I don't know, but I think we had some of those seas on our Celebrity cruise last year. The swimming pool looked like a giant wave pool at a water park, and all the water excursions at Grand Cayman were cancelled. In fact, we were the only ship docking there since the weather had been so bad. Lots of bonine.

Stacey, it doesn't matter what you buy the girls. The t-shirts are secretly coded to shrink in the wash so that they all wind up looking like Britney shirts.

Garry, you need to see if you have my order, too! Did you guys decide on excursions yet?

Diana....that's why I don't put them in the dryer. (the t-shirts)

I'm with you guys.....over 20' I don't want to see....we saw enough of that last year!

Off for tonight...looks like the kids need a little motivating to get them selves to bed......

HAPPY TUESDAY MORNING TO ALL OF THE EAST COAST CRUISERS!!

Good night!
Stacey

WOW! Thanks for the great info you guys! I'm waiting for confirmation from Eli that they got my deposit. The Cruise Critic Board is GREAT!

GaRry, I'll resend my T-shirt PM. Changing it slightly. And I want it ahead of time...Less stuff for you to carry!

I'm almost done with excursions! Keith and I started packing...

I have 2 mega projects due this week...so here I go again...back to the salt mines.

HAPPY TUESDAY MORNING ALL CRUISERS!!!!!!!!!

GaRry, sent you a PM.

Ken, THANKS for the tip site! it's GRRRREAT!:wave2:

I've started packing too. What with cleaning up the house for the showings, I took all the stuff I had piled in the extra closet, and sorted it out and put it into the packing bags, then into a suitcase. I've also got a box ready to send to the in-laws with some of the things I've gotten them for the trip.

DD's play casting came out. It went the way I expected. Her teacher had said on Thursday that they were planning this play to be primarily for the 8th graders, but that they'd reward loyalty in the spring production and cast that primarily by talent. When you're talking middle school shows, the kids really expect that if they've done every show that they will get a big part their last year. I tried to warn DD about this all weekend, because she kept saying "Ms. Anderson said my audition was SPECTACULAR. You know that means I'm getting a big part, right?" She was fine with just being in the ensemble though, because that means that she gets to do County Chorus. If she had a lead, she couldn't miss 4-5 practices. The music teacher has already cleared this with the drama teacher, so more schedules to balance for Mom!

GaRry, we'd also like our shirts ahead of time. Once the order is set, let us know how much for the shirts and postage, and I'll send you a check. Thanks!!!

Still no joy on the computer at home. I'm going to have to take it into the shop, since it's beyond my feeble skills. So probably no chat this Friday.

Well, off to read the rest of the boards. Have a good Tuesday all. Lisa

:flower1: Good Morning Cruisers! :flower1:

Happy Tuesday!

Don't know the answer to what to call waves over 20', but I do know I don't think I want to see them!

Hope everyone has a great day today!

Off to read the boards and then to work!

Happy Tuesday Morning all! We have also started packing. As the weather is starting (finally!) to cool off here, we've moved some of our summer clothing over to the spare bedroom along with some items we've picked up at end of season sales.

Another question for some of our more seasoned cruisers: We ALWAYS overpack. This is probably due to the fact that we usually do the parks and the cruise, so the weather can be very unpredictable when changing regions so much. How do you pack for 5 days at the parks and 10 days on the cruise without overpacking? I want to avoid laundry on the cruise if I can, but not sure it's possible for this long of a trip.

One more question: I posted this on another thread, but nobody answered me, so I thought I would try asking here. Does anyone bring more formal gowns for the formal night? Normally I don't but I have this dress that would be just perfect for the holidays, so I'm trying to figure out how to pack it and then how to get it pressed before wearing it. Any thoughts?

Cheers, Kara

over packing is hard to avoid especially when you are doing the parks too.

Last time we did the parks for Christmas and then the New Years 7n cruise - the Parks were chilly and the cruise was very warm - so I was very glad I overpacked and stood firm with my husband who insisted there was no need for jackets and jeans!

