Attn Blood Doners:

Something I found out today. Simply be being in St. Lucia I got a one year pass. So if you normally give blood you may want to check before signing up again.

Shari has been a regular donor for a long time and just got a call the other day. She told them where she had been and they said as long she didn't stay (as in overnight I guess) on St. Lucia, she was OK to donate. She is going in tomorrow. I will be interesting to see if this holds up once she is actually getting interviewed at the bloodbank.

Ken

Ken - that was kind of my thought. How much exposure would I have had walking to and fron the pirate ship and then shopping at the shops right at the port.

She most likely will be fine. With my history of cancer and my travels I always take a long time in the interview process.

We are going to Alaska. I told Jeanne if she came home healthy she could pick our next cruise. She said she would like to go back to Alaska. My Dad and Mom took their motorhome thru Western Canada to Alaska and then a ferry thru the inside passage. She wants to 'see' it from a cruise ship this time. So, Radiance of the Seas will be our home for a week in June. I am hoping my niece can come with us, she will graduate from hs in late May '05.

That is great and exciting. It really did look like she enjoyed herself on our cruise. I hope she enjoys this one.

Our next door neighbors, the ones that supply our food, are on the 7 Seas Mariner in early June. I guess a lot of people will be cruising Alaska this year.

For those from the 10 day that did the MVMCP prior to embarkment, wasn't that a bummer that they stopped issuing the buttons :guilty: . We have been every year since 1996 and have a button for every year. Now, we have a post card. I'll pin that on my hat. LOL :smooth:

I have only been home for a total of 12 hours since getting back from the cruise so I am now getting caught up with stuff. I got home to a sick wife and daughter, they both sound like the same as what a few of you had.

I have finally looked at my pictures and it seems that the pictures of Hilary, DD in the hot seat at mousekateers didn't turn out that great. If anyone happened to be taking a picture of Christy K romano and happened to get Hilary in it we would love a copy.

I have a good picture with wdwgoose family with Mary on deck but can't figure out how to post it, I will try again later.

I can't believe you are still going strong on this but it is nice to see.

Happy and safe New Year to everyone,
Phil

Yes - we couldn't get one either....:( It would've been our first!

Cary - we didn't go this year. Did they not buttons for this year or did they run out? That's a shame. I always loved having our buttons from the years we went.

Something I found out today. I've been a regular blood doner for years but know that sometimes where you travel will make you ineligible. Got a call today from Lifesource asking if I could come in and give blood. So of course I tell them about the bug bite and being on antibitoics. Well they come back and say "see you in a year". It had nothing to do with the bite, nothing to do with the antibiotics. Simply be being in St. Lucia I got a one year pass. So if you normally give blood you may want to check before signing up again.

Sounds like the Lifesource folks are being extremely conservative. If you go to http://www.cdc.gov/travel/caribean.htm you'll find travel warnings for the Caribbean. The only risk for Malaria is in Haiti and Dominican Republic.

Furthermore, if you go to http://www.redcross.org/services/biomed/0,1082,0_553_,00.html you'll find the American Red Cross donation guidelines. Caribbean travelers are not summarily excluded from their criteria either.

I could have sworn I saw ppl with them around the time of the first parade. We went to the second parade and I didn't see any then.

Cut backs! No buttons. Many, many people complained! The CM I spoke to said so many people have been complaining that it would not surprise him if they are back next year.

They didn't make them this year. If you check your paper work they sent you with your tickets, it states they will be giving out post card instead. I even complained to guest services in the park that night.

Nah, didn't read that paperwork. Ripped the tickets off and went to have fun. Not a huge loss for me. We got them every year we went, but they are buried somehwere. More disappointing for me is that DCL dropped the ball and didn't have special 10 day holiday cruise pins and no pins for the new port, St. Lucia.

Sorry you didn't get your buttons. The ones I saw must have been from previous years.

I didn't notice the pins, but your right that would have been nice to have a 10 day pin from the cruise.

I guess I didn't expect a button at MVMCP. But I was REALLY disappointed that there weren't any special 10 Night Holiday pins. Geesh, they do a pin for everything else!

Speaking of being in foreign ports, blood and illness......the reason our doctor got us in so fast was because he knew we'd been out of the country. I doctor could give me more insight, but I'm guessing they are more worried about foreign germs than "native" germs?

It doesn't surprise me about Lifesource being conservative. I think they had something major happen a number of years ago (if I remember correctly) that they are most likely going too far.

Karen - I agree. I was very disappointed in not getting special pins. I was also a little disappointed that we got the usual towel as a CC gift. Those who went to Antiqua earlier in the year got really nice blankets as a gift.

I filled out my DCL survey. I was surprised about the dining questions for the 3/4 night. You wouldn't think our 10 nighters would be the target audience for that type of question, but whatever.

I think I might have an idea how they decided who to survey. There were 2-3 evenings where they asked your stateroom number when you went into an activity (one of the cabaret nights, and the last dessert buffet stick in my mind). I'm pretty sure us DISers were heavily represented there, so maybe they sent them to the people who attended lots of things?

We did our survey last night as well. It will be interesting to see what the current 4 dayers put. They are having a formal night. Wonder how it will be received.

Nope, can't be that b/c I never had to give my stateroom number when I entered an activity (except the gingerbread house making--and that was so they could check us off the list)

I've cruised 5 times, I believe I've gotten the survey all 5 times! We always get the survey after we stay in a DVC resort too. I am the quintessential (sp?) "small but significant" person!
