I used to read a lot of true crime, mostly Ann Rule. But it got too depressing. I opt for a lot lighter reading these days.
I read the "Mitford" series by Jan Karon....I loved those, and wished there were more.
I have The Beachcomber, maybe I'll bring that one. And Wendy Markham's "Once Upon A Blind Date". Megan gave me a couple of Markham's books....I wouldn't have thought to buy them, but they can be kind of cute.

What I like to do is to buy books about the islands we go to.
I still haven't read "The Witch of Rose Hall" that I got in Jamaica, though. Or is that White Rose?

Accidental T.O.P.!!! Honest....

I have done the first draft of my door sign. Still waiting for my magnetic paper to arrive though.

Angela

I like crime books - fictinal though. I love Patricia Cornwell's books and also Jeffrey Deaver. I always snap up a new one as soon as it becomes available.

I looked again for the glossy magnetic paper. Couldn't find it, and then I decided that my signs are already packed, so I'll just live with what we have. I made double of everything, because we originally had two rooms...so now our one door will be pretty well-covered!

I think the worst thing about the true crime (what depressed me) was the pictures. After a while, I decided I needed something "happy" to read. That was when I started the Mitford series. Excellent books......

Whew. I was looking over our "contact list" from the play. The other Christopher Robin has the last name of Keseg. And lives on "Kesegs Way."

How much money do you have to have to have a street named after you????

Not much if you live in Southern Maryland! We actually just got street names within the last 10 years. When we moved here in 96, they were in the process of converting them. Basically, whoever put in the request for the name got it. We have streets with the following names:
Teddy Bear Lane
Toots Lane (yes, that's the man's name)
PawPaw's Place
No Place

as well as many people's names (including multiple variations of the same family name, which leads to lots of confusion).

Well, that depends on if your mom can cook or not... Not as good as my mom, but better than the inlaws... oops, did I say that out loud?

Mine's the opposite. My in-laws are pretty decent cooks. My mom, on the other hand.....

I remember when I was in college, I had a couple of friends come stay with me one summer weekend. I kept putting my mom off when she offered to make lasagna, until finally I couldn't get around it. I had to tell her "Mom, don't make it because it really isn't very good." My mom's lasagna included: 1 box of noodles (after all, noodles are cheap), 1/2 pound of hamburger, 1/2 pack of mozzarella cheese, and 1/2 jar of ragu sauce. She said "But I used Aunt Shirl's recipe". Yes, but Aunt Shirl uses at least 4-5 times as much of all the "good" ingredients, not to mention she actually seasons her food!

Then there was the time she invited my in-laws to be (about 1 month after DH and I got engaged) over to Sunday dinner. DH and I got there a little early to find out she was planning the following (for 5 adults!!!)

Round steak (about 1/2 to 3/4 pound), which she had cooked in a cast iron skillet covered with water for about 45 minutes.
4 small boiled potatos
1 can of pillsbury biscuits

I started digging through the freezer and the pantry and managed to salvage something so we didn't starve. That was the last meal my mom was in charge of. From that point on, even if we are at her house, I bring (and cook) the food!

Carefree (right next to us, Cave Creek) has some pretty interesting street names. They have Ho and Hum, Easy Street, and, near one of the golf courses is Foursome Way.

Our street doesn't have a name, because it technically doesn't exist. Private road.
I was at the Town Dump (an eclectic little store that also does UPS shipping) on Monday and we were having the discussion of weird names. I always wanted to name our street. One of the gals in there lives on Foursome Way, and she said they playfully refer to it as Foreplay Way. That's when I came up with the name for my street......I told them we could call my street:

No. Foreplay Way !!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My mother in law cooks like that. One Thanksgiving (the last time she ever had dinner at her house....1991) she mashed 3 potatoes. She burned everything, always.

My mom wasn't an amazing cook (see, I didn't stand a chance!) but she did a lot of good old fashioned "family" stuff, meatloaf, homemade soups, casseroles.
Her best, though, is her lasagne. We beg for it. Takes her all day, she uses ricotta cheese and mozzerella, her own sauce.....Mmmmm.

I grew up eating roast beef and mashed potatoes....Dry overcooked roast beef. Even now - when my mom is making dinner when we visit - I ask how long she put the beef in for - and tell her to take it out 1/2-1 hour early.... It's not too bad then....Makes great mashed potatoes.... and absolutely tremendous fudge.....

Roast beef.....that is the one thing my mom always over-cooked, too. Now my dad and Jay have me do it.

I was the baker. I never really did like to cook, but I was always the one to make cakes, pies, fudge...maybe that's part of my weight problem right there! :p

I know ya'll are talking turkey...but I just gotta say;

I want my travel documents!!!!

Paid the dern bill and I'm gettin' ansy.

Guess I should go to work.......

I had signs made for our street years ago, to try to get the neighbors up the hill to slow down...
"Kids At Play" and 15 MPH Speed Limit (worked a little)....

I'm thinking I may just have to order that street sign. That will probably really slow everyone down!!:teeth:

NO KIDDING!

Jay met Jared and I at the pizza place last night. He walked in and said "I have a package that came for you in the truck"....I just about jumped over him to get to the truck. No Docs! Just an e-Bay item.
I saw both the FedEx guy and the UPS guy yesterday. I wanted to stop and make them search their trucks.

Darn...and now that I have to wait for the Administrator...I am probably tough out of luck..........

Well, surprise, surprise! And no, it wasn't Accidental!!

Still no documents...... maybe today..... the bill is paid... as long as they let me on the ship - I've decided I don't really care when I get them.....

It took me 20 minutes just to catch up and I need to get breakfast out for my kids...

Gary, I got the PM - thanks for the t-shirts! I hope I'm not bing a pain...

Judy, please feel better soon - pain stinks. Get rest and let someone else do the lifting (hope you have tht luxery).

Stacy - WHat happened when you called the Principal about Jordan's final? Either you left us in suspense or my speed reading stinks (both may be true).

I'm trying to keep up with the book list! Thanks for sending the titles! sugaswim, I may borrow Angels and Demons if you finish it.

I was looking at some pictures from last years' cruise. Megan's father-in-law took a picture of Pete and 2 of the groomsmen on the aft public area on Deck 7. I don't think I like the looks of the divider between it, and the verandah next door.
Now, not only can people look straight down at my verandah from Topsiders, but someone could stand at the divider and look across, without even leaning.
Guess I will just have to make sure that I'm not doing anything out there that calls for privacy.