This year we are doing SSR for 6n after the cruise in a one bedroom so I will have a w/d in the unit and plan to do my laundry there.

as far as formal night - last cruise was the New Years cruise and we had 3 formal nights - yes we did do gowns and tuxs for all 3 nights - for the guys it is easy - 1 tux - 3 shirts, vests and ties. As for us ladies now is a good time to buy gowns - everything is on sale! I brought 5 gowns - just in case - you know..... after 3 what is 2 more in the garment bag............. and one of our best memories was dancing to Frank Sinatra on the upper deck in formal attire on NYE............ the nights are warm - so keep that in mind - I had sleeveless gowns with either light jackets or a shawl/wrap.

and the the people who do full formal to suits/dress are about 40/40 and the other 20 where casual -

Good luck!

So GaRry we are on the same shift......I'm at work today as well.

I'll take my shirt when I see you in Florida. Thankyou.

I wouldn't be able to wear it beforehand, as it might spoil the surprise for the kids.

I'm hoping that DD hasn't figured it out. She keeps on talking about swimming with dolphins, plus going on a Disney cruise. Its almost an obsession.

She tells us she gets it from Disney commercials on TV.
( I never watch the kids channels.....do these commercials have dolphins in them )
Can a 10 year old pull the wool over your eyes? I'm sure hoping that this is going to be the biggest surprise ever.

Gus

I don't know, Afff. She might have an inkling. But if she doesn't, she's in for the surprise of a lifetime! It's like the time we did it, DD was watching the parade and kept saying "I wish we were there". And then, guess what? We were!

Therese, we are staying at OKW for three nights after the cruise, but are on the waiting list for SSR. Wanted to try it. We're going home on NYE, we've done it at the parks before. We can wait a few more years before doing that again. It's pretty cool, though.

Garry, that's so sad.

Gus-

She's just dreamin'. Went through the same thing with my DD (now 12), she thinks because we travel alot she gets to go everywhere and do everything! So, she thinks if she talks about it, I'll give in and book a trip there....................let's see, she wanted to do Aruba a couple of years ago because when we were in Maui, the gal next to me at the pool couldn't quit talking about it. So for her birthday 2 months later we were on a plane to Aruba. Then she wanted to go to Paris (it's the only place I want to visit in the world), so last year for Thanksgiving we got on a plane, went to Paris (and visited Disneyland Paris, of course).

She hasn't talked lately about anything new, I think she is too focused on our upcoming cruise and is planning out her schedule now.

Your kids are going to be so excited. I love doing things like that!!

Linda

Good Morning!

Kara....I have two formal (formal) gowns. I'm going to love having a chance to get all dressed up. Plus I have a ton of other dresses that could be formal....or semi-formal. I will definitely have more than I'll need....but it depends on Palo, Formal nights...we just don't know how many we'll need. The "boys" have tuxes.

On our longest Land/Sea, I had clothes sent out to be laundered on our last day at the parks. It was very expensive, but some of the best money I ever spent! Try to come up with a lot of mix and match stuff. If you need pants for the evenings at the parks, only take a couple...no one there will notice if you've worn them twice. And instead of a lot of long-sleeve shirts, layer the short sleeved (wear 2) and a light jacket.
On some of our really long trips, we take really old t-shirts and underwear, and throw them out as we go....you start off with a lot in your bags, but end up with less.....thus, more room to buy things!
Another thing we've done is worn old jeans when we needed to be warm, and then cut them off when we hit hotter climates.

Off and running....TTYL....

Sorry about the bad start to your day, GaRry.....you can send me our shirts....or you can make your bee-scaring son carry them for me!

Stacey

::space: I'M GOING TO ORLANDO.....I'M GOING TO ORLANDO....:space:

I have to go to Atlanta on October 28 for pre-convention meetings. So, I started checking airfares and found out that for only $57 more (which is the only portion I would pay) I could sneak in :smooth: to Orlando and then bop on over to Atlanta!

