The announcement has been made and these are the locations/months of CKU's in 2005. As far as I know they haven't indicated which will be for Retailers/Teachers/Masters. But there has been talk that Masters will be in Nashville.

Dallas, TX ------ Album ---- Mar - Thu 3/3-Sat 3/5 ----- Westin Park Central -
Minneapolis, MN – Regular -- Apr - Thu 3/31-Sat 4/2 ---- Downtown Hilton -----
Anahein, CA ----- Master’s - May - Thu 5/19-Sat 5/21 --- Anaheim Marriott ---- $99/night
Nashville, TN --- Master’s - Jun - Thu 6/9-Sat 6/11 ---- Gaylord Opryland ---- $99/night
Orlando, FL ----- Regular -- Jul - Thu 7/21-Sat 7/23 --- Gaylord Palms ------- $99/night
Provo, Utah ----- Teachers - Aug – Thu 8/4–Sat 8/6 ----- Provo Marriott ------
Stamford, CT ---- Album ---- Oct - Thu 10/27-Sat 10/29 - Westin Stamford ----- $109/night

FYI: Most of the hotels seem to charge extra if you have more than 2 people in your room.

From the CKU website:

What exactly is Creating Keepsakes University?
Creating Keepsakes University (CKU) is an education-focused event where the scrapbooking industry’s most talented experts gather to teach the newest techniques of the trade. The education students gain at CKU is skill-enhancing and creativity-building, as well as motivating and inspiring.

But the learning at CKU doesn’t end in the classroom. CKU offers plenty of extracurricular activities where students can expect to socialize at evening activities and crop parties, compete in contests, participate in hands-on projects and demonstrations from leading manufacturers in the industry, and interact with fellow students who are just as passionate about scrapbooking as they are. It’s a truly unique experience of pure scrapbooking fun!

CKU is different from any other scrapbooking conventions. CKU is a smaller, more exclusive event that offers a unique educational experience for a few hundred students, based on CKU format. The quality of the education students receive at CKU is unmatched by other consumer trade shows and local classes. Ultimately, these classes are meant to build scrapbooking skills over selling products. CKU is a more structured event with a timeline of activities, rather than the open forum of shopping and classes from vendors that is found at a consumer show.

At CKU, the social atmosphere is unique in that students are surrounded by the same scrapbooking enthusiasts for the length of the event. Students can build long-lasting friendships and enjoy a close camaraderie with others who share their passion.

The CKU staff proudly hosts a handful of regular CKUs each year in different regions of the country. Tuition for these three-day events for consumers is $345 per student. The need for retailers’ and teachers’ education and the demand for an advanced program have spawned the development of CKU-R (for retail storeowners and their representatives), CKU-T (for both professional and amateur teachers), and CKU-Master’s (a longer event extended to all scrapbookers but recommended for advanced consumers). Tuition, event length and activities vary based on CKU format. Events sell out quickly, so be sure to watch for online-only registration dates and details.

I hope this helps answer your question.

RRBB---Thanks for the information on CKU. At $345 I KNOW I won't be going to this!! I was hoping it was another convention similar to what was in Nashville first wknd in July. I missed it but really wanted to go. :(

I'm excited that they decided to come back to Stamford. I was there in 2002 and really liked it. Maybe I'll be able to swing both CKU & Camp Memory Makers in 2005.

About the price of CKU or Camp Memory Makers - it's really worth it, you get to go to classes by the top people in the industry. So imagine taking classes by Becky Higgins, Michelle Gerbrant, Trudy S., Rebecca Sower, Lisa Bearnson, etc. Plus you should see all the goodies you get - you will literally NOT be buying any supplies for a while.

I absolutely loved the Disney class at CMM this past July. At CKU, I took a great journaling class which really made me think about how to journal.

Yes, $345 sounds expensive but when you think about all that covers it really isn't unreasonable. Besides 10 classes - 4 of them 1 1/2 hours long, 6 of them 1 hour long - you also get 6 hours of product demonstration (aka "Make-N-Takes") by 30-40 product sponsors, 4 evening crops, tailgate party (introduction of everyone involved in CKU), and commencement (wrap-up of CKU and announcement of contest winners.) You get goodie bags of scrapbooking product at registration, tailgate party, campus crop. Most of the classes give you so much product that you have lots left over to use at home on other projects. There are lots of give-aways that you may win also. But most of all you get 3 days of intense scrapping experience AND make friendships with tons of other scrapping addicts. It's a wild time, to say the least.

(BTW, I'm still trying to figure out where to put all the stuff I brought home from CKU last month.)

I just hope that the local stores for CKU Utah next year do LOTS better deals than this year... They were rather pathetic...

(Last year I got binders for 7 and Paper packs for 3/4- AKA Spent LOTS of $$- this year nada...)

That's disappointing to hear Emily. I'm heading out that way for Masters in a couple weeks, getting in on Monday so I can spend all day Tuesday shopping. Oh well, guess I'll just do lots of looking and not so much spending. (Good for my wallet though.)

Are ya coming to Provo?

There's lots of fun stuff still but it wasn't CHEAP :) Course I'm jaded with 2 Robert's (Provo Craft) and Pebbles in my Pocket within 15 minutes and Keeping Memories Alive and 2 other minor stores within 30 minutes...

There was some better deals for CKU only people.... Esp at Pebbles... :)

I'm flying into SLC on Monday afternoon and plan to tour the area stores all day on Tuesday. I created TripTiks on AAA between the hotel and a lot of the stores that were listed for last year. (At the time I did it they didn't have a list for this year.) I need absolutely NOTHING, but if I find something I've never seen before or a deal that's just unbelievable...

If the one in TN is after school is out I may go next summer. I could drop the boys off at Grandma and Grandpa's and take off for 3 days. I've been wanting to go to one of these. I'll have to keep my eyes open.

hey pam, I was leaning more toward the ct one in oct.... maybe we could talk spinning and patty t (and laura, pauline and kim) into that one. :D maggie

Thanks for the list Emily. I'm sure I'll find lots of stuff I just can't live without. Isn't that the way it always goes!?!?!

I hope to be able to go to the CKU Orlando. Maybe sneak in a few extra days for a jot to the world? Hmmm. sounds like a good excuse to visit Disney...even if it is in July!:earsboy:

I would love to go to the one in Orlando. Marc and the kids could spend their days at the parks or shopping, and I could be in scrapbook heaven. Or maybe I could persuade my sister and my girls to take a trip together. Hey , I can dream ! Would have to put away some major change and sell a lot of CM !

Cyndi princess:

I'm saving for cku in stamford in oct 05.... means I can't go shopping at target til the halloween 90% off clearance.... (not to mention no scrapbook shopping except for tape/glue runner refills). I know, I know, it's a shock coming from the queen of target sales shopping... trust me, my dh is still laughing his butt off. Thank goodness agency nursing pays well. (now if I can just get some shifts scheduled). :D maggie

Has anyone else heard the thought that the one in Orlando is going to be either for teachers or retailers? I'll be majorly disappointed if that turns out to be true!

I saw that also on another board, and am hoping its not the truth. I can't see being able to take the class anywhere else, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Cyndi
