I've been debating whether or not to go ahead and register for the 2005 and I figure I will. Here's to one more try!!

Thanks for starting this thread!
