Oh, Karen!!

I feel so bad for you!! :grouphug:

My suggestion is this - Go skiing and enjoy the weekend with your family sans Maggie - don't give this a though - enjoy yourself and then when you come home with a clear head - look at this situation again - it may be different ;)

Well, I WISH! Mr. Scuba said he'd cook for me every night....so why not stay longer?? ;)

Didn't I put in small letters that it was actually only until that next Sunday/Monday?

I don't remember saying EVERY night.

happen to you!!

Kevin I can't tell you how many times your posts make me laugh out loud. This penguin pic may be the best ever, even funnier than the pic you posted of Buckthorn Varlett.

Thank you sooooo much.:flower3:

Gosh, thanks!

After all the "stuff" Karen has been through, the irony of the penguins spoke to me. :rotfl2: :rotfl:  :rotfl2:

I needed the laugh myself. Jeanne fell today and is having a lot of trouble with her right knee. We were walking into a store, I had her arm and she missed a step. Landed on her knee and then gently rolled onto her hip. Now she can't seem to get up from seated positions. Yep, you guessed, I have to put a beach towel under her arms and heave her off the necessary:scared:

Karen,

That does flesh it out further. I'll do the same and then give an opinion in more detail.

I've grown up around many dogs, and have raised at least 4 myself from pups. When the last German Shepherd had to be put down for hip failure, a very common illness in purebreed gs's, I decided I wouldn't have another dog. That and I was beginning to develop allergies. But I've had many in the past. I've been around black labs, gs's, rottweilers, weinreimers, st. bernards and a good number of mutts.

And I've only been around one that acted closely to the way yours is. You either need to do someting that will stop this entirely now or it will get worse. Growing up, I spent my afterschools and summers at the family buisness, an auto repair shop. The first gs I was around was a young one that was raised from pup at home then brought there. And he acted not too different than yours. It began when he wanted something, usually, either food or to be let out. And it was focused around one person at first, my uncle. Then it began to expand into the same approach to the rest of us, nipping at clothes, circling, barking agressively. And finally it was to the point we had to lock him in a room when people were in the shop as he would do it to anyone. Then finally he really attacked my uncle one evening and bit him hard. That was the end of that. Now that was a long time ago, and I've had other dogs since with no repeat of that kind of behavior, so that was one instance, but the behavior needs to be ended now before it turns into something worse.

My advice is this, you need to avoid at all costs rewarding this behavior in any way. No matter how scary the dog may be getting. That is how the dog thinks. 'I do this and I get what I want'. In the widest sense, not that much different from young kids. The big difference is the dog takes a LOT longer to develop and will never develop much futher beyond the action=reward thing. So the tack to take is reward good beahvior and try to reinforce that every way you can, and don't let up at all when it seems to be working. You need to ingrain both what is a good action and what is a bad action very deeply before they will take.

If you need advice, ask, if I don't know, my SIL is a veterinary assistant, I'll ask her. :)

Sue - so sorry to hear about Jeanne. Did you take her for some X-rays -just to be sure. Here's hoping she gets more mobile soon. Tell her we send our love.

Her knee isn't swollen or discolored and no broken skin. She can move and rotate her lower leg, it is just sore (I hope). She goes to her friends house tomorrow for some TLC, (I can be hard hearted) and see how she does. Right now she can't do chores, get a glass of water, get her medicine, so I am not sure if she will get well quickly if I wait on her. Aren't I mean!!!!!!!!!!

That must mean she won't be getting a bell to ring for service I imagine......... :rotfl:

Wish her the best from all of us!! :sunny:

This is a big shout out to Mark

THANKS

With his help I was able to solve my computer problems. Great recommendations!! What was really cool is that he took the time, did the research, told me what the problem was and how to fix it....without my asking for help (which I never would have done).
Mark, next time you are at WDW, dinner is on me!

:rotfl2: Naw, she banged her cane on the floor, got the dogs barking which woke me up.

Actually her knee is feeling better, thanks for all the good wishes:daisy: :flower1: :rose: :flower:

Well, guys...this is probably my last check in. We're heading skiing in NY. I have done nothing but shiver here the last couple of weeks and the thought of going farther NORTH is just crazy.

Ohiomickey has convinced me that I didn't need to pack ANYTHING until this morning. So...we have NOTHING packed! :earseek: We're only supposed to be leaving here in a few hours. :earseek: Plus we have to stop at Best Buy on the way up so I can buy Mike his birthday present....thank you very much Mr. Virgil!!! :) (Virgil has convinced me that Mike must have one of those cool iPod speaker systems like he had at the wine party in Sessions!)

So I'm off.....have fun, stay warm, and be safe!

That's good news, don't want to see anyone get their pc messed up. It's more just sharing my experience on the matter. I've had to deal with this kind of nonsense more than most and don't mind at all in passing that experience on. :)

Karen, Have a Fun and Safe Trip!! Leave all of your worries behind and have some down time! It does a Mom good! And Happy Birthday to Mike!!