So, I am flying into Orlando on Tues. the 26 Oct and then leaving Thurs pm for Atlanta. Haven't told my DH or DD (shhh......it's a secret trip). Figure I can do some pre-cruise shopping since I am Disney deprived here in Utah.

Someone told me that there is an Disney outlet store somewhere in Orlando. Where is it at? Figure I'll go check out the bargains. Anyone else going to be visiting the area between the 26-28? If so, maybe we could hook up. It's not like I have to adhere to any particular schedule!

Okay, it's A/P today. I'll check back

Linda

I always take a formal gown, and something fancy for semi-formal night. This time, I have a green velvet halter topped formal (should be perfect for Christmas, but it's going to be hard to pack since it has a full skirt). For semi-formal, and other fancy meals, I have fancy black slacks and two fancy tops. One is pink sequins, and the other is bronze silk. DH and FIL are both going with black suits and taking different shirts/ties. MIL has a black beaded knee length dress for formal night and a black pantsuit with a gold top for semi-formal. I think the only time my MIL has been in a long dress is for her own wedding 52 years ago!

I plan on doing laundry a few times on the trip. We'll be in a studio at BWVs for 2 days, so I'll probably do all of our laundry before we leave there (it's not in the room, but I think it's free). Then I'll do it at least once on the cruise. Remember that lots of time will be spent in bathing suits. As long as you don't have family that throws the clothes in the laundry if it's been on their body for any time at all, they could probably get by with the same shirt/shorts for a couple of days. It will probably only be on them for 6-8 hours in those 2 days (breakfast, early am, and after mid-day swim before dinner). Even so, I expect we'll probably have a full garmet bag, 2-3 full suitcases, and a couple of duffle bags for the 4 of us. The inlaws will probably have a garmet bag, 2 suitcases and a carryon. That's a lot of luggage for our rental minivan!!! I think we'll be putting our feet on some suitcases for the trip to and from the port.

Dianna,

I agree, she may be just fishing for info - hoping and dreaming as kids do!

As for Disney surprize trips - we've done that too! The most "magicial one" was when our son was 7 yr old and starting to question "Santa" - well we booked a trip for Christmas and on Dec 19 around dinner time - there was a Santa in our yard - ho, hoing........ and then he rang the doorbell looking for Christopher.... he said it was VERY important that Chris recieved his gift early - as he was exceptionally good that year - So Sant sat with Chris at the table as Chris was just beyond words - Santa handed Chris his package - when Chris opened it inside were plane tickets for the family - and Disney information books - we were leaving the Next day for WDW!!!!

and from time to time around the holidays Chris will retell this story - of course to only adult ears - and then add his feelings - he was doubting Santa - but this really made Santa real and kept a child's version of Christmas alive in him - he Believed!!!

We went on to have a really magical vacation that year and discovered how wonderful it was to be in WDW for Christmas. We have since gone back a few times for the holidays and actually other family members have joined us.

As the kids grow older and the pace of life picks up it is one place that you can enjoy Magic and the company of your family away from the rat race...................

Looking forward to hearing about your DD reaction to this trip!!!

Happy Tuesday everyone!!

Well thanks to Jeanne its pouring here. Hopefully no tornadoes.
DD is home sick with a terrible cold.

Thanks to everyone's advice about the cruise critics boards we may be doing the Eli echo tour in Antigua. I want DH to look at the info tonight and will book tomorrow.

I am wondering if I will be able to fit into my formal dress, its a long glittery gold gown. Have at least 10 lbs to lose before I will even try it on. I may be doing last minute shopping for this cruise, depending on what I can fit into. Packing to me is a nightmare. I always over pack! Haven't started yet because I will need my suitcase for my Oct trip.

Linda, I will just miss you. I will be there Oct 21-24.

Gary, you can send our shirts, just let me know when to send you $$

Well I am off to battle the rain and run some errands. Have a great day.
