Dee - so nice to see you back! We've missed you! Thanks for the kind words on the newsletter. I enjoy doing them and glad you have enjoyed them as well.

Vicki - don't worry about Hershey - the meet kind of fell apart. Mark and I may still go but only in the weather cooperates.. At least Mark and I have gotten to meet you guys. Do you realize its been one year since we had lunch at Wildfire! Tell gaRry I pm'd him our shirt order (I had already posted it here but wanted to make sure he got it).

Everyone please say a prayer for all those on Grand Cayman - from the sounds of things they got hit really really hard! We really enjoyed our trip there on the Western last year.

Today should be the last day of summer vacation, again.

Today's chores include DS making a celebration dinner. He is cooking a prime rib. What a treat to come home from a tough day at work to a prime rib dinner. Just thinking about it makes the day so much better.

At the Children's Hospital Alumni dinner of Friday night they were saying one of their docs was very close to an AIDS vaccine. In fact, I want to say it has started in Phase 1 clinical trials. Morning everyone. Our internet completely flaked out Friday afternoon, so I've been offline all weekend. I think it's back from when DD downloaded all that junk in early July, but our juno was corrupted. I tried to uninstall so I could re-install and it just went POOF!!! And when I tried to call for help, they wanted $2 a minute!!!! All I wanted was a new install disk, but no way was I paying to ask for it! I've already fired off a nasty gram from the work computer this morning.

Denise, my DH loves to fish. I've looked around to see if there are any options in the regular ports and it just isn't very practical. Most of the standard excursions leave before we get into port. You usually don't do well in the mid-afternoon, so a 1/2 day afternoon excursion just isn't worth the money. At the 60 day mark, I am going to sign him up for the CC excursion. He did it on our Wonder 2003 cruise and had a great time. I'm debating over booking a second person for either my DS or my FIL, but I think DS won't leave the club, and I just don't think that Dad would be $110 worth of interested.

Sounds like no ones is going to Hershey? Is that right? Because remember I still have tickets if anyone does go. If not, I'll try to call Hershey and see if they'll let me credit them towards next year.

I'm so sorry to hear about Sophie. I'll keep the family in my prayers.

Well I'm off to catch up with everything I've missed all weekend.

There are many many AIDS vaccine candidates in Phase I trial. Most will fail. if you read this story I wrote from the conference, you will see where the field stands today (the story is aimed at physicians). You may have to refresh the page when it loads, sometimes it takes 2 tries to get DocGuide loaded.

Also, this story of mine shows why even a Phase I trial is nowhere near close to a vaccine. See my comment above about refreshing the page if it doesn't load.

I don't mean to sound nasty or discouraging. I'm just a geek. And I have a problem with the general media trumpeting Phase I trials as being "almost there." Phase I trials are meant, at most, to prove the vaccine or drug is safe and induces some reaction. Mostly they are just meant to prove it's safe. Most Phase I trials involve VERY small # of people. But given enough mis-information, you get reactions like the guy in ATL. And it burns me.

OK, so maybe I should have stayed away longer, huh? I'll be ducking the heavy objects you're all throwing at me now...

Am I still welcomed in these parts???

Dee, no hard objects being thrown here. You're right, to the general public, when they say "trials" we just think it's right around the corner. I'm a really big reader, and I used to read a lot of medical thrillers. It truly amazed me to learn how complicated getting new drugs to market is. I'm so glad there are people like you working in such a demanding field! And welcome back home.

GaRry, no Coffee in the firehouse???? Sounds like a fire to me! Got to find some of that go-juice!

I heard from Jo about St Lucia. We will definitely dock at port. She said if anyone has any questions about St Lucia, she'd be more than happy to help answer them.

Not much going on here. Heading in to work, but not rushing it today. Tomorrow I have to get in there early, and most likely stay all day....so taking it slow today.
All of the kids sports start this week, so I'm pacing myself! LOL
(Like I knock myself out, huh?)

GaRry does NOT answer his PM's...........or e-mails. Or maybe he is just ignoring me???????? HELLO GARRY..........I KEEP TRYING TO CONTACT YOU!!!!

Well....I do believe that I have all of my cruise clothing lined up. If I lose weight (ha) my clothes will just have to be baggy.
Lynda....only 3 lbs down....wouldn't worry about losing any money yet!
Now we have to get DD some clothes for the more formal nights. Think I'll put that one off for a while.
She's trying out for a dance troupe tonight, wish her luck! (Please do not say "break a leg!")

My Molly dog thinks she's a cat. She caught a rat outside last night. I think because we have new construction going on up the hill, we're getting all the displaced critters. Took 3 of us to get the rat away from her and dispose of it. Such fun.

We have a baby Gila Monster living here also. It obviously didn't stay with it's mother long enough to learn to swim. DH rescued it from the dog's swimming pool once, and Jordan rescued it from our pool once. She thought it was dying and wanted me to perform CPR on it. She said "Just press on its chest a little, get the water out" Sorry, but I draw the line with reptiles.
I took it's picture, maybe I'll put it in my online album. I know everyone would LOVE to see a baby Gila Monster. They are rare, you know........

Welcome back Dee - very interesting articles, I enjoyed reading them.

It looks like Grand Cayman got hit pretty hard. I know we are not going to GC (we were there in April and it is a nice little island) but I pulled up the website and things don't sound good. This is the link - http://www.caymanweather.com/. I have not seen any pictures yet but it sounds like they had a rough time. Okay, enough bummer news for the day. It's back to school night at the high school this evening, so I get to meet all of DD's teachers. She said the layout of the school was confusing so I had her give me explicit instructions. Classroom schedule for dummies: Leave room, take stairs in front of you to Tiger on wall, then turn left. Go down hallway past the poster on the wall and room is on the left hand side about 3 doors down. And so on. So hopefully I won't look confused.

Leilani-if you want pirate stuff, check out Oriental Trading on the web. They have (or have had) some great pirate stuff, in fact, there is a group on the PC cruise next May (including us) and we are talking about getting pirate accessories for DCL pirate night on the ship.
