My DH had never seen a gun until I brought him to Texas for our engagement (his first trip to US). Dad took him out back and tought him to shoot cans as target practice. (no it was not a shotgun wedding)

Who's interested? I would be. Any ideas of the best way to handle it? Everyone who brings one, gets to pick one? Or do the "steal the one you want from the person who already got it?"

Combine with the wine party? On another sea day? On a port day after we've sailed? Maybe after we leave St. Maarten or St. Thomas (both of those we sail at 4:30---so time to do it before the main dinner ppl have to get ready)

Ah, if we do the "steal the one you want from another" maybe the St. Maarten night would be good---it's PIRATE night!!

Any requirements to ornaments? Something that represents you? Your home region? Or homemade? Or Disney?

Ideas? Anyone, anyone, anyone, Ferris?

Confessions Week - Ok I'm In


Good time for it to with all the talk about what the kinds will or won't eat. My confession - I'm a picky eater. Real meat and potatoes. Don't like sauces or any type of condiments. I try not to make a big deal out of it and will usually joke with the server and put myself down a little bit.

That's why Mark loves cruising - he'll eat anything and with the cruise we get the best of both worlds. He gets to try lots of new and wonderful things and I'm happy with what I get.

So that's my confession. Now someone else better confess something or I'll feel like a fool.

You would get along fine with my Nathan! On our 4-day cruise he had a steak every night. By the third night, our great server was real creative with the A-1!

Anyone notice that the Port Canaveral sailing time is 4:30 in our docs. Don't the ships usually sail at 5:00?

Yea, my dad is pretty cool. The Danish contingent had also never seen a snake (there are none in Denmark). I warned them Texas in the summer, out in the country, watch were you step. Sure enough their first day they came upon a snake. All the cameras were going until my Dad steps up with a shovel, whack... and silently walks away with the remains. The Danes mouths were wide open.

Confessions Week - Ok I'm In

Mary --- you all sound like the exact opposite of us --- DH (and both DD) are pickey as can be -- can you say PLAIN --- don't even want to go into what happens when the burger isn't PLAIN -- lets just say it's not pretty. That's why I love cruising too --- I get to try all kinds of new stuff and they can eat steak to their heart's content!!!!

OK - I'll admit --- I'm a no condiment type of guy... Don't like mustard, mayo... will tolerate ketchup.... But love hot sauces.... DW is the wimp there....

Will try most anything... will end up eating steak most nights... not a big seafood eater....

DD isn't too picky - we force her to try most anything..... some she likes... some she hates...

One day the kids were out playing and one of they yelled "SNAKE." The overweight, barefoot, missing teeth aunt comes out with a shotgun and "blam, blam, blam, blam," No more snake!!!

I love the idea. At work we do a thiefs (or pirate) grab bag. You put all the wrapped gifts out and pull numbers. #1 goes first picks any one and unwraps it. #2 can take any wrapped one or steal the one from #1 (who then has to picked a wrap one). That's the one rule - if it is stolen you must pick a wrapped one as a replacement (otherwise it could go on forever).

Count us in as we already have a cool one (as long as it doesn't have to be homemade).

We threaten... right now the ongoing thing is she's not allowed to play "City of Heroes" (it's an online game that Kristin and I play - and Lauren just started) She's trying to be like her big sister....

Actually - if you pinch their nose closed - they have to swallow so that they can breathe..... You do know the Heimlich maneuver don't you?

I have a homemade one....made several in 2002 for family and had an extra. It says The Patricks--2002 on it, but that's ok. No one will care! Right!

(there's an ornament on our tree that raises eyebrows--it's a cute precious moments boy in a stocking. on the back it says "baby's first Christmas, 1992" Unfortunately, our first born, KT, was born in 1994!! My sister bought the ornament not knowing it said "baby's first Christmas, 1992" on it!!)

And YES, that's EXACTLY the kind of pirate thing I was thinking, Mary!!

The closest I came, once years ago, I was mugged by two teenage girls when I lived in San Fransisco. I had worked seriously over 100 hrs that week and so sort of snapped when to they tried to grab my purse. I slugged one of them. She let go but then pulled out a switch blade and threatened to kill me. Well, little ole me but my hands on my hips stared them in the eye and said "oh yea, well I'm going to go Tell." They ran off and I ran yelling for the police.

OK Jeri, it's a good thing those thieves didn't run into YOU! You might be in jail instead of going on the cruise!

See, you're a good parent. You've got one of the three main elements down. I'm POSITIVE you also bribe and lie, so that launches you into "exemplary parent!"

Mary and Mark, on the other hand, have probably NEVER bribed, lied to, or threatened Bear.... so their standing is not as high in the parenthood rating.

Then again, if I had a child like Bear who never caused trouble, I may not have to do those things!

I really thought I asked you all to pack and not type this weekend!!!

DS's hockey team obviously doesn't realize all of the work required to get ready for a cruise, they decided to win all of their games at the hockey tournament which meant we didn't get home until late last night(we left friday at 6am). Needless to say we are way behind on the packing and the boards. Also for some reason my computer doesn't like this thread anymore, it is 10 slower than any other website.

Gus... I think we know your neighbour on the cruise, it looks like our friends(Neil) is in 1045.

Back to taking care of DD, she decided that today was a better day to get the stomach flu than on the cruise so we are having lots of fun.
